During my time in ARTS102, I learned a lot about the graphic design industry. I had a lot of fun taking this class and it has encouraged me to continue pursuing my degree in graphic design. I've learned that when it comes to graphic design, the little details really do matter and that's what makes things like album covers, posters, t-shirts, etc so appealing because of the small details. While in this course, I often looked around at my peer's designs and always used that as motivation to put more effort and time into my designs, because I know with time and effort, anyone can create something beautiful :).

Project 6 is the final project of the semester. For project 6 I was instructed to create what I'd like to call a journey book or book of journey. The book is supposed to contain all of our work done over the semester in graphic design class. I'm excited about this project because the theme I have for my book is cute and simple and it's exciting being given a template but you can still arrange everything in your own creative way.
I was also instructed to read chapters 16-19 of our textbook and react to it. One thing in the chapters that stood out to me was when the topic of the difference between programmers and graphic designers was brought up. I think it's interesting how in a way graphic designers are programmers but in a different field. Just like how programmers have parameters and set goals they are trying to achieve, graphic designers have that as well. We have a goal of creating something that appeals to our audience and we may have restrictions we have to abide by.

For Project 5 we learned about semantics & syntax. We were instructed to pick a category and choose 4 items from that category to create a magazine-style design. I chose skirts because I think they are cute and I know I can find stylish ones on Pinterest. I enjoyed doing this project. I like the template that was set up for me and the aesthetic of it all.
We were also instructed to read chapter 15 of our textbook. Chapter 15 talks about the differences between print and online media in regard to the design of magazines and newspapers for iPhones and iPads. I think this chapter opened my eyes to how much work is actually put in when moving things from print to technology. It can be a lot.

For project 4, we were assigned four different movies to choose from including beetlejuice, annie, willy wonka and the chocolate factory, and Matilda. We had to watch the original versions, we couldn't use the reworks. From the movie we chose, we chose two characters and we were instructed to create a logo representing that character. I feel like I did a way better job compared to my previous projects. We were also instructed to read chapters 11-14 of "Becoming a Graphic and Digital Designer" by Steven Heller and Veronique Viénne. One quote that stood out to me in the textbook was on page 189, where Richard Saul Wurman said “I do not have a message. I do not have a mission. All I am trying to do is not be boring.” To me, I feel like that quote spoke to me in a way because honestly, I'm not the most passionate/motivated person in life. While everyone else seems to know what they want to do in life, I don't, but I'm giving graphic design a try because it seems like a cool creative field to go into where it forces me to think outside the box and not be boring.

In project 3, I was instructed to create an 11x17 poster using an open-ended famous quote. I enjoyed this project as it challenged my thinking and creativity skills.
I was also instructed to read chapters 6-10 of the "Becoming a graphic & digital designer" by Steven Heller & Véronique Vienne. One thing that stood out to me in these chapters was the subtitle "Can you make a living designing books?" Like said in the book, I agree that it is probably difficult to make a living just off of designing books. I think with graphic design, being well rounded and being able to design more than one thing, will help with making a living easier.

In the past weeks, students were given their second project to complete. With this project, I was instructed to use Adobe Illustrator to go in and scramble words into letters and arrange them to create an abstract.
For my 3 artboards, I tried to do them all with a different vibe so they could stand out on their own. I really like how mine turned out compared to before when I wasn't given feedback yet. I enjoyed doing this project, it was fun and it showed me that I enjoy working with text and editing it.
Students were also instructed to read chapters of the book "Becoming a Graphic and Digital Designer" by Steven Haller and Veronique Vienne. While reading these assigned chapters, something that I thought I could agree with partially is the idea of working with partners when working on projects. I enjoy creating projects alone and doing my own thing, but I do agree that sometimes having a partner or 2 when working on projects that can be really big to handle by yourself, makes things easier.

AI 6 word memoir project

In this project I was assigned to create 2 6-word memoir photos with the AI website craiyon and photoshop. I chose 2 quotes I thought that expressed who I am as a person. I haven’t gotten too far yet because I ended up changing both of my quotes and photos a couple minutes ago. I think i’ve used photoshop once and that was in 9th grade so it will be interesting to explore all the different tools this program has to offer. I’m not sure exactly how I want to do things yet but I remember in class we went over this one text effect that makes the everything look droopy. I really liked that text effect so I’m most likely going to use it. I feel like this project isn’t too complicated and it’s open enough to the point where I can explore photoshop and create something unique to me.
