I recently remade the PPG intro with my AU’s version, and it shares their backstory and such- video here if you wanna see it, totally don’t have to though- AND NOW IM CURIOUS.

HOW DID UR TURTLES COME TO EXISTENCE? Same for April and Casey? Ik you said Casey was experimented on by his dad- if I remember correctly- and I lowk want you to expand more on it bc I rlly love ur au !!

It's a little murky in certain places to be honest, because there are a lot of things that I feel don't necessarily add up or I haven't yet come up with a reason for why these things happened, etc. So I hope this can make some sense-?? Lmao

Hamato Yoshi / Master Splinter:

So one of my favorite aspects of this AU is that Tang Shen is ✨ alive ✨ ! So for Splinter's backstory, he was working alongside Saki in this mega corporation (That I'm unsure what they do, but I think that makes it more ominous and semi realistic- Lmao), and through some kind of betrayal or disagreement (I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Splinter was trying to push some Hamato bullshit on Saki and their shared company, because even though I love 2012 Splinter, he needed to see the bigger picture of that conflict imo-) they parted ways and Splinter lost a lot of his shares and what have you from their company. Which is most likely illegal, but of course Saki wouldn't care about that- Lmao || He ends up loosing Tang Shen via divorce because of this whole situation, with her taking Miwa with her and living on their own. He was struggling finding work elsewhere, so he basically ends up getting demoted to a factory worker within their company (Or rather solely Saki's company now-). Splinter also grows incredibly skeptical of where he's working, considering their handling mutagen ("Chemical X"), a substance he's never heard of until now- Not to mention some of his coworkers looking rather odd / uncanny (AKA they're Kraang-).

Because Saki holds some form of resentment towards Splinter still and basically gets joy out of ruining his life at this point, Saki was the one who deliberately caused Splinter's mutation but claimed it was a "work place accident". Hence how Splinter became a mutant rat man. So Splinter loses his relationship with his brother, his wife and daughter, both his jobs- Like, he's really going through it at the beginning of the story,, 😭

The Turtles:

Similar to canon, Splinter got the turtles originally as pets ! He technically still had enough money to remain in his home for a decent amount of time, and it wasn't as though he intended on staying unemployed forever, so he thought it wouldn't hurt to get something to lift his spirits / keep him going, you know? He still technically talks to Tang Shen from time to time, cause they still care about each other, but he admits it's hard being alone,, Literally minutes after Splinter gets these Turtles from the pet store, Shredder's informs tell him almost instantaneously bro- LMAO || So Shredder, most likely through Baxter Stockman, creates a very unique kind of mutagen so that he can turn those turtles into vicious creatures that will take Splinter out. This man is obsessed, okay- 💀 / But despite the fact that this mutagen was meant to make the turtles "evil" (more or less), it just gives them new forms and consciousness / autonomy ! They are very dangerous as far as what they're capable of, but their nature is inherently wholesome and kind !

I imagine Shredder sent some low level Foot soldiers to sneak into his home, pour the mutagen on the baby turtles, and leave, you know?

And also similarly to canon, Splinter gets a lot of time with the Turtles before the main events of the story begin ! So he has nearly a decade to form strong personal attachments with his new sons- 🫶 / He homeschooled them, taught them ninjitsu, catered to their interests (i.e. Always getting a variety of ingredients and cooking meals with Mikey despite him probably not being the most experienced chef, buying lots of tools and going dumpster diving with Donnie for spare parts, etc.), spend holidays with them, all kinds of stuff ! He struggled with helping them control their powers from time to time, but he was making an effort-! But the one rule Splinter had was that they couldn't leave the house ever,, Like EVER ever. That was until "Townsville" got attacked by it's first real monster in years- By this point in the story, the turtles are like 12-13 btw ! Splinter tried to handle the situation himself to save his children, but he got overwhelmed, and right before he was going to get taken out his sons came to save him !

Of course, the people were a bit scared and confused, but once Mayor O'Neil spoke up and applauded the Turtles it was all good ! Lmao / After that, the Turtles got employed by Mayor O'Neil to protect the city and the rest was history !

