After graduation

At the beginning, I never believe this would be happened. You never know the ending, that’s why you should jump into it, drive on it, and be passion. I experienced failed steps multiple times, so hard to accept it at the very first time.  I learned that we probably didn’t know what people have been doing in the past to achieve those things, what are they pray for every day, what are they cry of in the middle of the night, and what are they get support from. These things sometimes blurry to those who did not understand. I thank God to make it happened in my life. It is not the end, another big stone still need to be tamed. You will never walk alone :)

[ WOWKOREA Safe Stay Supporters]-The Jindo Hanok Pension, Goodstay, South Korea

South Korea nowadays popular with KPOP music, Korean drama, and other tourism spot which offering a lot of culture beauty.  Regarding of this phenomenon, knowledge of house of stay became a prior to traveler like me. If I were a first time traveler even secondly, etc visitor in South Korea, I would like to try different house of stay during my travelling journey. 

This Jindo Hanok Pension called Goodstay (진도한옥펜션 [우수숙박시설 굿스테이]) would be my choice. 

This is one of my bucket list in experiencing South Korea. Look, by choosing Jindo Hanok Pension where is located in Jindo County, I can experience both culture and nature. Duo combination, spectacular!

Hanok is Korean traditional house. It has korean architecture and the interior inside are designed accordingly to fit all kind of season. This principle is called Baesanimsu (Korean: 배산임수; Hanja:背山臨水), literally meaning that the ideal house is built with a mountain in the back and a river in the front. Baesanimsu utilizes the ondol heated rock system, a heating system unique to South Korea, during cold winters and a wide daecheong (대청) front porch for keeping the house cool during hot summers. (Source: Wikipedia). Amazing, right!

Besides that, for travelers who is like me, not too much fond with crowded tourism and top visit tourism, this is must to be your choice! You will experience Korea differently. Right in front of the Jindo Hanok Pension, you will see  blue South Sea and the pleasant and relaxing sound of the waves from the front garden.

Around this Jindo Hanok Pension, there is other tourism places which is also full of attraction, such as Jindo Mysterious Sea Route (진도 신비의 바닷길), Jangjeon Art Museum (Formerly, Namjin Art Museum) (장전미술관 (구, 남진미술관)). I believe, this experience will become my unforgettable moment in South Korea. :)

Be Different As Much As Positive Mind You Have Got, Make a Difference 2014

Being able to interact with international atmosphere,  I think it’s one of my dream i wanna grab. Here,  I have an opportunity to build courage of myself. Make a Difference 2014 is the first international event that I joined and really excited for. MaD is a regional platforms and connects different sectors to support changemakers and create a more humanistic and sustainable community. Conducted in Hong Kong particulary in Kwai Tsing Theatre, would be one reason why youth participant from around the world  involved to create positive personal, economic, environment and social changes beside their own motivation to become impactmaker.

MaD explores creativity, discovery (personal potential, social issues, global trends), impact (social innovation, entrepreneurial ventures, personal change).

Now MaD took “The Fifth Direction” as big theme in 2014 which means a metaphor for the exploration of what envision as better ways forward- how do we transcend the existing cardinal points and depart from where we are, where we heading to, how we get there. That’s the point!

Okay let’s starts. January 10th 2014, First come-first-served  is the way they handle the over-demand (1500 participants are rush around!). After doing registration as Asian Subsidy Scheme Participant (AS), I was equipped  by explanation MaD 2014’s book, Time-Table of programme which is bundled in cute goodie bag, and pass number. What a lucky!

We’re getting know each others with participants along the way we stand in line to Auditorium for Opening Session of MaD 2014. We, Indonesian Participant  (Nova, Sifa, Desty, Fanbul, Risa, Ade, Manika, etc) did many photo session with tongsis (tongkat narsis), others are felt  really amazed and weird but in the end they’re joined with us because of our energetic shout to attract them. Ha-ha, tongsis, you are world-famous right know, thank you for Fanbul, bring such a usefull and unique device.

