Hello friends who nest!
Whether you're kin, a regressor, or miscecanis, you might be affected by what I call the nesting season, and want to nest all the time! 🪹
So I decided to make a little post about stuff I like in my nest to maybe give some of you ideas or just some comfiness reading it, because nesting is taking up like 80% of my brain right now- 💚
My essentials are: 🪹 Blankets (the fluffier the better) 🪹 Plenty of pillows 🪹 A tons of plushies 🪹 Orange essential oil on the stuffs 🪹 A cedar or orange candle/incense 🪹 A cosy drink (like coffee with some cinnamon) 🪹 A cosy show or podcast 🪹 Some snacks! (nuts for my crow brain, sweet things for the omega cravings, and sometimes some other stuff personally)
I also like to kidnap my partner in it, but that's not always possible 🥺😞 Please feel free to add on with your nesting essentials! ☕️
Happy nesting friends! 💚🪹

how to be a wolf in a human body
sing. it doesn't matter if you can't carry a tune to save your life. you can hum. you can mumble along to your favorite songs in the shower. you can sing Phantom of the Opera or Nirvana or Miley Cyrus. it doesn't matter. just sing.
experience nature. this can mean going for a walk, or it can mean just watering the cactus sitting on your windowsill. it can even mean watching a nature program on tv or looking at the stars through a telescope.
be in touch with the cycle of the moon. it doesn't have to be spiritual (but it can be if you want it to be!). take some time to just experience the moonlight. say a prayer. sing a song. memorize the names of each full moon.
reach out to your fellow wolves. wolves are social creatures. they need family, friends. if you have no one in "real life" to talk to, there are countless wolves online.
present yourself in a way that honors your wolf heritage. that could mean wearing earth tones. it could mean crystal necklaces. it could mean black nail polish or color contacts. you'll feel better. i promise.
If you can think of more, feel free to add!

y'all, my pack is the best pack in the world. only three of us are active within the pack most of the time but I love them so much. shout out to my pack mates who are the most understanding and supportive, you know who you are! one day we'll get a floor nest to cuddle up on and a pack den to live in, looking forward to that day

Been talkin on my discord server with some friends about a DC A/B/O au. But like, Gotham just says fuck gender.
Like they just straight up are mixtures of dynamics or change, depending on their mood, because there's so much chemicals everywhere along with so many curses in Gotham. Like they are straight up messed up down to a biological state. There is a reason that no one wants to go to Gotham and why they leave them alone for the most part. Like people even moving there eventually start to lose their dynamic or starts shifting as well, and it freaks people out.
Not to mention that Gotham horrifies those that believe they should still follow 'traditional' norms. Omegas are often far more violent and larger than the alphas, bettas egg on others instead of calming them. Or at least that's what Outsiders always see.

Actually, I’m going to give MORE nonromantic wolf traits to werewolves
Werewolf bf won’t hold your hand in the winter because he’s obsessively walking in your footprints for snow-walking efficiency and so no one will know how many “wolves” are in the pack
Werewolf bf will eat anything past the expiration date because it hasn’t technically actually gone bad yet, don’t worry about it. He’ll get rid of it if it’s stinking and rotten.
Werewolf bf has really sweaty palms and feet because of wolf musk glands in wolf paws
Werewolf bf has stashes of food all over the house and buried in the snow during the winter (cache behavior), even sometimes with food that HAS TO BE REFRIGERATED, BRIAN, PUT THE GROUND BEEF BACK IN THE FRIDGE
Werewolf bf buys way more food than you need, and does it infrequently because “it’ll feed us for a while.” If you can find his caches. And if they’re still good by the time you find them. He’ll eat it if it’s not though.
Werewolf bf circulates through like 4-5 different grocery stores across a 50 mile radius to approximate a large hunting range. Which is fine, but except grocery shopping could take him anywhere from 30 minutes to three hours, depending on which one he picks.

in honor of my backache from sleeping in my nest on the floor last night (a hardwood floor covered with a sheepskin and a throw blanket) i wanna talk about nest mattresses! in real life and worldbuilding. disclaimer that my knowledge comes from mostly online so it’s probably not completely accurate.
so! cool floor beds i found that would make good nest bases.
the type of bed i could find the most on online is the Japanese futon. it’s what the western futon/sofa bed was originally modeled after but it’s very different. it’s basically a very thin mattress (shikifuton) over tatami mats (rush grass outer layer with a foam or rice straw core). both parts are much more moveable than a western style mattress. another important consideration i think is relevant is that futon covers go all the way around the mattress and can be washed (unlike western sheets which leave the bottom of the mattress uncovered which if it’s on the floor can get gross). futons are also meant to be aired out in the sun, which helps the whole dust thing.

