As hopefully you already know, there are several points modified in the fishing regulations on Lake Balaton.

These changes are not about tightening , they rather for environmental prevention and fish protection.

There are two changes that we take over in the IBFC's rules.

2.6. In case of using safety clip kits, the use of lead is prohibited!

Violation of this rule will be sanctioned with yellow card.

3.4. After the fish was pulled into the boat, it can be taken to the shore for photography but only in the following two ways:

• After the hook is released, the carp is left in the water in the fishnet and towed with its head looking the direction of the travel.

• After the hook is released, the carp is laid on a solid wall mat and continuously sprinkled with fresh water.

Violation of this rule will also be sanctioned with yellow card.

I believe that this competition must adapt to the rules, giving an example and lead the way in improving the fishing culture.

NOTHING'S LOST!

Although more than 100 teams registrated for the competition, according to the rules only the first 100 who pays the entry fee will participate for sure. We will repay the enormous interest with a gift: we will draw one team. Two people from the team will be our guests for a weekend at Lake Balaton Angling Marathon Révfülöp 2014-2018. It’s over – see you next year!

More and more new records, incredibly exciting moments, more successful teams and a fantastic carp frenzy characterized the 5th International Key Telecom Boilie Fishing Competition at Lake Balaton, which can be told to have made history with this game.

In this competition, the Balaton showed its real chilling autumn face, but it also gave the compoetitors more and more beautiful carps with big bellies. In one week which flew by so fast, the total catch exceeded 4 tons, which is very unique! The Hungarian sea was also generous by donating somee scaly oldsters. There were even three of them weighing more than 20 kilos each. It has never ever happened over the last years. This is a remarkable peak performance.

Certainly, these days will remain forever memorable for the participants. Particular congratulations to all the teams who stood up during the week and did not only fight with the carps, but with the forces of nature. The stormy, wavy Balaton has often put the racers in the patt position over the past few days, but the patience and perseverance of the teams have resulted beautiful carps. We can say with confidence that those who, regardless of the outcome, have fought this competition, could stand their ground on any angling water.

After the news blackout on the last night, a lot of big carps were reported. But the most delightful news about a catch over 20 kilos came from the north shore, it was a beautiful mirror carp. That old giant was pulled out of the surging water by the Muzsaji Pontavadászok Team (the sector sponsor: MISEL ZADRAVEC CARP BAITS), which was fishing at Erzsébet Camp at Zánka. With that fish they jumped from the 9th place to the 5th place in the rankings, and also winner of the sector.

As you have seen from our previous summaries, the ZoPiT Bait Service Straubing was unbeatable from the very first day of the competition. Between the second and third place, however, there was a fierce battle among several teams (Pötyi Carp Team, DNS Baits Team, Pirates Gang CFB Team) and finally the Feltörekvők Carp Team became the second at podium and the DNS Baits Team came out third.

The most fantastic moment of the International Key Telecom Boilie Fishing Competition at Lake Balaton was probably the catching of the first 20+ carp after 96 hours,later followed by two others. This feeling was simply indescribable.

In the "theoretical" battle of the North vs South, the south coast has been victorious so all the fishing teams have become richer with a PROLOGIC shopping voucher. 

North: 1.403 kg < 352 kg South: 1.756 kg

The prize for the biggest fish has been awarded to the Balatoni Halgazdálkodás II. Team for tempting a 23400 grams beautiful lake carp to the shore.

During the course of the week, we could see that the five biggest fish rule makes the race really exciting. Since there are quite a few differences in the ranking of some the teams, it was obvious that anything can happen even in the last minute. This makes it really a fierce challenge and also makes it rightful for the title of the most popular race in our country!

We proudly announce that the 4th International Key Telecom Boilie Fishing Competition at Lake Balaton has ended and the closing ceremony was held at the Révfülöp base.

Congratulations to all participating teams who fought their battles with the elements during the week. As you have heard at the closing ceremony, anyone who did this competition, regardless of the results, can boldly set up tents at any bolie fishing water.

The winners we send a handshake again “online” for the merits, which are available now in the published list of results.

A lot of beautiful moments, huge carps and new NBBH records are behind us, which probably will remain in our memory forever.

Thanks to you competitors for your endurance, patience, we promise we will learn from this year’s experience and organize an even greater event for you next year!

