Retail/food service/customer service employees sometimes have a moment to chat with their customers, but:

Don’t ask about their schedule

Don’t ask if they’re single

Don’t ask for their full name

Don’t ask where they live

Even if they’re super nice to you

They’re expected to be super nice to EVERYONE

It is part of the job

Please, please, PLEASE don’t ask where they live, it’s CREEPY and TERRIFYING. 

Your patronage does not entitle you to harassment.

Bonus: Retail/food service/customer service employees: Please don’t feel pressured to share that sort of information with a customer. Even if they’re a regular, someone who tips, etc.
