Business of Respect
(InuYasha modern AU)
Sesshomaru sat in the conference room with his new legal counsel. They were at this relatively small, but promising company to negotiate an acquisition.
"They are completely unprofessional if they think they can make us wait." The lawyer smoothed his tie and shifted in his seat.
Sesshomaru couldn't remember the man's name. Hori? Hei? Hugo? Something unremarkable. He wasn't fond of his haughty attitude.
Both men looked up when a woman walked into the room. "Good afternoon, gentlemen. May I get you anything before we start?" Her smile was genuine.
Sesshomaru was struck by how beautiful the woman was, though she wasn't trying to flaunt it. He'd run across more than his fair share who were willing to do anything to get ahead. He waved away her offer with a shake of his head.
"Yes, a coffee for me, sweetheart. Two sugars one cream. Also, do you have any idea when your boss might be here? Our president is a very busy man."
"Any minute, I'm sure." Her smile maintained, but Sesshomaru noticed it was no longer real. She turned to the other end of the conference room and began to fix the drink.
"Honestly, don't they know we're here as a courtesy to them? We could just outright buy this company." The lawyer sneered. "Rudeness should not be tolerated."
Sesshomaru glared at the other man. He had said that remark at speaking volume. There was no doubt the woman heard. He made a mental note that when they got back to the office he should fire this idiot.
The woman walked back over and set the cup down carefully in front of the lawyer.
"I'm sorry to inform you that the deal previously discussed will no longer be considered. I'm sorry you have wasted your precious time. I'll have security see you out." She bowed to them with that polite smile still in tact.
She turned and left the two of them sitting there in silence. Well, brief silence anyway.
"How dare she!" the lawyer screeched. "Who is she to make that decision!"
As soon as she had closed the door Sesshomaru was on his phone. He looked up the Owner and CEO of the company, and with no surprise found the woman's picture. Kagome Higurashi.
He stood fluidly and buttoned his suit jacket. "She has every right." He walked to the door, but paused with his hand on the knob. "By the way, you're fired. Find your own way back to the office and collect your things."
Sesshomaru made it through the maze of a building, and found the CEO's office. He knocked then waited.
"Come in." Her voice snapped through the solid wood.
He entered and shut the door behind himself. The woman was pacing behind her desk, obviously agitated. Rightfully so.
She glanced at him where he stood by the door, and froze in place. "What do you want? I thought I made it clear our deal was off."
He bowed low to her. "I must ask your forgiveness for the way my former employee spoke. He does not reflect the views of me or my company."
"Former employee?"
He straightened from his bow to see her staring at him with her hands on her hips. Gods she was beautiful.
"He said one thing right."
"Oh?" she frowned.
"Rudeness will not be tolerated." She turned her head, but he caught the beginnings of a smile. "I wish to alter the deal."
She motioned him to one of the plush chairs as she sat at her desk. "What are you proposing?"
He settled in the seat. "Less of an acquisition, more of a partnership."
One of her eyebrows rose. "In what way?"
They spent the next several hours formulating a new plan. Between the contracts and the shared takeout Sesshomaru was sure he was never letting go of this woman.
It was long into the evening when they had to bid goodnight. He took her hand to shake it, but decided to kiss it instead. He was delighted when she blushed.
He was reluctant to release her hand so rubbed his thumb across the soft skin. "What happened in the conference room. I must say I would've handled it much differently."
Her look was guarded. "How so?"
"I would've dumped his coffee on his head."
She threw back her head and laughed. This was the best business meeting he'd ever attended.
~
One year later they were exchanging vows in a private ceremony, and he was still letting no one disrespect her.

The Short and Tall of It
Kei was nervous. This was the first time at his boyfriend's house. They hadn't been dating long, but the distance between their houses had prevented a prior visit.
Shoyo seemed to be excited, but the blond could tell even he was nervous. Paradoxically that eased Kei's nerves some.
"We're here!" Shoyo called out as they slipped off their shoes. There was a pounding of feet and all of a sudden there was another red-head standing in front of Kei.
Natsu stared up at the boy with glasses. "How tall are you?"
He was a little startled that that was the first thing she'd say to him. He could definitely see the family resemblance.
