okay so. for context, this year my school is doing a production of newsies, i play Davey and my friend plays Jack

so we were running lines in our auditorium during break and our director/choreographer was there as well, i’ll call him Mr. A (that sounds so formal help) (along with some other classmates, but most of them were outside hanging out)

so anyways my friend forgets part of his line and goes “Ain’t reporters supposed to be non-parmesan”

and i’m laughing and go “partisan?”

and then we just continues normally, but then mr. a is like “do you guys want to add that diologue in?”

and that’s how we added a few lines of dialogue into our show

the official new lines are:

JACK: Ain’t reporters supposed to be non-parmesan?

DAVEY: Non-partisan?

JACK: Ain’t that what I said?

*scene continues normally*

just finished re-reading catching fire and getting little hints of what’s to come in sunrise on the reaping makes me feel so SICKDHDJD!! because what do you mean haymitch and mrs. everdeen are just causally talking about how their used to be brutal whippings all the time in the square???? mrs. everdeen looking at haymitch and saying, “is it starting again?” and he’s just like “yup!” and don’t even get me started on canary’s and ‘dead songbirds’ OH GUYS WE ARE SO COOKED FOR SOTR

She only starts to interact with Katniss and Peeta more after the parade. They look good therefore they make Effie look good.

Doesn't she say something along the lines of maybe finally moving up to a "better" district? Haymitch def hates that, it's clear that he does

hot take: effie would not have wished haymitch a happy birthday. in fact, hayffie would not have worked at all!

first off, the cultural differences between haymitch and effie would have a huge impact on their relationship. throughout their upbringings, prejudice was ingrained into them. if katniss dislikes the capitol so much, readers can assume that the divide between the districts and the capitol was worse when haymitch was a teenager. if this was normalized, expected even, it would take SO MUCH for haymitch to work through his implicit bias.

effie is definitely not exempt from that either. her prejudice is extremely apparent when interacting with or speaking about the districts. some interesting effie quotes include:

“The pair last year ate everything with their hands like a couple of savages” (The Hunger Games 44).

“How you’ve both successfully struggled to overcome the barbarism of your district” (The Hunger Games 74).

effie’s implicit bias prevents her from fully empathizing with haymitch’s experience in the hunger games and growing up in the districts. she views the games the same as other capitol folk—she sees nothing wrong with them! she doesn’t care too much about the district 12 tributes dying or about why there are more name slips than eligible children, she just wants a promotion!!

additionally, haymitch and effie just don’t get along. their personalities clash and they are forced to put up with each other in order to help katniss and peeta. effie is described to be “muttering obscenities under her breath” (The Hunger Games 55) after an interaction with haymitch. another instance details how “Cinna and Portia seem to have a civilizing effect on Haymitch and Effie. At least they’re addressing each other decently” (The Hunger Games 76).

effie wouldn’t wish him a happy birthday, she would steer clear of him! god forbid he tries to embarrass her on stage again. and that’s if she even KNOWS it’s his birthday.

furthermore, it is probable that haymitch still hasn’t healed from his young love. he may still have feelings for her, and even if he doesn’t, their relationship has likely left a lasting impression on him. this could prevent him from entering any relationship. not to mention his substance abuse issues and trauma!

the romanticization of the hunger games needs to be studied. some fans fail to realize that they express behaviors that suzanne collins critiques with her use of the capitol and its people.

It's actually funny how humans decided "fuck living in caves with all these creepy crawlies", got out of caves, built houses that have all the nice parts of a cave without any of the yucky parts, and then all the little bugs and spiders and other creepy crawly creatures that used to also live in caves thought "sweet, new and improved caves" and moved right back in with us.

Ok so anyway it's lily of the valley! I'm pretty sure it's my birth flower which is in May, I might be wrong about that ofc but I love how it droops down like little bells
