can i speak my truth and say that it bums me out how they removed any semblance of scully’s style in the later seasons. like by season 5/6 they’ve got her wearing a button up and trench coat in every episode.

ugh mulder is really just such a sweetie pie of a character. i mean he has his flaws (any good, compelling character does) and the writing does do him injustice at times, but he’s really soooo !!!!! and i just really really like the way that he likes scully.

thinking of all the guys scully was involved with/liked and how they all just never truly got her. But Mulder from the very start, took her seriously, respected her, listened to her opinions and valued them (even if he sometimes didn’t follow through or ignored it)

he has alwaysss been impressed by how her mind works!!! Quoting her thesis!! “rigid in a wonderful way” all the ways he acknowledge that she had saved him/others/the situation with her medical knowledge

And then his million and one dumb jokes, and flirty quips just to get her to smile and laugh. And all the wonder and mystery in how he sees of the world that ignites scully’s own curiosity!

I think scully was just so seen by mulder in ways that no one did before. and he gave her space to be however she wanted to be.

And can be so so so so SWEET with her, especially when she feels vulnerable bc he knows it’s so hard for her to be that way, I need to bite something to stop myself from screaming.

And of course, just the way he loses his mind a little when she’s in danger. like he literally will go to the ends of the earth of her. Sometimes i remember he did that and i have to pause and clutch my heart.

anyway, i just think there are actually lots of ways that mulder just as a person, has been so good for/to scully and i really do see why above all, they really are best friends (and why the yearning smacks you in the face when you’re watching the two of them - bc of how they see each other and how they have a deep appreciation of the other just as they are)

i wish the script and editing (directing?) for Shapes were not so. Awful. the concepts aren't bad and the Native actors are all really good and trying so hard to make the script work, probably not least because it was and is so rare for NDNs to get roles. D's kind of doing his 'tactless ass Mulder' routine but it works in the context. G is.... surprisingly listless and just walking through it, but the script is even more terrible for Scully and also if my sense of timing is right she had a lot of heavy stuff going on behind the scenes.

But this could really be one of the solid classic insane episodes if it weren't for the clunky writing and horrible pacing. Even the fact that sometimes it's so dark that the characters are non-hyperbolically invisible on screen is charming, really, it's the utter failure to build up dramatic tension despite the subject matter that's the problem.

interestingly, the writer, someone called Marilyn Osborn, only wrote this one ep for TXF and not a whole lot of anything else. Though i assume CC (who is creator credited) did some script editing. Not that that necessarily helps with the pacing, sometimes he has it and sometimes he doesn't lol.

Basically it makes me wish they'd tried something else with NW NDN culture/atmosphere and also that they'd tried something else werewolfy (not necessarily together! in fact probably not!) bc the whole thing is a frustrating amount of 'almost.'
