I was watching TikTok videos on my phone while my 10 year-old nephew was silently watching TV. When he said, 'Meron pala talagang ganyan?!’ I looked at him curiously, wondering what had caught his attention. I then glanced at the TV and saw that he was watching a BL story.

I debated whether to discuss it with him or educate him on it. I also wondered what was going through his mind while watching the show.

The Enduring Power of Family Bonds

While writing my story, my heart overflowed with emotion, much like when I watched "Family Matters." The last film that stirred me so deeply was "Ang Tanging Yaman," a poignant reflection on the profound bonds of family.

"Family Matters" intricately portrays family gatherings where all members, despite occasional disagreements, maintain respect and civility towards each other.

This story has taught me about the cycle of life: from dependency in infancy to independence in youth, and eventually returning to a state of dependence in old age. It underscores the brevity of life but also the ample opportunity each day offers to create lasting memories.

Despite the inevitable pain our departure may cause loved ones, the cycle of life brings joy through new beginnings, such as the birth of a child. This duality mirrors the Christian promise of sorrow turned into joy, embodying the essence of familial love and the healing power of forgiveness.

In our get-togethers, my father insists that family time is sacred, intended solely for family members, reinforcing the significance of these bonds.

The movie "Family Matters" nostalgically reminds us that, despite living in a modern world, the simple pleasures of yesteryear remain the most fulfilling. Requests from older generations to set aside digital distractions highlight the importance of genuine connections, reiterating that love and harmony within a family pave the way to happiness.

No family is perfect, but cherishing each other, setting aside pride, and embracing forgiveness can lead to a harmonious and loving family dynamic. The film beautifully concludes with a life still centered around God and the love shared between siblings and their parents, even as they navigate their roles as parents themselves.

It's taught me that while material success can offer happiness, the presence and well-being of our family are irreplaceable. Thus, prioritizing family above all is a lesson deeply ingrained in my heart.

Last night, I still couldn't get over our conversation with my 5-year-old niece.

I went to 7/11 with my two nieces. I treated my high school niece to some food because she rarely visits us.

While we were looking for food, one of my nieces was also busy looking for what she wanted. She suddenly approached me and showed me what she had, saying, "Uncle, I want this!"

Me: I immediately responded that I don't have any money. (She had taken two lipstick-shaped candies worth 40 pesos. Tapos dalawa pa kinuha niya.) Ibalik mo yan.

Niece: No. I want this!😄

Me: Return them. Wala akong pera. Ikaw ipambabayad ko niyan.

Niece: No. I want this!😄

Me: I really don't have enough money with me right now. Kuha ka nalang ng iba.

Then she suddenly left the store with what she took.

Me: Hoy, bawal yan! 😂 Don't leave if you haven't paid for it.

Niece: But I want this!🥹

Me: sabe ko, I don't have any money!

I was surprised when she suddenly got angry and said to me,

Niece: You're working and yet you don't have money?!🤨

Then I thought aba di ako ready non ah 😅 hahahhahah

Me: kuha ka ng isa.

But she even insisted saying,

Niece: What about Breanna? Don't you love her?🥹 (Referring to her sister who was at home).

Ending, ang bata ay tuwang-tuwa because I bought what she wanted. 🫠🫠🫠

Today at the office: Yung Bisor namin may pinagawang report. We are searching for data from the years 2019 to 2023, a time period during which I was not yet employed at the company where I am currently working.

Brief conversation between my coworker and me.

Me: Wala daw mailalagay na data si Madamz sa 2019.

Partner:Tapos wala rin kayo Finance na clinic visit.

Me: Opo, wala rin daw sabe ni Madamz.

Partner: Di ko rin mahanap yung 2019.

Me: Siya rin, di niya mahanap. Wala siyang mahanap.

Partner: Sarili na lang hanapin natin🙂

Me: Paano natin hahanapin ang sarili natin, wala tayong GPs e! Baka mas maligaw tayo!

Partner: Soul Searching

Me: Walang GPS ang pang soul searching, pero may internal compass naman. Baka naman sa pag-ikot mo sa mundo, makahanap ka rin ng sarili mo.🙂

Searching for previous data like Sherlock Holmes, but with a lot more laughs and less success! Guess dull days are just another occupational hazard for us funny folks.

