I used to be a really devout atheist, I mocked religion and thought it was ridiculous how many people still believe something that’s so obviously a bullshit superstition. Over the years I got to know more Christians and it became the norm online to respond to any criticism of religion whatsoever with “le epic fedora man maymay” so I stopped being so obnoxious about it. Nothing’s changed, I still find it incredibly disheartening how many people believe in something so blatantly false, and I’m sickened whenever I see otherwise reasonable people displaying those same beliefs. On an intellectual level I can understand the reasons behind it, but it still hurts to see the sheer irrationality and cognitive dissonance humanity is so often capable of.
