an encounter

Gas station

mel was at a gas station the nearest one to her house, in her usual sad lookimg attire, getting some snacks, specifically fruit snacks. As she went to check out the girl infront of her was short three dollars and couldnt afford a packof cigarettes and a lighter. Mel has money saved up, with nothing to spend it on, so of course, she butted into the angry conversation to loan this girl some money, alex introduced herself and thanked mel over and over again, and invited her on her journey to, nowhere. Mel agreed, she has nothing better to do.

Meijer

Mel stopped at meijer for a new blanket, hers has gotten so worn down. She thought she should make the trip worth while and went to the isle with chips. She saw a girl staring at the tortilla chips. Mel looked over and so did Alex, alex starts rambling about the different flavors of tortilla chips, mel was interested, she doesnt have many friends so any social interaction makes her happy.

Broke down

Mel was driving down the road when her car started making the cliche car breaking down noise, she pulled over and started sobbing, everything seemed to be going wrong that day. Then after about 10 minutes, a station wagon pulls up behind her, and out comes alex, mels childhood best friend. No way its her, then she walks up closer and recognizes mel.

Yes. I have a mother, father, and their mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, cousins, and uncles, and everyone in between. We dont talk much

I dont, well, kinda, sometimes i work for my mom, but thats rare.

I love the book its kind of a funny story and a tale for the time being. Its kind of a funny story is about a boy who checked himself into a psych ward after suicidal idealation. And a tale for the time being just makes me think about things.

I love all types of music, besides country, it is just god awful, there is nothing that makes me feel even worse,

I like to dance alone, i dont like to dance in a crowd. If the person is lucky, maybe ill dance infront of them.

I can make myself cry on command, its my party trick.

Feeling Blue

Sailors would fly a blue flag if someone was lost on the voyage, that is where the origin is believed to stem from

Depressed or sad is what feeling blue means.

If someone hasnt heard the term before, i think they would think feeling blue means feeling Sick or cold

Where feeling blue is believed to first be used. John James Audubon ("The Birds of America") wrote in his journal in 1827 that he had the blues.

I chose these shapes and lines because they seemed the most interesting to me. I kept in mind that I would be using these lines and shapes to inspire pieces of furniture.

Line Studies

I believe these are my most sucessful combinations of letters because of the contrast. I believe the last one and the fourth are my strongest because of the way the letters interact with each other. The fourth one looks like a claw machine and the last one looks like a person with a cape on. I believe symbolism in this assignment was important although it wasnt specifically listed. Turning letters into things that can look like ather things with a little bit of thinking or looking is interesting to look at and an interesting concept. I also believe that the way that the ‘X’ and ‘O’ interacted in the third is interesting. The placement compliments the structure in each letter.

This is my 4x4 piece. I chose to do all Sans font because of the notches that seem to appear on most of the variations. I also appreciate the subtle details that sans had to offer such as the web connecting the top of the T to the ends. This mini project was a lot of fun. lots of trial and error but I like the final outcome and how colorful it is. In this piece I used graphite, Ink, Chalk, highlighters, and markers for a spunky take. I scanned the final piece in black and white to fit the guidlines but the original is in color because i wanted to get some different variations of grey for the look i was going for

this is my second experimental piece. i played with contrast and sizing of my letters. although the directions said to do whatever you want dont follow previous directions, i stuck with the black and white because it reminded me of yinyang. i left my other experimental piece up although i interpreted it wrong because thats what art is about, trial and error.

These are my rubbings from out in the real world. This was a challenge. All of the paper i had was too thick to get a nice rubbing but eventually I found a paper that worked.

This is my experimental piece. At a glance it looks like a bunch of trash on a page but theres meaning to it. This is my day on paper, I went to the bookstore, doodled a girl I saw waiting for class to start, a might I say, absolutely tasty part of my fruit punch bottle, a part of a granola bar wrapper I was eating while doing my lettering so I made it look like an ‘A’, and finally, the wrapper from this orange flavored water my friend gave me. This is my day at a glance.

This is my first sketch for lettering, I just went crazy with some of my favotite personal fonts, and also tried new ones. For some of the fonts such as “free you��� I chose a quote that went with the text. This page is full of everything fron small ‘squished’ text to thick bubble letters.
