Lanes...Pick ONE!!!
Lanes...Pick ONE!!! #LiveLoveTeachTravel #MyLife #ExpatLife
So I just had a run-in conversation with someone.  This someone is TELLING me what I need to be doing within a certain position that I have at the moment. I’m sitting and looking.  Looking and sitting. In my mind I am going off, but I can’t do this in real life because
There’s another person sitting in the room at the moment
I’m really trying to work on my professional skills
I didn’t come back…

Adulting 101 - How Am I Surviving?!
Adulting 101 - How Am I Surviving?! #Adulting #LifeChoices #Life #GrowingUp
The thoughts written in the post are of my own growing adult mind.
For the past month I’ve been going to bed with a LOT on my mind.  Sometimes I wake up with peace and the other times I get to work just tired.
I’m right now talking with my friend Jai and she just said something that is breaking me to core.
Being a strong black woman is overrated.
I’m tired of being strong all the damn time and…

So Spring Break just ended….nope that junt ended almost two weeks ago.  I’m now having withdraws.
I will say this, my Spring Break was quite exciting.  I went to two different places for the 11 days of Spring Break: Egypt and Ghana.  In this post I will discuss my trip to Egypt and also share the information for the Airbnb and tours.
So we (Kisha M., Kisha S. and myself) left Abuja and headed for Egypt.  Kisha S. decided to leave before Kisha M. and me and spent an extra day in Cairo.
Day 1: Arrival
Welcome got a warm welcome to Egypt! Begin that we all have a US passports we were able to do visas on arrival.  This process went very fast.  You can obtain an Egypt visa on arrival at the Cairo International airport at the bank kiosks before the immigration counters for $25 USD and are valid for visits up to 30 days. When landing at the airport went to the visa on arrival window BEFORE getting in the queue for immigration. We gave them $25 (USD ONLY!!) and they got  a visa on arrival sticker.  Funny thing is that I didn’t realize that it was a sticker to place ON a black page in my passport, so while in queue I was just holding it.
While in queue, a representative from the tour company (Habibi Tours) came and helped us with the rest of the immigration process. Having him there made this process a LOT smoother.
From the airport you will be transferred by a private car to our Airbnb. So when we got to the Airbnb I was pleasantly surprised.  Honestly, I don’t know what I was expecting, but everything presented was great.

Staying with Walid was great! His place is literally in front of the Giza Pyramids. When you go up to the roof the view is breathtaking! The apartment is huge and spacious with 3 big bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The rooms were clean and the the showers had good water pressure. Walid is also available to take you on tours and show you the real Egypt. For the price you are getting a good deal and I will stay with him again when I return to Egypt. He was kind and made sure my friends and I were okay. He’s a great host! – Kisha M.
My girl Kisha wrote this review and I agree 100%.
Day 2: Giza Pyrmaids, Sakkara and Memphis
So on Day 2 we were picked up at 8:00 am, in front of our Airbnb. Our first stop for the day was a visa to Sakkara. In Sakkara (Saqqara) we visited the Step Pyramid of Zoser, which is the first Pyramid built and it is the world’s oldest stone structure.  It was built for King Djoser of the 3rd Dynasty by the architect and genius Imhotep, who designed it and its surrounding complex to be as grand as it was unique and revolutionary. Imhotep was the first to build stone tombs in honor of the king’s majesty.
Later we drove to Memphis (particularly made me happy because I’m from Memphis, TN), the capital of the ancient kingdom and one of the most important cities throughout the history of ancient Egypt. Here we visited the mostly open-air Memphis Museum and see the fallen statue of Ramses II.
In the afternoon we headed back to the area where our Airbnb was, Giza.  We went to visit the Great Pyramids of Cheops, Chefren and Mycerinus and the enigmatic Sphinx.

