the type of people the world gives you -
light:
glows when they talk, dewy eyes, radiates with a blessing from the sun, calm in the air and goodness in their hearts
ocean:
bodies full of stories, a will that ebbs and flows, lazy smiles, no real devotion to anything but existence itself, wordless lullabies
earth:
minds like caverns, hands like stone, to hold or to hurt, heavy irises, earthquake tempers, stubborn desire for constant reconstruction
poison:
an inexplicable sense of sharpness, hot tears, decaying cores, irreversible tornadoes and infectious whispers

Sally stood, leaning against the doorframe of the apartment she shared with her brother (who was, thankfully, off with Dr. Montgomery on an expedition) and waiting. She reopened the latest letter and read it again, the smile firmly on her face as she read. At the sound of the footfalls, her smile faded and she looked up from the note. She raised an eyebrow as she saw him. At first, she wasn’t sure if this was still the one from before or was it someone else. Then he spoke and she knew it was still the author of the letters.
“I wouldn’t exactly say shady, maybe just a little odd. But to my neighbors, it’s nothing too out of the ordinary, since my brother is a filmmaker and props and costumes get stored here when he’s in production. Some very strange things have come through our door.” She chuckled slightly as she refolded the letter and pushed herself off the doorframe again. “Well, whichever reason, I’m glad to finally know your name. It’s very nice to finally meet you …and, please, call me Sally.” A smile spread across her face.
“I’m very happy to know your name, as I’ve been waiting to thank you properly. Thank you for the letters, Millard. I’ve been looking forward to them every day. But, I still have to ask…” her smile faded a bit and her head tilted to one side and her brow creased slightly as she continued, “Did you mean what you wrote or were you playing a joke on me? I have to ask because…I’ve never gotten letters like these before…and no one’s said such things to me. Please forgive me for being skeptical but…I want to know before our conversation continues any further.”
“Yes, I’m actually quite familiar with your brother’s work. Big fan of his. Oh -- not that that’s the reason for any of this, don’t misunderstand,” he added quickly, gloved hands clasping together and wringing themselves. “Sally, then.” He was beaming under the scarf, and probably blushing, too.
Head tilted, hands released each other and presented themselves palm-up. “Of course I meant it, such an elaborate joke would be cruel. Admittedly it’s not my best work - since I haven’t yet talked to you most of the writing is, well...your appearance, your aura, the little behaviors and quirks I thought were charming. One’s actions speak volumes, but I didn’t want to come off as intrusive and delve too deeply. I assure you, my interests aren’t just superficial.” Millard fell silent, shoving his hands in his pockets and dipping his head down, as if trying to peer at her past the sunglasses.

“Of course they’re burns, but that’s not to say whatever it was wasn’t trying to eat you.” Shoulders hunch briefly in a shrug, but the movement is awkward, bigger than it needs to be, perhaps so it can still register through all the layers of clothing.
“No scarring - well, nothing particularly      notable. It’s far more likely that I’m just      hideous. Either way, it’s to keep from      frightening anyone - with my ugliness,      of course. More importantly--      was I wrong, then? In assuming you were      special, able to do things no one else can.”

what would actually happen if millard got shot? sorry for the feelings, but now i am curious af.
Millard has been shot in canon, near the end of the first book. Unfortunately I don’t have the book on hand to copy the passage from - essentially he went in thinking he was the only one for the job, but he was spotted and shot in the arm. It mentioned his blood flowing over his chest and having to wash it off, which proves that his body fluids are visible, along with, presumably, any excrement, and his skin keeps his innards invisible.
At another point in the sequel, they meet a young peculiar who’s in the middle of becoming invisible, and they also get a brief chance to see his organs - it looked like he had been cut in half.
BASICALLY, it seems like peculiar invisibility is only skin deep (ha) but it’s still unclear how deep into the skin, but everything inside the skin is also hidden in this invisible shell.
