Learn More About the Ideal Protein Protocol - Why Do We Talk about Metabolic Syndrome?
Metabolic Syndrome, arguably the epidemic of the century, is the name given to a general disorder characterised by four symptoms: 1. Central obesity 2. Hypertension 3. Hyperlipidemia 4. Hyperglycemia One of the objectives of the Protocol is to help address the issues surrounding metabolic syndrome, a common risk factor for heart disease and diabetes. At Ideal Protein, we believe that Metabolic Syndrome is a problem caused by food (high carbohydrate intake, i.e. sugar), but the treatment is also food. When we put patients and clients on a ketogenic diet, insulin levels decrease. By keeping insulin levels low, we allow the cells to regain their sensitivity to insulin and the pancreas' production of insulin to return to normal. It’s National Mushroom Day and Low Fat Low Carb has some delicious recipes that include mushrooms! Cinnamon Maple Oatmeal Cookies by Janeva Eickhoff
Ingredients:
1 maple or apple oatmeal mix (dry) 
1 tsp. baking powder 
1 tsp. Splenda (or stevia)
1/8 tsp. cinnamon 
3 T. liquid egg whites 
2 tsp. grapeseed or olive oil
Ÿ tsp. vanilla extract 
1 T. water 
Cooking spray 
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a medium bowl, mix together the dry ingredients.
Add the liquid ingredients; mix well with a spatula making sure to incorporate the olive or grape seed oil.
Drop 6 spoonfuls far apart onto a parchment lined baking sheet.
Spray the back of the spoon with cooking spray and spread each cookie to the thickness of a thin mint.
Bake 12 minutes. Cool on cooling rack.
Servings – 6 cookies = 1 unrestricted
TIP: When spreading the cookies with the back of the spoon, wipe clean from any batter and spray again for each cookie. This will make them much easier to spread.

These are one of our absolute favorite IP-friendly recipes!! 🍴 *********** CHICKEN AND ZUCCHINI POPPERS INGREDIENTS 1 lb. ground chicken breast 2c grated zucchini (leave peel on and squeeze out some of the liquid with paper towels or a clean kitchen towel) 2-3 green onions, sliced 3-4 Tbsp cilantro, minced 1 clove garlic 1 tsp salt ½ tsp pepper (optional: ¾ tsp cumin) olive oil, for cooking (or coconut oil, avocado oil, or ghee) INSTRUCTIONS Toss chicken with zucchini, green onion, cilantro, garlic, salt, and pepper (and cumin, if using). Mixture will be quite wet. To cook on the stovetop: Heat a drizzle of olive oil in a medium pan over medium heat. Use a small scoop or a heaped tablespoon to scoop meatballs into the pan. Cook 8-10 at a time for about 5-6 minutes on the first side. Flip and cook an additional 4-5 minutes, or until golden brown and the centers are cooked through. To bake: Drizzle a bit of olive or avocado oil onto a baking sheet. Scoop meatballs onto the greased pan. Drizzle a bit of additional oil over the meatballs. Bake at 400 degrees 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through. If desired, place under the broiler for an additional 2-3 minutes or until browned on top.
