actually i love growing older and learning how i work as a person like realizing what kinds of fabrics feel best on my skin or what brand of yogurt i like best or how I want to be touched. watching myself change, enjoying brussel sprouts when I used to hate them as a child, understanding why I got angry in that one conversation 10 years ago… there are so many mysteries inside me that i have yet to unravel and there will always be more and sometimes i think maybe its all worth it

Loyalty might not have killed Percy yet (and that’s the point, he is Different and Unique, the only hero with a happy ending—he’s not going to succumb to his flaw) but it has fucked shit up for the people around him, over and over again. He falls into Tartarus with Annabeth, his role in the WORLD SAVING quest be damned. “Loyalty??? How can that POSSIBLY be bad,” Percy asks, eyes comically wide. Bianca and Zoë have died on a quest he inserted himself into wily nily to save Annabeth. Fast forward a couple of years and he’s riding a Yamaha motorcycle he’s never rode on before with a twelve year old pilion, and he’s like lmao, Michael will just have to deal while I (no notable healing powers but Does have water powers) go save Annabeth. Percy Jackson, Loyalist: “The world was collapsing, and the only thing that really mattered to me was that she was alive.”

ill say it. i love perachel vs. percabeth. i love rachel writing down her phone number on percy’s hand during the failed percabeth date. i love that the first time percabeth reunites after their first kiss in botl percy says they need to find rachel. i love annabeth being pissed about it and percy saying “so much for being the bravest friend she ever had.” i love chiron saying straight up “annabeth is jealous.” i love “i played dumb” “was it hard?” i love rachel kissing percy in the prius. i love beckendorph saying “im guessing you don’t want me to mention that to annabeth.” i love annabeth flying a helicopter to save rachel’s life. i love rachel ending the whole thing by just being like “nvm.” i love percy calling the chapter “i am dumped.” i mean, the DRAMA. the ANGST. the sixteen-year-old FLIRTING. it’s all top tier

Somewhere between then and now, here and there– I guess we didn’t just grow apart; we grew up.

The words were somewhat garbled and blurted out with her head in her hands and there was a pause long enough that Annabeth had to peek through her fingers. Percy blinked back at her, mouth open and fork full of pasta forgotten mid-air. He set it down and his face broke into a massive grin and in retrospect, maybe she should have paid more mind to the beat in between. He reached out and took her hands and leaned over their table and kissed her on the lips and he looked happy for her when he said:

“Congratulations, gorgeous. I’m so proud of you.”