While scrolling through a social media platform, I stumbled upon a post asking, "When did you come to the realization na hindi lahat ng kadugo ay pamilya?"

Throughout my upbringing, I strongly believed that blood relations carried a stronger bond compared to any other connection. Nevertheless, as time has passed, I've realized that not all individuals we consider as family truly encompass the qualities that define a family. I now understand that a family's strength is not solely dependent on blood relations, but rather on the authentic love, support, and understanding that individuals offer one another

True family goes beyond mere blood ties. While being related by blood may create a sense of obligation and responsibility towards one another, it does not automatically guarantee genuine love, support, and understanding. These qualities are built through mutual respect, empathy, and selflessness.

Sometimes, blood relatives might feel threatened by your success and happiness because they may fear being overshadowed or fear losing their power and control over you. They may be fueled by envy, ego, or insecurity, which can hinder genuine family bonds.

Nonetheless, it is important to remember that not all blood relatives behave this way. There are countless families that exemplify the ideal notion of "blood is thicker than water" and truly embody the essence of genuine love, support, and understanding. These families are able to rise above personal differences, support one another's dreams and aspirations, and provide a safe space where individuals can grow and thrive.

It is also crucial to recognize and cherish the non-blood relatives who come into our lives and become our chosen family. These individuals may be friends, mentors, or even strangers who simply cross our paths at the right time. They are the ones who show us the true meaning of family by offering unconditional love, support, and understanding without the ties of blood.

Ultimately, it is about finding and cultivating relationships based on love, compassion, and mutual respect. Blood alone does not define family, but rather the genuine connections we forge with those who truly have our best interests at heart. So, let us not be limited by the notion of blood relations holding a stronger bond, but let us create and embrace the concept of a chosen family that fulfills the true essence of what a family should be.

📍Redemptorist Parish Curch, Cebu City

Recently attended the final mass of 2023 and had several profound insights during the service led by a foreign priest. the importance of caring for and loving our aging fathers. It is crucial to exhibit patience and kindness towards them while they are still with us.

Secondly, parents should allow their children to make choices and follow God's will. Children are gifts from God, and we are entrusted with the responsibility to raise and prepare them for His purpose.

This reminded me of the experiences of Mary and Joseph when they temporarily lost Jesus as a child.

Lastly, I grasped the significance of forgiveness, particularly within the context of family relationships. Forgiving and letting go of grudges can lead to a more harmonious and joyful start to the new year.

These realizations have left a profound impact on me and will contribute to a lighter and more meaningful beginning of the upcoming year.

May the year 2024 bring us hope and may God shower us with even more blessings for a prosperous and productive future.

At 10 PM, I found myself in my sister's room, engaging in a casual conversation. Suddenly, our peaceful moment was shattered by our mother's frantic search for the emergency phone. She urgently informed us about a nearby crisis unfolding. As medical professionals, me and my sibling immediately felt the weight of our duty to assist and save others, even in situations that exceeded our professional obligations.

The incident involved two groups of teenagers engrossed in a fervent argument, which tragically escalated to a stabbing. Swiftly, we rushed the injured individual to the emergency room, fully realizing in that moment why our parents had consistently warned us as children to avoid being out late or staying outside. The world beyond our walls could be a treacherous place, inhabited by individuals who were both unpredictable and impulsive.

Each time I visit, it’s always been a heartwarming experience, as I have had the pleasure of going with my family. However, this time was different, as I took the wheel and drove early in the morning.

Located a few hours away from the bustling city, the journey towards this enchanting place proved to be worthwhile. As I stepped inside the monastery, I was instantly captivated by a wall adorned with wheelchairs and various medical equipment. These items were generously donated by individuals who had once suffered from ailments but were miraculously cured. It filled me with immense awe and hope.

Moreover, the adjacent wall was adorned with countless letters and petitions expressing gratitude for their granted wishes. It was truly heartwarming to witness the power of faith and witness the tangible impact it had on people’s lives. It reminded me of the boundless blessings we receive when we offer our sincerest prayers and never lose hope.

The Monastery Church in Sibonga Simala embodies a beacon of faith, healing, and gratitude. It serves as a testament to the power of spiritual devotion and the personal miracles that can occur when we put our utmost trust in something greater than ourselves. May this sacred place continue to inspire and uplift the hearts of all those who journey through its hallowed halls. 🌟🙏
