i've been rereading guardians of ga'hoole and i rewatched the movie and i ended up making a couple ocs!! i actually first created poppy when i was like,, ten years old? around there anyway. that drawing will be under the read-more asdjhsdkfj
anyway these are nectar and poppy!! they both live at the great ga'hoole tree. nectar is a bookbinder but he'll also read to the owlets and make little origami for them. poppy is a guardian, at this moment of time i'm not sure what chaw she's in yet. i love them <3
[id: two drawing references of different guardian of ga'hoole ocs. the first is of nectar, a stylized sooty owl. he's black with a white face, "pants," tail, and part of his wings; on his face, he has a black mask around his eyes, and there are distinctive flecks of black on his left cheek that break into the white. he has a starry pattern on his back and a little bit on the underside of his wings. he wears a string of stems around his chest that blossom with little blue flowers, and one of the flowers adorns his head. the main drawing is a view of him simply standing with one wing stretched out, with the text, "Nectar the sooty owl. he/him". more text reads, "*flowers required!*" there's another drawing from a side view with his wing and flowers omitted, showing off the pattern on his back, with the text, "wings and flowers omitted". there is also drawing of the top view of one wing, with the text, "top".
the second is of poppy, a stylized tawny owl. she is striped light brown and orange, with a white "mustache" and white, feathery brows. there is a band of dark brown around her neck, and flecks of dark brown tipped with white on her chest. her legs are white. the underside of her wings are brown-and-white, while the topside is brown with white-tipped feathers. at the elbow of her left wing, she has some claw scars. the two main drawings are of her simply standing; the second of the two is of her in her guardian helmet and battle claws, which are gray striped with yellow. the text at the top left says, "Poppy the tawny owl. she/them", and at the bottom says, "*only wears armor on missions". there is a headshot drawing of the back of her head, which is all dark brown, and one showing off the topside and underside of her wings. there is text indicating which is the topside and which is the underside, and which is left and right. end id]

poppy watches
[id: a photograph of a child's drawing of an owl, drawn in a notebook. it's staring directly at the viewer. there aren't any details that would indicate what species it is. there are two lines on the right wing that seem to be scars. there is writing at the top that reads, "MY Legend of the Guardians" and, just below that, "Poppy". end id]

Sketching in Zbrush cuz I want to try and do more concept stuff in 3D instead of anxiously drawing for like an hour

i've finished reading all the guardians of ga'hoole books (spinoff series not included. maybe i'll read those at some point) and didn't realize i got too used to it and now i'm bored of not having more "kinda anthropomorphic animals but not to a furry extent doing things that definitely couldn't get an exactly accurate animated adaptation and still be considered to be for children" content
i've been vaguely aware of wings of fire for a while, and while i don't know how similar it is to GoG, the animations, animatics, and whatever else on youtube are very cool and i wanna know more
also i don't really have money to buy things like books at the moment so uhh... 🏴☠️ time i guess

Digger is such an underappreciated character
and the movie puts the poor owl to shame. Here’s a quote from the third book describing him;
“Digger was a very odd owl in every sense of the word. For starters, he lived his entire life - until he was orphaned - not in a tree but a burrow. With his long, strong, featherless legs, he had preferred walking to flying when Soren Gylfie and Twilight first met him. He had planned to walk all the way across the desert in search of his parents until moral danger intervened and the three owls convinced him otherwise. Nervous and high-strung, Digger worried a lot but, at the same time, this owl was a very deep thinker. He was always asking the strangest questions. Boron said that Digger possessed what he called a “philosophical turn of mind.”
Stop sleeping on my baby boy Digger man
