I think what draws me to Haikyuu so much is that the story puts such an emphasis on personal growth. Hinata doesn't just achieve his goals right away like in a lot of sports animes, but works for years and years and goes through the pain of watching his best friend's back walk ahead of him while he trains. But he keeps training and gets better and it isn't portrayed as a simple painless process, but nonetheless he gets where he wants to be and there's something really encouraging about that!!!