In Auditorium, we are showed by amazing theatrical performances, that give  illustration about how youth can make different no matter what condition you had, you might have to face much tears, tired, and  conflict, but in the end youth involved together to make impact. You can do it!

After that, we got explanation how to use container for exchanging class session where we passionate about. Container? Yes! In the next day, we’ll get random container ( there’re five items of containers available), each of container has their own class or excursion session, be aware and precise about what session you really want to attend. Just be carefull, do not break a glass container. Oops I made one! He-he (but I really thankful for that, see another story about that). Ohh, Don’t worry, there’s space after or before new programme/session.  This free time is located for  sharing or lunch with other participants, so use wisely. Really structured!

The nexy day, January 11th 2014,  it really full activity but fun. I join Polylogue : Spring term Elementary Learning in Auditorium.  As my report, I will make a summary what contain about, to make easy and simple ways to learn, I did a point by point.

Speaker: Finn B Niels

Finn explained how to do creativity in school, and make untamed creativity. The aim of what teacher do is make  student can do something surprise not to dictate them. That’s the point!, and then creativity  really  help what teacher want to. What a must teacher have is willingness and compassion.

Between school and creativity somehow contradiction in our general education. I got meaning of creativity from this speaker which is stated: going far away to found new one. Great! And in the other hand  the meaning of school: duty to screw up (ha-ha: p)

What you have to do as we have passion about being teacher or creativity -minded is : You should go or challenges, Learn to say yes to other people ideas, maybe hard. J

You also have to see what student looking by their ways so teacher/coach can help them to make better promising ideas. That’s a real meaning of teach, I admit it!

In this session I also got, how experience of tastes making a story that change different platform -could be drawing, visual design, movement-

Students can deal with their live is one of the purpose what teacher do.

Village/Suburb teachers are important to developing brain in rural area (China)

The important things on LEARN is talking to ordinary people

Rural urban areas are need education and health concern about

Education means helping view advance

Many people outside are Studying but  No Skill after completing their study

Diane do educate people in rural China to Improve their own live and communities and then they can prepare education for student in rural China.

Kind of ways to educate student :

v  Teacher must picking the topics (example: Harvesting potatoes (Student have to dig up), to roast, write down the step of process, making noodles (weigh and grain) from starch, write a recipe and sharing it with rural people). So it sharpen students skills also right!

v  Sweet potatoes (observatory and analysis), making incubator for seedling, cultivate and grow sweet potatoes.  On that ways, kids/student can using house hold that will build important life skill.

Every student are different, they have their own need.

What could student to change mindset of parent to cooperate for changing, that currently between student and parent  cant separate?

Build parent guide, doing some project with parent.

Okay, next session I choose outdoor class, yes, excursion!

Excursion: Road to Tectonics: Drifting in Steps

I and my groups J2, spend 2 hours walking on a designated routed in Central, we explore the heart of Hong Kong differently and collect discoveries for your own understanding of Road Tectonics. We have to answer the question that given by volunteer and also written down stories we had into pathway board made. Before we stated to discover stories, we got briefing first in Auditorium. I will shared what kind of stories that may help you to become story telling.

Two types of  stories”:

-          Mundabe and ordinary discoveries that enchant you: the artis in you

-          Features of the built environment

-          Human and non-human behaviours

-          Words, signs and symbols

-          Sounds, smells, sights, lights, and shadow: open up your senses

-          Be an ultra sensitive urban ethnographer

Stories and meanings generated by conversations : the street social scientist’ in you

-          Let abandon Google and Wikipedia for 2 hours

-          “Taxi Drivers’

-          Informal research and interviews

We, J2, explore many thing in Central, we walking down from Central MTR Station to Theatre Lane, Queens’s Road Central, Pottinger Street, Des Veoux Road Central, Queen Victoria Street, Queen’s Road Central, Gutzalff Street, Wellington Street, Graham Street, Gage Road, Peel Street, Staunton Street and Aberden Street, End point in Wellcome Supermarket: 99 Caine road. We got free-drink there!

