Ian Brady: Literary Indulgences

All men are divided into ‘ordinary’ and ‘extraordinary.’ Ordinary men live in submission and don't have the right to transgress the law, because, don’t you see, they are ordinary. But extraordinary men have a right to commit any crime and to transgress the law in any way, just because they are extraordinary
)c(

There are certain persons who can... that is, not precisely are able to, but have a perfect right to commit breaches of morality and crimes, and that the law is not for them.
)c(

but never try to answer for what is between a husband and his wife, or a lover and his mistress. There is always one little corner which remains hidden from all the world, and is known only to the two of them. Crime and Punishment Fyodor Dostoevsky

Ian Brady entered the world only weeks before his father died. His mother waa forced to work and leave her new born son at home. Any child would suffer in this situation. Unfortunately his mother couldn't afford a baby sitter so ian was not only abandoned but had no care or human connection. She worked long hours as a waitress and after several months she had no choice but to give her son away. She remained disconnected to Ian and hid his true identify, naively thinking it would protect him. As a child he struggled with relationships. He displayed antisocial behaviour from a young age. When playing games with other kids he would choose to play the villain. As an older child he developed an interest in Horror films. He was nicknamed Dracula by neighbours for his solemn appearance and eccentric nature. He didn't trust adults and had no respect for their authority. As a child he felt weak and powerless. He saw himself as being superior to the rest of society, referring to them as maggots. By closing the door to everyone he gained control. He chose to abandon this world and the laws that govern it. Now he was free to be his own god and create a kingdom without restrictions or conscience.
The discovery of Brady's photography, literature and music provided an insight into his mind. He identified with oppositional characters unrestricted by moral conscience or consequence.
There seemed to be a code between Myra and Ian. Several photos showed Myra posing on the moors with her dog. This led police to the burial sites of 3 victims. Were they taken as trophy pics to gloat of their conquests or markers for murder locations ?
Before each murder, Brady would buy Myra a new pop record. This was his way of telling her, he had the urge to kill again.

Whats in ur opinion the best books written on Ian Brady/ The Moors Murders in general?
Tbh I haven’t read a lot of them but I would say Witness by David Smith, Ian Brady: The Untold Story of the Moors Murders by Alan Keightley and the Moors Murders by C.G.C Cook. Those are like top tier about learning about the case.