"Natsu! Be polite!" Shoyo fretted behind her.
"Not sure, somewhere in the 190's"
She nodded. "Kneel." She pointed to the floor at her feet. He saw her toes wiggle in her socks.
Not wanting to get her mad and quite curious as to what she wanted, he did as told.
Shoyo made an exasperated noise, but both of the others ignored him.
Natsu stepped closer and clapped Kei's cheeks between her palms. She stared at him for a long minute. "You like-like my brother."
Kei's cheeks pinked. "Yes."
"You will take care of him."
He wasn't sure if that was a question or a demand. "Yes."
Natsu stared into his soul again. "Okay. Now carry me."
A smile tugged at his lips. She was precocious, he'd give her that. He scooped her to sit comfortably in his arms.
Then he noted his boyfriend was standing there with his mouth open and face as red as his hair. They walked past him as if this were an everyday occurrence.
From that day Natsu clung to her new "brother". Kei felt superior, especially when Shoyo displayed his jealousy. It was all too delicious.

Clothes Make A Man (?)
(A musing by Yamazaki Sousuke)
It started with generic swim trunks. When Sousuke first really took note of Makoto, they were both at a swim meet in junior high. Though at the time, the only thing he noted was that he was one of Rin's annoying friends.
Then it was legskins in high school, and Makoto became something else (a friend?). Honestly, he really wasn't that bad a guy.
All of these passed by without much notice in Sousuke's life until he got to college. There he saw Makoto again.
He was a real friend now, one he wanted to spend more time with. One that he found himself more and more drawn to.
Recently Makoto took to wearing a wet suit as he assisted with Sousuke's coaching. It baffled him how the less skin Makoto showed, the more he found him attractive.
Not to say he found him unattractive before. Heck, he'd gladly see him naked (a thought which fueled a few late night self-gratification sessions).
Then there was this one time Makoto had worn a three piece suit. It had been a request from a costuming friend or something. He wasn't clear on the details because he'd spent the entire encounter trying to keep his hands to himself.
When he finally (FINALLY) confessed, he was then granted the privilege of taking Makoto's clothes off. His hands shook at the sacred task now gifted him.
Makoto took his boyfriend's hands in his. "If you're not ready, we don't have to do this."
He shook his head and kissed him on the temple. "That's not it. I just feel so overwhelmingly honored I get to be with you."
Jade eyes softened. "I feel the same. Though, I'm not in as good of shape as I once was." He tried to laugh off his nervousness.
Sousuke kissed his boyfriend soundly. "You could be wearing a potato sack and I'd still find you attractive. It's not what's on the outside that matters. All I can see is my wonderful, beautiful, sweet, wonderful boyfriend."
Makoto's eyes were suspiciously wet. "You said wonderful twice."
Sousuke nodded. "It's worth repeating."
This time it was Makoto who kissed his boyfriend silly.

Efforts Not In Vain
Sesshomaru approached the hut at the edge of the village. As he often did, he wished to visit the miko Kagome.
After the vanquishing of Naraku he'd come to appreciate his talks with the young priestess.
Of course he'd originally come to this village to visit his ward. Rin was exuberant and always happy to see him, though rather verbose today.
Now he was looking forward to the gentle peace he was afforded in the miko's presence.
He announced himself at the entry of her hut, and as usual she beckoned him in. As soon as he was through the crude door, he had to take a sharp intake of breath.
Kagome knelt on a small cushion. She was wearing her best kimono (he knew it was her best because he'd given it to her as thanks for teaching Rin to read). Her hair was up in an elaborate style adorned with combs and Kanzashi.
Fortunately, she had opted not to apply the cosmetics popular for this period. She did apply some, but it was attractively light.
Immediately, he straightened his posture. "Miko."
She smiled at him. "Lord Sesshomaru."
His eyebrow twitched. She never used his title. "Why are you dressed thus?"
She looked down at her hands and he perceived her blush. "I was expecting very important company today."
He bristled, whoever it may be they weren't worthy of all this. "Isn't that casting pearls before swine?" He folded his arms into his sleeves.
Her mouth dropped open. "What?"