April:

With April, I actually had Mrs. O'Neil be experimented on during her pregnancy- But the wild part is that she consented to it- LMAO / I wanted to reimagine Mrs. O'Neil as a woman who is very entrepreneurial, who owns a research company, and has her hands in many pots. I honestly want her and Saki to have some kind of partnership via the mutagen. From what we see of Mrs. O'Neil in canon, she comes off like she could be comparable to 2003 Bishop or MM Cynthia Utrom had they wanted to go that route with her character- You know what I mean? But with April, she flew too close to the Sun and it cost her her life,, Kirby begged her to stop, to not use herself as the test run for something like that, to not put their daughter in danger like this,, But she didn't listen at all. That's honestly why Kirby is even the mayor at all- His wife was Mayor before she passed away,, 😭

This is why Kirby was so overbearingly protective of April and refused to tell her the truth about her mother and how she came to be,, He doesn't want April to question her existence, so view herself as some "failed experiment", so resent her Mother for making this choice, you know? For the most part, April is compliant and understanding of her Father's avoidance about her creation, but eventually she'll press the issue-

Also because of Saki's connections to the O'Neil family, I can see he being a prominent figure in April's life prior to meeting Splinter and the Turtles- 👀

Casey:

Just like I mentioned before, Casey was a normal human boy until his Father gave him away to Saki's company to be experimented on in exchange for money. 💀

Casey's parents are divorced, his Father is a good for nothing and can barely keep their household in livable conditions- So needless to say, he took up the opportunity to get a lot of cash quickly. He neglected Casey heavily before this happened, with Casey constantly trying to form a relationship with his Father but his Father being the one that made that difficult. Despite it all, Casey still loved him,, So it was heartbreaking for him when he got taken away like that. His mind, in an attempt to protect himself, made himself believe he was kidnapped and that his Father tried to save him,, So when he finally got better control over his new powers, he escaped and went home believing his Father would be happy to see him. He wasn't. He called him a freak and told him that he wasn't his son- Not anymore. Again, in an effort to protect himself, Casey's brain made him believe that his Father just needed space and that he would just try again later. He would visit his little sister often in secret, who was very loving and would treat him exactly the same- 🥺 / After a few years of toughing it out on his own, Casey gets spotted by April from within a limousine using his powers, and she asks to be friends ! It didn't take long for her to beg her Father to let Casey stay with them, and after a few bumps on the road here and there, Kirby ended up caring for Casey almost as much as April !

Much later into the story, I do have Casey fully accept that his Father is a piece of shit, and it really hurts him,, 🥲

This video is one of my favorite things to be honest, because I truly feel like 2012 Raph's relationships with April and Casey should have been a lot more complex given Raph's original distain (Or at the very least distaste-) for humans- Like?? 🗣️

And as a byproduct of that, it should have made his relationships with April and Casey (As the series progressed-) frankly way more impactful / significant than the rest of his brothers, considering where Raph started from with them and how long it took him to form such a strong bond and trust with those two- You know what I mean?

I'm sorry, but I will forever dislike canon 2012 Raph and Casey's friendship dynamic because of how it was handled by the writers- Why are their best moments so few and in between?? They get like one or two genuinely good moments per Season almost. Not to mention the fact that his friendship with April also feels pretty nonexistent aside from a handful of moments too- 💀 Lmao

First of all, I've seen your PPG AU and I LOVED IT / STILL LOVE IT !! I love the way you took the Powerpuff Girls intro dialogue but made it about the Turtles in the caption, I love that you made April akin to Ms. Bellum (Especially in the way that you can't see her face-), I love that Hamato Yoshi is Professor Utonium, I love the brothers' gear / dispositions in the way that you drew them since They already reflect their personalities really well- I LOVE IT ALL !!

It also makes me geek out a lot because I feel like the Powerpuff Girls are such an underrated franchise sometimes- PPG was my shit back in the day, And I feel like it isn't appreciated enough within the nostalgic Cartoon Network roster of shows (But maybe that's just me?? I don't know- I kind of say the same thing about, "Ed, Edd, and Eddy" even though I didn't watch that show until years after it already ended- 💀 LMAO),, 😭🫶✨

I'll try not to be too lengthy about the lore of my 2012 + PPG AU, But to try and simplify it as much as possible: Donnie meets Casey and April at the exact same time his Brothers do ! So it wasn't like Donnie met him first or independently or anything like that- I try to play into the narrative of the PPG Movie a bit with the backstory of The Brothers and how they came to be these heroes of "Townsville" (I want to call it something else, but I don't know what yet and I don't want to just say, "New York City" because that's kind of lame / unoriginal for an AU that has so much whimsy- Lmao), So that basically means that they got their acceptance and notoriety in the same way that the Mutant Mayhem brothers did basically- But the reason I bring this up is because April and Casey were essentially their own independent duo before joining the brothers as a group and becoming their own team, And they weren't the fondest of the Brothers at first,, Not necessarily that they had anything against them, but I also feel like you couldn't really blame Casey and April since their first impression with the Brothers carried this air of, "Don't you know who we are? We're THE mutant super heroes of 'Townsville'-". It's especially funny to me in the context of April as well, considering it was HER Father (The Mayor of "Townsville"-) that even distinguished the Brothers as the heroes of the city in the first place, like, "Yes, she's aware of who you are-". 💀 LMAO

