Work in progress piece of a larger project :] Don't mind the reaper, he's a stand in until I model the actual monster, I just really wanted to animate this hunter section

Hello! I was looking at your 3d model animations and was wondering how you did the face animations for the smaller models?
like what did you do to make the mouths move and make them look textured on?
hello! The older models i used to use this method i found in a youtube video! Link to the video
It's handy, but typing out the variables got a bit tedious so I've sinced switched to the same method I use for the new model's eyes! For reference, in case you've not seen that post where I covered it

hello !! i was showing off your etho model to a friend in class and now we're both wondering how you make your blockbench model animations so snappy??? like we've both tried everything to unsmoothem them but can't figure it out !!
hi!! I don't really do anything too special, just animate with stepped frames rather than the default smooth ones. Focusing on pose to pose animation as well rather than straight ahead can also be handy if you want to emphasize key poses more

Okay, I have been mildly obsessed with your 3d work and analyzing your Etho model for the past week or so for my own work. I have exhausted all the information I could gather from what you have posted and still have more questions that could feasibly be asked or answered in text form. Do you upload your models anywhere so that I can, much like Frankenstein, pour all of my attention into my research and end up with my own little guy? I promise I will not run away in terror from what I have created.
Funny you mention that actually... I've finally uploaded some of my main files to DropBox!
Do note, while I am fine with you all analyzing/tearing apart these models to learn more; PLEASE don't claim any of them as your own.
(Also these will be in the .bbmodel format because i am lazy, so they will only be compatible with Blockbench.)

hiiya, absolutely love ur blockbench stuff! n_n was wondering if you could give a rundown on how you modelled ethos eyes in his new model? they look soo cool n id love to try it out on my own models :3c
oooh absolutely! this one's a fun trick :] (long post due to images)
so in short, I use a paper cutout sorta method!
Tumblr media
^ That is what the eyes look like with exaggerated spacing, normally they look like this:
Tumblr media
(with plane spacing set to around 0.1 to minimize a seperated look from the side, while allowing overlapping without z-fighting) I also have different eye "bases" that I use for drastic expression changes (any minor ones can be achieved by messing with scaling in animation, like squash and stretch!)
Tumblr media
When actually animating it, they're laid out like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(left is what it looks like normally, right is during active animation, achieved by hiding the unused eyes within the skull) And this is the folder layout I use to allow for iris/eyebrow movement!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for actually constructing the eyes, it's pretty simple: -I start with a plane or single vertices, then "draw" out the shape of the eye I want (similar to my hair shaping method, just on a 2D scale) -I use simple 1x1 pixel UVs for the color, since there's no reason to go crazy with shading/texturing here -The eyelids are pretty important imo! It helps with hiding the pupil when looking at the sides of the eyes
Tumblr media
(with no top eyelid for example) -I also personally keep the pupil and iris as separated parts to allow for easier color adjustment and dilated eye shaping :]
Hope this is helpful! ^-^

Do you make speedpaints or videos showing your progress? 👀 it would be cool to follow along!!
ohh you know, i tested the waters with that a few years back, It’d definitely be fun to do again!
I do actually have a youtube channel i use for casual posting, though it’s mostly old animation WIPs right now, you can find it under the same username :]

Little mini thing but I was testing out the shading in blender to (hopefully) add some lighting in future animations :]

What devices do you use Low Poly on? I want to try it out!:D
Also, does stuff cost money on it or not? I try to watch out for that stuff because I can't afford it.
hihi!!! I use the PC version of blockbench! It's a free program that imo is pretty easy to learn, I super recommend it :]

hello !!! I've been trying to 'upgrade' a model of mine and something ive been trying to do is make it look smoother when limbs bend (so theres no weird gaps) and so I have come to humbly ask how you did the new etho's elbows if you don't mind sharing?? (love your work btw, your hair advice you gave me ages ago has been really helpful and i still use it :3)
oh for sure!! (bit of a long post incoming due to the pictures) I did a simple ball joint for the elbows, here's what his arm looks like separated!
Tumblr media
I also make sure the elbow is a part of the forearm, attaching the pivot in roughly the middle, that way the shading stays relatively consistent! (though that's a personal preference)
Tumblr media
Honestly a good real world reference i subconsciously use is those little wooden armature dudes, they're a good reference for segmented joints!
Tumblr media
Hope this is helpful!! :]