Warnings went off in his head, but his pride controlled his mouth at the moment. "I'm not sure those of this village would appreciate your efforts."
Her eyes narrowed, and she rose to her feet with some effort. "Sorry that I wanted to do something nice for someone special!" she practically spit at him.
Special. Unexpectedly that pained him. But he didn't understand her ire. He was merely stating facts.
Besides, he'd rather she not do 'something nice' for someone while wearing the dress he gave her.
He narrowed his eyes. "Who is it?"
She crossed her arms over her ample chest, which had only been enhanced by her obi. "I don't think you deserve to know."
What? She usually told him most things. Perhaps she knew already that the man was unfit, and naturally he'd disapprove of him.
"InuYasha?" Why was he guessing? He really needed to leave. He was having difficulties controlling his temper.
She blew out a breath that sounded like a scoff. "What does it matter to you?"
"Because, he's not..." worthy. He ground his teeth to keep the words back.
She put her hands on her hips. "Not what, Sesshomaru?"
He stared over her head so as not to see the hurt look on her face. "Forgive This Sesshomaru. I've overstayed my welcome. I will leave you to your guest." He couldn't hide the disgust from his voice in the last word.
He turned to go but felt a firm hand on his elbow.
"Not you? Is that what you meant?" Her voice was tight.
Was that what he meant? It unfortunately rang of truth. When did his affections turn so drastically that he felt possessive over the miko?
The woman deflated with a deep sigh. "You may go." She turned away and took a few steps further into the hut. "Happy birthday."
The mumbled sentiment was not delivered joyfully, and it felt like a slap in the face. All of the pieces fell into place and the demon lord couldn't have felt worse.
"Miko," he started but redirected, "Kagome." He was a disgrace to his lineage, a utter fool.
He reached for her, turning her towards him again. He was stabbed in the heart to see tears upon her cheeks. He dried the tracks with a brush of his fingers.
"I was not mistaken," he burned to say the words, and he could see in her expression she didn't comprehend. "I can say unequivocally that I am not worthy of you."
"This one has come to cherish our time together. Please forgive my misunderstanding."
She sighed and slipped her arms around his waist, pulling him close. He was used to receiving hugs from Rin but this felt different. He didn't know what to do with his hands, finally settling them on her back.
They stood that way for a few more minutes before she pulled back to look at him. He could see the forgiveness in her countenance and he knew he didn't warrant it.
"Is there anything else you would like for your birthday, since you ruined my gift?" She asked with a cheeky smile.
Impulsively he leaned down and kissed her lightly on the cheek. When he regained his senses she was staring up at him wide-eyed.
"Sesshomaru." He wasn't sure if that was a question or not, but didn't have the time to contemplate it when she pulled him down for a proper kiss.
When they finally came up for air he was practically holding her up. "Best birthday on memory."
His next gift was the immediate resounding of her laughter.

Hard Pairing
(a Zootopia musing)
It'll never work between us,” Nick said in exasperation.
Judy placed her hands on her hips and gave him The Look. The one that was a mixture of 'you're insane' and 'I'm not going to be moved'. He'd seen this look a million times before, he loved that look, but not when it came to this.
“Why not?” she tilted her chin up slightly.
“Come on! Think about it. Do you see any other mixed species couples out there?” He gestured to the windows. “Much less Pred and Prey?” He was trying to reason with her. This was a hard, hard road. All uphill.
She rolled her violet eyes. “When has that ever stopped either of us from doing something? First rabbit officer,” she pointed to herself. “First fox officer,” she pointed at him. “What is right, even though it's not popular, can't be pushed to a dark corner,” she held staunchly.
He sighed and rubbed his muzzle. She wasn't seeing the big picture. “Everyone, and I mean everyone, will be against us. Our lives will be put under the microscope, do you want that kind of scrutiny in your life?”
She frowned as she thought about that. Suddenly he saw her eyes cloud over. “Are you saying what we have isn't worth it? That it would be too hard to be with me?”

Mists
It was early morning. The sun had just begun to think about rising, and Kakashi was once again at the memorial stone. He was visiting the team he once had but cruelly lost; as he did most mornings when in the village.