I personally don't see Casey having any kind of dislike towards Donnie or any kind of rivalry with him at all ! He just doesn't like it when Donnie makes his best friend (April) uncomfortable, which is the main reason why he gets a little combative with Donnie from time to time. Also, for a little bit of context, Casey lives with April ! This is another AU where I depict Casey's father as a terrible person and honestly just a piece of shit, as well as the sole reason why Casey is even a mutant super powered individual at all. He essentially gave Casey away to be experimented on in exchange for financial security, and when Casey inevitably ran away and assumed his family would be happy to see him again, his dad just called him a freak- 😭 YOU DID THIS TO YOUR CHILD, LIKE WHAT THE HELL DUDE. (As yell as if I didn't have complete control over this narrative- Lmao). Because of these unfortunate circumstances and because April wasn't allowed to have "normal friends" considering she's also a mutant child with superpowers, it seemed like a no-brainer that she'd want Casey to stay around in her life ! He's pretty much the only friend she'll ever have (At least, That was her perspective until the Brothers came into the picture-), you know? So needless to say, those two are very attached to one another and are very protective of one another-! (Platonic 2012 Capril forever- 🫶✨)

As far as the Jonatello aspect of all this (Which by the way, I do have them be around 7th to 8th grade age wise ! I thought it would be a good in between with Powerpuff Girls being kindergartners to first graders and The 2012 cast being High Schoolers- 👍✨), I definitely have Casey catch feelings for Donnie first ! Personally, I envisioned Casey having one prominent moment with Donnie that sparked the affection, for example them genuinely teaming up for the first time during a high stake situation / battle ! He becomes enamored by Donnie's intelligence and quick thinking, which sets him on a path of wanting to learn more about Donnie ! At first he thought it was just normal admiration of someone he knew doing something really cool (in his opinion), but as they grew closer and hung out more and more, It became increasingly obvious that Casey felt very different in Donnie's presence compared to other people- He also noticed he was a lot more emotionally turbulent when Donnie was in involved, like when Donnie would try and force conversations between him and April and April would use Casey as a means of avoiding the situation-! At first he thought he was just annoyed as usual at Donnie making his best friend feel uncomfortable, but it didn't take long to realize his annoyance came from another place as well, that being Donnie giving April the kind of attention Casey wished he would give him instead- He never really takes any of this out on April or makes it seem like she's some kind of "problem" though ! It's just little shifts in Casey's perspective like that that make his new found feelings all the more apparent- 😭👍✨

I have Donnie be completely dense and oblivious to Casey's crush on him for a lengthy amount of time- LMAO

But what makes it funnier to me is that Donnie feels the exact same way and this isn't a scenario where he hasn't considered Casey as an option or something like that- Donnie's just going through that iconic "character doesn't realize the person that they're crushing on has a crush on them back" trope- I will say however, that Donnie's crush on Casey definitely came a lot later than Casey's crush on Donnie (Hence there still being times for Donnie over steps with April-), so that also contributes to the obliviousness,, Lmao || As far as Donnie's concerned, I feel as though his brothers would definitely have to play a big part in him realizing his feelings for Casey- Such as Mikey stating the obvious during moments where Casey was very clearly trying to form a connection with him or Leo and Raph "joking" about Casey flirting with him sometimes- You know what I mean? Then at some point, Donnie just took a day to fully sit with these thoughts and ultimately came to the conclusion that he likes Casey after all and his feelings for April just kind of naturally dissipate afterwards-!

I feel like this was a negative and a positive for his Brothers- Because on one hand, he's not talking about April anymore, which is great (Especially considering they all notice how uncomfortable April looked at times- 💀) ! But on the other hand, now he won't shut up about Casey and it's their problem- LMAO / April "suffers" as well, because Casey will also have times where he'll bring up Donnie and million times in a conversation, but it's less annoying to her because she thinks it's really cute ! ✨

As far as I'm actually getting together, I'm kind of torn about how I want to go about that- One one hand, I really like the idea of them just being a cute pairing and the way that they confess their feelings to one another is really wholesome and sweet ! It also gives me the opportunity to draw Splinter and Kirby respectively being protective parents (More like "parent" As far as Kirby and Casey goes, since I do have Kirby and April acknowledge that Casey is not adopted by them / legally a part of their family like that- But Casey does look up to and respect Kirby as a parental figure in his life !) and saying things like, "You two need to slow down !! 🗣️" even though they're just holding hands or something- LMAO || But I also like this weird energy surrounding those two getting into a romantic relationship, similar to how it was complicated for Finn and Flame Princess to be together in, "Adventure Time" ! Something about too strong of emotions being difficult for them to handle considering their superpowers and whatnot, you know what I mean? But knowing them, they most likely will cross that line anyway- 😭