another cool bed type i found are montessori-style house beds. they’re typically used for young children (toddlers and preschoolers) but do come in larger sizes (the biggest i’ve seen is a full). the bed frame sits directly on the floor with a thin mattress and a wooden house-shape on top that can support a canopy/curtains (which would be super cool for a nest lets be real). some also come with bed rails and bumpers so little kids don’t fall out, which i think would also be good for a nest because it’s more cozy.

of course i must mention the “human dog beds” which gained popularity in 2022 from going on shark tank but i remember first hearing about them around 2015-ish (and of course going that would make a great nest!). it is what it sounds like.

another, probably the cheapest option here, is camping mattresses. you know what these are. super thin air mattresses with foam tops. some come in double width (better for a nest imo) but most of them are made of that terrible slippery fabric (good for camping, bad for everything else). this might not be a problem for most people but i’m autistic and i gag touching them. you could cover it with a rug or blanket but those might slip off of it due to the gross slipperiness of the fabric. idk.

the last thing i can think of are traditional mattresses that are just. thin. you could use a mattress topper but a real mattress would definitely feel better even if they’re the same height because real mattresses have a comfort layer and a base layer and a topper only has the comfort layer (=more back pain for you). consider: dorm mattresses (at least my dorm had them, and it made an amazing nest), rv mattresses, and trundle mattresses. they’re all basically the same thing just different keywords (and slightly different sizes for the rvs). my sister has slept on a 4 inch mattress for six years or so and she only occasionally complains of back pain but for occasional use it would be fine (she also has scoliosis so. could be that).

now for some quick worldbuilding notes:
i definitely think that in an omegaverse society nest mattresses would be common. i think they would mimic traditional mattresses but shorter, like rv mattresses, but have an all-around washable cover/sheets to protect from floor grossness, sort of like dorm mattresses but able to be washed more easily. i also think they would come in more square or round shapes instead of the typical rectangle twin shape. i can see them having folding capabilities like some rv mattresses do, so that people could sun them like futons to get rid of dust mites.
i can also see nest frames being a thing, sort of like the montessori bedframes, with pillow bumpers to make a more enclosed vibe. i can also see a huge market for both frame-mounted or ceiling-mounted canopies, because who doesn’t want that.
maybe houses would be built with specific nest areas in mind, maybe with softer floors like tatami vibes or carpet. i’ve heard talk about conversation pits which are absolutely so cool but i can also see the advantage in an elevated nest space. my favorite nest of all time was in a ceiling cabinet because i could see the whole room but was harder to see myself, which made me feel really safe. so maybe houses might be built with raised nest platforms, or even small ceiling lofts overlooking a larger room (i couldn’t find an exact picture of what i’m thinking but this is close:)

my fellow wolves, ive got a couple game recommendations for you. you may have heard of one or both before but if youre looking for wolf oriented games these two are my favourites.
WolfQuest. it's 20$ on steam but in my opinion its so worth it. its a more natural exploration of wolves. it's set in yellowstone and the team have done an amazing job at creating a variety of pelts and making the landscape match that of the real park. (enough so that ive had a few tearful moments when i recognize certain areas.) the game has accurate body language and you communicate with your pack through a mix of vocalizations and non-verbal queues. theres also an online function where you can play with friends (or maybe you have a pack of fellow wolves you want to play with.) the game is still being developed but the main questline is as follows: - find a mate - successfully bond with them - create and maintain a strong territory - find a den - raise your pups, protect them from predators, and feed them until theyre too big for the den - bring them to a safe area so they can get larger, continue feeding and protecting them - once their large enough you can make them their own playable wolves and extend your bloodline unfortunately as far as i know your pups will not grow in the normal questline, and you wont be able to have a pack of adult wolves, but i hope that comes in the future!
WolvDen. if youve ever played flight rising its that but with wolves. its in the style of a pet collecting game, and theres a large variety of different markings, pelts, eyes, etc to try and breed for. theres some more mythical aspects to the game, and it isnt as faithful to true wolf culture (far more of a human twist to it) but its still lovely to have a pack to take care of. unfortunately there is a mortality function in this game unlike most pet-sites. your wolves age each day you log in and they will grow old and die. there is a way to catalog your dead wolves, though, and it allows you to see them, dress them, etc but you cannot feed/play with them. the game is only three years old and much of the monthly events and features are still being worked on and added but i made an account the day it first opened and i think its been a lovely game. :) (also if you happen to play, my username is nightfurypizza #5665, hmu :3 im not the best at giving advice as i go on long hiatuses from the game and never fully began to understand the more in depth breeding systems and rarities but if you howl at me i'll try to help. check out the grouse house on-site aswell, and the help section, both give a lot of information)