Day 3: Departure
Yeah I know our time was short in Egypt, but I couldn’t leave “The Continent” and not take a trip to Egypt. So we were picked up rather early in the morning so that we could go to the Cairo Airport for our early morning flight.
So here’s all the information so you can plan your travel!
Flight: AirEgypt
Accommodations: Apartment with private pyramids view roof – Nazlet El-Semman Tell Walid that Marla sent you!
Tours: Habibi Tours – tell them that Marla sent you
Spring Break: Egypt #ThisIsEgypt #SpringBreak #TravelTheWorld #BlackBlogger #wanderlust So Spring Break just ended....nope that junt ended almost two weeks ago.  I'm now having withdraws.

Spring Break - International Educator Style
#SpringBreak - International Educator Style #InternationalSchool #TeachAbroad #iTeach
Tumblr media
Spring Break noun: spring break; plural noun: spring breaks
a week’s vacation for students in the spring, typically at Easter.
Clearly this definition doe NOT pertain to educators.  When I used to teach stateside my “Spring Break” was similar to that of this video by my fellow educator, Eddie B. Comedy.
For ten years, when I…

It’s not until I left the states that I truly understood the difference that I could make. 📚 Educator: I am able to take what I learned in university and pass along that knowledge in my classroom. I am not JUST the educator but I’m the learner as well. Everyday I learn something new from my students. ✈️ Travel: I always dreamt that I’d travel the world. My Mum had pictures I drew while I was in kindergarten that showed me traveling and living all over the place. However I NEVER thought that THIS would be my life. - As a Black woman I daily confront how the world sees me, and in turn, how I choose to represent myself. Who am I? I realize that when I travel I may not always see others like me and that other may have certain stereotypes in their mind. Me being out here helps to change those. 🌍 This world is an incredible place. I haven’t been many places, but I intend to see and to experience it all. Now I’m no superhero, but I know a few and from them I’m changing my surroundings a bit at a time by... • smiling more • refusing mindless drama • supporting others dreams and causes • by only comparing myself to the person who I was yesterday • by viewing my kindness as a strength and not a weakness 🤔 So how are you changing the world? ... ... . . . . #MissMarlaHunter #LiveLoveTeachTravel #MyLife #LifeOfYes #instagood #positivevibes #happiness #changetheworld #worldviews #TravelLife #blacktravel #JamaicanGirl #lifequotes #winning #travelcaptures #passportheavy #blacknomads #girlsabroad #quotes #roundtheworld #TheBlackExpat #motivation #positivity #dailygoals #onedayatatime #yougogirl #dothedamnthing #thursdaymotivation #ipreview @preview.app (at Wanderlust Wanderland)

As my time here in Nigeria comes to a close I think about all of the foolishness questions and statements I received before moving. 💭 - Are you sure you’re going to be safe? - Why AFRICA?! - Are you going to live in a hut? - What are you going to eat? 💭 Most of these questions and others I didn’t even respond to. Most of the time I just rolled my eyes and walked away. So today let me put on my #teacherhat and learn y’all something today. 💭 1. Africa is NOT a country. So stop talking about it as it’s ONE stand-alone country. It’s a CONTINENT people. 2. The AU (African Union) “recognizes” 54 countries in Africa today. 3. There are 4 dependent territories or Areas of Special Sovereignty not counted in the 54 countries. 4. Nigeria is the largest country in population, having over 180 million people and growing. 💭 Just to remind you: I live in the city of Abuja. Abuja (the capital) is in the country of Nigeria. Nigeria is on the continent of Africa. 💭 So there we have it kids, a very very brief lesson. Also remember when you say “Oh man, I wanna visit Africa!” make sure to research a country first. Because it takes a while and some money to visit the entire continent on one visit. Also, others can recommend great spots when you say, “ Yeah so I’m going to ____ (fill the blank with a COUNTRY)!” ... ... . . . . . . . . . . #MissMarlaHunter #Nigeria #MyLife #inspireothers #CauseImBlackYall #weekendvibes #blacktravel #WakandaForever #TravelLife #AfricaIsNotACountry #LiveLoveTeachTravel #Abuja #NigeriaLiving #ThisIsAfrica #ILoveAfrica #teachingabroad #hbcutravel #jetsettingchicks #JamaicanGirl #cocoatravelersintl #blacktravelfeed #teachersofinstagram #sheisnotlost #ipreview @preview.app
