Torno de los huérfanos (Barcelona)
En la calle Ramalleres, en el barrio de El Raval de Barcelona, se encuentra la Casa de la Misericordia que fue fundada en 1583 para dar un techo a niños huérfanos y abandonados. Es la fachada de esta casa aún puede verse el llamado torno de los huérfanos (torn dels orfes), que consiste en un agujero en el muro de la casa donde se dejaban los recién nacidos anónimamente, girándose el torno para introducirlo al interior del inmueble. La ranura a su izquierda era para quien tenía a bien dejar limosna.

I’ve had this post saved up for days, waiting to release it when I ran out of other posts, because this is easily the greatest thing I have ever voiced, and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to top it
