Our Founder, Dr. Mohammed Obaidullah, presented a paper on "Shariah Sandbox for Islamic Fintech Regulation" as a tool to resolve many ethical dilemmas that perhaps are new and unique to the Islamic fintech sector.

As many of us are aware, the new game in the town has led to many market practices, such as, wash trading, scalping, shilling, pump-and-dump, some of which involve issues of ethics and morality, yet are often defended in terms of the fundamental freedom of contracting and wealth creation granted by the Shariah. In the coming days, Dr. Obaidullah intends to continue with a series of dialogues on each of these ethical issues seeking to discern and evaluate any tug-of-war between concerns of efficiency and ethics from a Shariah perspective. The United Nations Climate Change Conference of November 2021, known as COP26, in Glasgow, Scotland urged the world to commit to curbing contributions to carbon emissions. Achieving a net-zero world in less than 30 years is causing many to turn to blockchain technology, buy carbon offsets, and spark renewed interest in carbon capture. The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has identified transparency, clean energy, carbon markets and climate finance as areas where blockchain technology can accelerate climate action. At the 2017 Paris Summit, the UN Climate Change Secretariat joined a multi-stakeholder group of organizations to establish an open global initiative, the Climate Chain Coalition, signaling its early support for blockchain for the climate. Currently it has 346 organizations as members and four international agencies - WB, UNFCCC, UNDP, UNEP - as observers and supporters. IBF Net Group is currently engaged in developing a platform - Confluence - that allows impact management from the standpoint of both the SDGs and the goals of the Shariah. More specifically, it facilitates (i) impact rating of a project; (ii) measurement and conversion of impact into "impact cryptos" using Algorand blockchain technology and (iii) exchange of impact cryptos among stakeholders. Presently, the services are targeted at the members of the IBF Network at https://www.ibfnet.group We look forward to collaborative work in fine tuning the impact metrics and expansion of the community to participate in a vibrant Impact Exchange platform. IBF Net Launches Its ePublication Program with Al-Quran Translation NFT The Indian coastal state of Odisha has a sizeable Muslim population today making up roughly 2.2% of the total population of about 50 million. A large section among Odisha's Muslims communicate in the Odia language. There has always been a dire need among these Muslims for Islamic education in Odia. Most of them do not understand the Quran that they read everyday. A couple of translation works undertaken decades earlier have practically disappeared from the scene and are not accessible anymore. Shakeel Ahmed, a retired government servant from Odisha founded Iqra Research Academy several years back to produce Islamic education materials in the Odia language with its most ambitious project being the translation of the Holy Quran into Odia and distribution of the same as widely as possible among Muslims and non-Muslims in the state. This magnificent project was completed in 2021. IBF Net is pleased to host this translation of the Holy Quran on its Affluence platform in the form of an NFT. - NFT on the blockchain will ensure the immutability and originality of the translated work. - Smart contracts would automatically transfer all contributions by buyers to further empower Iqra Academy to keep producing more works. - The work can be verified and traced back to Shakeel Ahmed for due recognition and feedback of his work. - We hope to enhance the outreach of this work by making it available in new markets, especially among the tech-savvy younger generation of the Odias.