Standings of the IV. International Key Telecom Boilie Fishing Competition after 96 hours

What could be a better morning than hearing the news that the record of the biggest fish in the history of this four years old competition had been broken at night? And not only once but twice! There were some signs, as the storm warning was moderated to first level, so everyone could pull in again, and it was obvious, that despite the significant front or because of it, Balaton was giving the fish rhythmically. So Wednesday morning double good news did not make surprise, but made more joy, as the two nearly 19 kilograms boilie thiefs have raied the  IV. International Key Telecom Boilie Fishing Competition’s glory.

The record was first beaten by Max Carp - Wild Carpfishing Team (sponsors of the sector are DYNAMITE BAITS and MISEL ZADRAVEC CARP BAITS) with a 18.800 grams fish at Fonyód, but later in a battle of the night was overtaken by with 50 grams at Keszthely by CarpSoul Hungary’s team 1. (sponsor of the sector IMPERIAL BAITS) who switched their smallest fish to a 18.850 grams beauty, so they have not only the biggest fish but they jumped up to the second place in the overall standings.

In the dizzying race the Balaton Halgazdálkodás Team (sector sponsor is CARP-MADNESS HUNGARY) who took the lead from the first night – and could increase their overall weight with only a few pounds – fell back two places in the standings, and passed the first place to the Romanian Iannis Lake (sector sponsor is Dynamite baits)  who was besieging from the beta position. But the excitement of Wednesday had just begun.

The new system of measuring only the five biggest fish seems to be a good change, as it raised some less successful  teams like the MAX Carp Nové Zámky (sector sponsor is NORTHERN BAITS), who with only one nice catch of a 15.425 grams common carp jumped up to the elegant midfield.

Interesting about this catch is that László Fűri, who directed this beauty right into his landing net, had become 60 a couple days earlier so he celebrated his birthday at 5:45 this morning with a prominent guest given by the lake. God bless them both!

During the day, it cooled things down because of the clear weather rose hard, sometimes stormy wind, although this was mainly due to that because of second-level storm warning everywhere the team were not able to pull the lures in and it slowed the tempo down.

Some successful throwing from shore and some feeder ship action through the waves showed that despite the fool weather, fish feel very well in the water cooled down from 18 to 14 degrees, and highly enriched with oxygen and they still are industriously looking for a high-energy boilies, which in light of the upcoming winter (which this afternoon brought a hail storm with lentil-sized ice as a harbinger) is an understandable behavior from the old carps of the lake.

The 90 flash per minute of the second-level storm warning kept its signals stubbornly during the day, which the disciplined teams tolerated well, however the ban from going in or onto the water sometimes made quite dramatic moments.

The Wednesday morning a new record with 18 850 grams by CarpSoul Hungary Team 1 made another big fish adventure which we could enjoy live as after photographing and releasing ceremony of the recorder fish, one of their fishing rod “fired”. After a fifteen minute playing from the shore - it was difficult to pull close enough to the shore in the low water – the carp finally kicked himself free and fled.

The boys worn heroically this painful loss of fish on the second place in the standings, fair play prize to them, hope they will be compensated with a couple of beautiful old carps by the capricious lake!

By late afternoon, the lights switched on 45 flashes per minute and this meant that in the downgraded first-level storm warning the competitors could pass the water. So everyone had enough time to prepare for the forthcoming Wednesday night, which certainly will be exciting, because in the first hour of the evening came the sensational news that the morning double record is broken again: the absolute competition record now is a 18.950 grams carp caught by a team of Keszthely the VMC Mystic Carp (sponsors of the sector are NORTHERN BAITS and IMPERIAL BAITS) who are now chasing the leader Iannis Lake .

After 96 hours we could say that beyond expectations currently more than 40 fish over 10 kgs make competitors  and organizers be more excited about the final results of IV. International Key Telecom Boilie Fishing Competition, which now turns to its extraordinary finish. The winning places currently in respect of the total catch are as follows:

Happenings in the first 48 hours of IV. International Boilie Fishing Competition

We can’t say that the competition which started on Saturday afternoon in a summer heat was eventless. Actually there are different levels of storm warnings, teams struggling with the elements, and some beautiful catches make this an exciting race. But do not be so hasty.

It was a big question that compared to previous years’ spring competitions, how this autumn NBBH will debut in respect of catches. Well, soon came the answer. The first fish - a nearly seven-kilo common carp - have arrived on the opening day’s eve on the north shore in Pálköve by Two Bro Carp Team (sector sponsor is NORTHERN BAITS). By the morning the first 10+ fish rested in the sack of Balatoni Halgazdálkodás Team (sector sponsor CARP-MADNESS HUNGARY) at Tihany.

