Just finished reading dungeon meshi (spoilers ahead)
My favorite part about the tail end of the story is how even though they were setting up a situation for it, they didn't do the misogynistic "oh no our female lead with noble intentions is now going mad with power, we have to kill her to save herself from her ambitions" trope because I was holding my breath thinking the party was gonna Daenerys Targaryen her ass
Instead, they do everything they can to save her, and not once does the story frame Marcille's desire for all the races to share the same lifespan as a bad thing. In fact, the narrative seems to say that her goals are very noble, and that she should be given the chance to make that dream a reality, but this specific avenue is not the way, she is being tricked and used.
Ryoko Kui could have just pulled a Dark Phoenix or a Scarlet Witch and decided at that point that the only way they could "save" her would be to murder her, but instead she had Marcille's friends bust their asses trying to get her to give up her rulership of the dungeon and eventually succeed, and I thank her for it.