There was a low fog this morning that blanketed the ground obscuring the grass, and bases of trees. It would seem spooky to some but to the copy-nin it was peaceful, quiet. He most likely would still be standing there until the sun had burned off the mist, but he sensed someone else nearby.
It wasn't unusual for a patrol or returning unit to be out that early, but this was someone different. Someone who wasn't concealing their presence, or at least didn't care to at the moment. Curiosity pulled Kakashi from his lonely vigil.
He passed where the Third lay to rest, a little further to an area known to him, but of which very few others visited. There lay the memorial stone set for his late father, in front of it crouched a figure he would know anywhere.
“Iruka-sensei?”
The man stood and turned towards the voice. “Ah, Kakashi-sensei. I didn't expect anyone else here at this hour.” He chuckled and rubbed the back of his neck. “Though, I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised it was you, considering.”
Kakashi was a little baffled. “Considering?”
Iruka motioned down to the rock, at which Kakashi just noticed a bowl of fruit and incense sitting in front. “You came to wish him happy birthday as well.”
It took all of his ninja training not to react in surprise. Honestly he'd forgotten his father's birthday. How did this teacher know, and why would he care?
Iruka stared down at the memorial with a soft smile. “I came to wish him peace, but also to thank him.”
Kakashi was silent for a moment as he took that in. “Thank him?” Could he only manage questions today?
Iruka nodded. “I thanked him for what he did to save his team, though it cost him dearly. He was wronged in so many ways. Also I thanked him for you.” He glanced at the other teacher. “Without you I have no idea what would've happened to our village. Much less what would've happened to Naruto.”
Kakashi was a loss for words. What could he say to that? As he was grappling with his thoughts the other teacher, with a parting pat on his shoulder, made his departure.

Pairs
All their friends were pairing up. Even Haruka had a boyfriend, as unbelievable as that was.
Sousuke wasn't jealous or anything. Really, he wasn't. It's just that being single in a group of rowdy (i.e. meddlesome) friends was tough.
They never shut up about his love life, or lack thereof. All while flaunting their happy relationships in front of him.
Okay. So, maybe he was a little jealous.
At least Tachibana was in the same boat. He'd never heard him talk about a love interest. What was wrong with them? They were two reasonably good-looking guys. There had to be someone out there for them.
They were at another gathering of extended friends and Rin had just gotten through another diatribe on how Sousuke shouldn't be alone. Sousuke'd had enough so he wandered off for some peace.
He came across Tachibana sitting on the couch sipping a drink. "Ah, a sane person," he said as he flopped down next to him.
Makoto chuckled. "Rin getting on your nerves again?" It was the truth that as good of friends as they were, they were also each others' biggest irritations.
Sousuke sighed and rubbed his eyes. "Yeah. He just won't shut up about this dating thing." He glanced at the other man. "You know how it is, I'm sure." He gave him a backhanded slap on the arm. "I bet they don't leave you alone, either."
A strange look passed over his face that Sousuke couldn't place. "My case is a bit different."
Sousuke's eyebrows rose. "Oh? How so?"
A blush tinted Makoto's cheeks. "There's someone I like, but, um, we're not together."
Sousuke was trying to process that in his brain, and by the time he came back to the world Makoto had been called out of the room to help with something.
In the weeks that followed it stayed on Sousuke's mind. Why wasn't Makoto with the person he liked? Did they reject him? Who would do that? He was perfect. Handsome, honest, loyal, smart. What wasn't there to love?
He tried to subtly ask around about it to their friends. Most gave him disapproving, if not cold looks (honestly, he didn't understand that), and refused to answer.
Was liking this person shameful? Like a coach or somebody's mother? He wasn't sure why this was bugging him but it did. He had no clue who was Makoto's type.
It all came to a head when Nanase cornered him. "Stop poking around in Makoto's love life," he threatened in no uncertain terms.
Sousuke bristled. "Like you and Rin poke around in it?" He relished (though he shouldn't) the look on the swimmer's face.
"I wish he had better taste, and I can't dissuade how he feels, but you shouldn't be sticking your nose where it doesn't belong." With that Nanase left.