Along the way, we take a photos what we feel that unique and rarely, also do interviews sellers and local there. We found young singer and his guitarist who are first time sing at that road, we interviewed them and sing along together. We sang  a song which is one of backsound of ‘Glee’ film. I love it.

Wena from HK, Tiffany from Macau, and many others, thank you for being my groupmate. You rocks guys J . Actually because wehave to interviewed many local with Cantonese so I don’t really understand, just guess by their gestures but most of all, you are rock! Ha-ha. I and my friends came back home to Tsing YI with many story spoken along the way.

The last day, January 12th 2014, I got involved in the ripple forum.

Ripple Forum

I joined Ripple Forum for the last day, The ripple forum is media discussion, which is more interactive and we can share what project we had and asking each other.  The speaker is Dian Herdiany , film-maker from Indonesia, and Tetsuo Ogawa which concern about homeless people particularly in Japan. We chit-chat together, sometimes use Bahasa because Dian Herdiany is speaker from Indonesia, but right after that we (Indonesia participant) have to translated in English, so the others could understand. Dian with her project Kampung Halaman Foundation, through photos and videos, young people are empowered to state their voices abouth youth problem and ideas. Great!

For Asian Participant Subsidy Scheme, we go in line to get reimbursement, we have to collected airfare, accommodation paper transaction to get subsidy amount in US Dollar cash in Green Room. We are free being here, so thank you MaD 2014.

Building Pyramids-Finding Ideas

The last class, I attend before Closing Ceremony is Building Pyramids-Finding Ideas by Phonchan (Newey) KRAWATNUTSORN. Lovely speaker, She often used  “oki dokii” for say Yes or Okay. She turned into my seat  before the class begin, we make a short conversation about Thailand and she asked about the excursion yesterday.

Okay,in dance class, we doing some illustration for asking question, if said yes, we have to move to “correct sign” and in the other hand if said no, just moved to “cross sign”. Many question are flooring into class, we moved fast. Fun interaction!

After that we divided into some group which will discuss about one theme.  I chose “happiness group” to come in. Yes, ofcourse we discussed about happiness in youth of each country. Another theme are environment, relationship, social (not remember then). Friends of mine on this group really much comfortable spoke in Cantonese so my another friends in group help me to undertand what everyone said in English. Thank a bunch girl J , sorry forgot your name, but I will emailed you soon everyone in Happiness Group! We write down the problem into small paper which each layer has the same colour and build pyramid 2D and every next layer has  to be more specific and  the conclusion is on the peak.

We talked about common youth problem in their country, and the first speaker is ME. What a shock! I share about Indonesia youth problem is love confusion and not many youth who chase their passion. They clap together each  after everyone spoke. Cool! From Macau friend, I knew about how youth there are fighting for their financial and insist their faith because of many casino developed there,  youth in Macau always considerate to work in casino which will earn money two even three times higher than bachelor degree salary standard. She has spirit to hold her job as secretary rather than work in casino. She believe youth are precious.  After tricky discussion, we decided to use one problem to solve and writedown solutions on the peak of pyramids.

What a lucky in the end of class, foreign participant was given Hong Kong postcard which will sent to their country, free!  I write down, what I get from this class as a reminder for myself and encourage me in the future. Now, I am waiting for that postcard!

Okay, we come back to Auditorium, for Closing Ceremony, because of  forgot to rent  simultaneous interpretation media (translator media), I cant understand what Cantonese speaker said about Citizenship. Well, actually I enjoyed so much and get inspired to do more positive things in my daily life, much spirit that have given, new networking, new friends and amazing experience.

From this report, I hope youth generation especially my beloved country Indonesia, you are really worthed, do your step, and never be in your comfort zone, do what you passionate about. I saw many youth build their own project and success. If you work in company, make your workplace happy by doing regular yoga to improving work  environment or inviting spiritual person to busy staff (Happy workplace international project). Basicly, being Madees is amazing, wish I could attend each of class J.