But hegemony of northern shore catches did not last so long as by Sunday evening many teams on the southern shore started the first full day with serious collections. Most of them signed up for the catch list and not with just a fish. It was a really good start of southerners as last night with a 15.225 gram mirror carp team Pontycentrum (sponsor of the sector IMPERIAL BAITS) at Balatonberény took the lead from the northerners and still keeps it.

Monday morning, another teams managed to move from their zero point and some 10+ fish were waiting to be measured. The Ba Baits Team (sector sponsor Dynamite Baits) from Szeklerland, Romania with a 14 .900 gram carp almost managed to earn the largest fish title at Fonyód, while next to them an also Romanian team from Oradea Iannis Lake succeeded with a nice 13.200 gram common carp.

At north it was also an eventful night. In Badacsony the Fanatic Carp Team (sector sponsor NORTHERN BAITS) signed up with a  9.925 gram fish, while the leader from the first morning Balaton Halgazdálkodás Team with two new catch a 8.100 g and 12. 775 g assured its position with only 3.550 grams in total.

This fact refuted the theory that the North shore would be better however at the drawing ceremony most teams insisted this theory and even ’prayed’ for a north shore fishing place. Of course, beyond the myths there are understandable reasons of the southern coast boilie fishing difficulties - as the larger pulling distances, and the quite crested waves in the north wind.

This is something to keep in mind by all competitors, since this morning the “Balaton Summer” has finally ended and the autumn showed its real pride. An invading front with serious cool down strengthened with strong winds offended Balaton - particularly the south shore - which caused second-level storm warnings in the Middle and Eastern basin.

As the second-level storm warning means entire water ban according to authority’s rules, it forced a lot of team to change their strategies. Of course, a race is always a good challenge when real anglers need to deal with circumstances, not whether the optimal conditions occur.

Fortunately, the fish appetite was not discouraged by the change of weather, they seemed to continue seeking for the feedings, so despite the intruder front it is worth to be persistent and to do everything in order to succeed in these difficult conditions.

In a Monday morning interview Tibor Tulipán, tourism manager of Lake Fish Management Company and member of the hosting team who leads the competition after 48 hours also confirmed this by giving useful advice to the participants about the Balaton boilie fishing.

According to his information some experienced teams – expecting second-level warning - have created feedings before the storm to which they could easily throw from the shore as well. As they predict the same weather for the whole week - warnings are expected to be rated up and down – he advises this tactic to every team in the breaks of storm warnings.

More help from him that it is not necessarily a good tactic to draw in more fish with high feeding, since if fewer fish staying in the area - which has such a big chance at a large water surface - then they will have enough to eat before they reach  the boilies offered to them.

He revealed that they prepared only 30 kilos of boilies, but it is only two-thirds they intend to use for feeding. With regard to the changing weather he added that since the lake temperature was still 17-18 degrees prior to the front, the cooling is not at all a problem. According to his observations, it is even good if the carp sense the approach of winter so become more actively going for the food.

After forty-eight hours we can say that a strong start of the competition, a lot of fish, and weather that forced teams to change tactics define the warm-up phase of IV. International Key Telecom Boilie Fishing Competition at Lake Balaton, after which the prize-winning places in respect of the total catch are currently:

Why Balaton?

When I was a child, my favourite water was lake Balaton. Not because of angling but because of the summer camps. We usually went to Balatonakali, where the camping was rented by our school every summer. I caught my first Balaton fish during these summer camps, even that eel which almost made me a heart-attack. Unfortunately those childhood campings were not continued and I had to wait for almost forty years when I visited the “Hungarian Sea” again.

It was last year when I had a chance to experience that Balaton has its own surprises sometimes. If you sit down on the right place with the right attitude, you can have such a fantastic angling experience. This year accompanied with my friends from dunaszerdahely we entered for the 4th International Boilie Fishing Competition at Lake Balaton. 

Our goal is obvious! Get in close relationship with this lake and if the chance is given by our place we would like to stand on the podium. To be honest we would be satisfied with a good angling and some nice carps. One thing is for sure, we have already started the preparation with our application. On the weekend we make the boilies. The taste and the size is yet unknown.

Why am I so unsure?

Because in this competiton the total weight of the five biggest fish caught will win, so we need different strategy then on the other competitions. A totally different one. I think we will be well prepared, the groundbaits and the lures will be ok.

We are looking forward to the start of the competition at the beginning of October.