Sousuke was mad, and more curious than ever, as to who this mystery person was. Honestly, he was coming to despise whoever it was. They were blind if they couldn't see what a catch Makoto was.
He almost wished he knew who it was so he could punch them. They didn't deserve Makoto. He was too good for them.
His thoughts were interrupted by a knock on his door. Sousuke was surprised to find the very person who'd been occupying his thoughts. "Makoto. Come in."
Green eyes crinkled in an unconvincing smile. "Thanks. I hope I wasn't disturbing?"
Sousuke shook his head. "No, I was just thinking." 'Mostly about you.'
"Oh," he took a breath. "I heard Haru came to see you today."
Warning bells went off in Sousuke's head. "Um, yeah."
Makoto faced him with his hands on his hips. "Was it because you've been asking around about who it is I like?"
Sousuke blanched, he knew! He rubbed the back of his neck. "I guess?"
"Why does this matter so much to you?"
Now that was the question, wasn't it? He swallowed around the knot in his throat. "Because whoever it is is an idiot, and you shouldn't be with an idiot!" He couldn't stop the words spewing out of his mouth.
Makoto's eyebrows rose, making his impossibly green eyes seem larger. "An idiot?"
"Yes! If this person can't see that you're the best, then they're an idiot. Heck, I'd date you in a heartbeat."
Makoto was silent as he stared at Sousuke. "You would date me?" his voice had gone quiet.
Sousuke froze where he stood. Did he just say that? He did, didn't he? It was the truth too, he could feel it. "I would." He would, if given the chance. Why, oh why, did he want that chance so bad?
Makoto seemed to shake himself out of whatever was going on in his head. "What if the reason I'm not with the person I like is because I haven't told them how I feel?"
That knocked all the wind out of his sails. "You haven't told them? Why?"
Makoto shrugged one shoulder. "Fear of rejection, not wanting to ruin our friendship, take your pick."
A friend? Was it someone he knew? He approached the other man and took his hand. "You need to say something. You may be surprised, and they could feel the same way."
Conflicting emotions passed over Makoto's face but he didn't try to retrieve his hand. After an agonizing minute he took a deep breath. "Sousuke, would you consider going out with me?"
Dark brows furrowed. "I said I would. What..."
He was so dense. He really was A. Fucking. Idiot. He shut his eyes to collect himself.
He felt Makoto squeeze his hand. That wonderful sweet man. Oh, God he didn't deserve him.
Finally, he opened his eyes and slid his arms around the other man's waist. "I would be honored to take you on a date."
Makoto's smile rivaled the sun.
At least now, Sousuke was part of a pair, and he can get his well-meaning (nosy) friends off his back.
But more than that, he had the sweetest boyfriend in the world.

Who She Looks For
Sesshomaru wasn't paying attention to how they came upon the topic, but he could thank any gods that may listen to a demon like him that they had.
He'd been monitoring the perimeter as the women prepared the evening meal. He only half-heard their conversation until the current topic caught his full attention. They were talking about qualities they looked for in a mate.
The demon slayer's description sounded suspiciously like the monk. But that wasn't his business. His focus at the moment was on the other woman.
He wanted to know who the priestess sought. What did Kagome look for in a mate?
The kit asked her if she wanted someone handsome, and she shook her head. That wasn't as important to her as other qualities.
Courageous. He supposed someone who could protect her was reasonable. It was a known fact she was a continuous source of trouble.
Devoted to her. No other woman in his sights. He snorted in derision. He thought that would've been a given.
He glanced at his woeful half-brother, who was currently staring off into the trees. Perhaps not.
She surprised him with the desire that the male be honorable. Not willing to shirk his duties, willing to see tasks to completion. He hadn't expected her to say that.
Compassionate. Willing to do things for those who gained him little-to-nothing in return.
Rin piped up that it sounded like Lord Sesshomaru. The demon lord himself stiffened to hear her response.
The priestess looked down at what she was working on, and he could see a blush color her cheeks. A blush that had nothing to do with her proximity to the fire.
A small smile tugged at the corner of her lips. "Perhaps it does."

A Little Treat
(Haikyuu omegaverse AU)
“I have something for you, alpha.” Keiji Akaashi purred.
“Do you now?” Koutarou Bokuto's grin widened.
Keiji took his hand and led him further into the room. He kept eye contact as he slipped off his robe showing he was bare underneath. He backed up onto the bed and laid against the headboard giving the other man a lazy smile.
“Master Keiji?” master Koutarou was a war of emotions; surprise, confusion, elation, not to mention a healthy dose of lust.
The omega ran a hand down from his chest to where his member lay soft on his belly. He watched as the alpha tracked the movement diligently. “I have someplace warm and soft that fits you just right.” His hand went further and into his folds, finding no resistance there. “A place that is so wet it will surely mess up my sheets.” He spread he legs wide to show the glistening wetness coating his fingers.
He was gratified to see the outline of the other man's erection tenting his pants, even as he stood there gawking. Finally master Koutarou let out a little growl and started stripping. As soon as the last article was shed, he grabbed a pillow and came stalking across the mattress.
“I'm going to eat you out until you cry.” The look on his face meant business as he slipped the pillow under the omega's hips and laid down between his open legs.
As soon as that glorious tongue sent a shiver through his core, he carded his fingers through the alpha's hair. “Such a good alpha, taking such -ah, good care of his omega.”

Courting
(Free! werewolf AU)
Sousuke shook with rage as he ran through the forest, a small bundle clasped in his fist. The werewolf clans of the local territories were meeting in their annual full moon festival, and ever since they'd arrived Sousuke had been plagued by one wolf in particular.
Makoto seemed to be everywhere he was, he couldn't get away from the guy. For an omega he was far too friendly with everyone. Didn't his clan know how dangerous that was? What are they teaching wolves these days?
True, Makoto was larger than most omega, but that didn't mean he could flaunt – associate safely with alphas. Alphas like Sousuke who were unmated, and could possibly hurt a poor unsuspecting omega like him.
(Sousuke would never! But that doesn't mean someone else wouldn't! He'd seen that red-head Seijuurou from his clan eyeing him a time or two. He was sure there were others.)
Not that he didn't find him attractive. Blind werewolves would find Makoto attractive. It's just he didn't want to see a nice omega like him prancing in front of such a drooling hoard.
Okay, prancing may have been a bit of an exaggeration, but still. And... maybe he'd thought of courting him. To have those warm green eyes turned his way exclusively. They could have such strong pups together...
But then he'd gotten back to his tent this evening and found a bundle of perfectly cured stag meat waiting on his bedding. The wrapping smelled strongly of Makoto. It threw him into a rage.
He crashed through the forest in his haste to get to the Tachibana home. As with most unmated omegas he still lived with his dam and sire, helping to take care of the most recent litter. Sousuke pounded on the door when he reached it, he didn't care if he woke the whole household.
The door was opened almost immediately by the dam with Makoto following close behind. They both looked surprised but pleased he was there.
“Evening, ma'am. I need to speak with Makoto for a minute,” he said much more civilly than he felt at the moment.
She looked excited and practically pushed her eldest out the door.
“Good evening, Sousuke.” Makoto clasped his hands in front of him, as if he could make himself seem smaller.
Sousuke grunted his greeting then held up the bundle. “Care to explain this?”
Makoto glanced at it then his eyes dropped to the ground, a blush coloring his cheeks. “It's meat I cured for you.”
Sousuke growled low. “Why would you do that? I'm not weak. Just because I have this scar on my shoulder doesn't mean I can't hunt,” he barked out.
Green eyes flew up to meet his. “Oh no, alpha! I didn't, that's not...”
“Then what is it?!” he demanded.
Makoto took his hand clasping the bundle in both of his. “In our clan the omega has the say in courting. When interested the omega will offer a token, and the alpha can decide to peruse or not. I'm sorry, I forgot not all clan practices are the same.”
That knocked all the anger out of the black wolf. “You want me to court you?”
Makoto hummed with a small smile. He took a step closer and tilted his head, exposing his neck.
Sousuke practically purred as he licked a stripe on the proffered skin. “Makoto, I'd very much like to court you.”
Makoto wrapped his arms around his alpha's neck. “I'd very much like that as well.”
Sousuke cut short the omega's grin by pressing a kiss onto his lips instead.
