Somewhere Between Worlds.
A tribute to two souls whose stories meant a lot to me, painted over a sleepless week to assuage my ragged, aching heart:P

The downfall of Star Wars rests with producers at Disney who somehow convinced themselves (and us) that a blockbuster trilogy didn’t need the presence of any kind of overarching narrative architect to ensure at least a modicum of tonal or philosophical consistency. It was an act of pure hubris—a supremely corporate, unearned sense of confidence that IP and branding mattered far more than a carefully planned story. In the end, “trilogy” isn’t even the right word, because it implies the existence of three films that fit together in a planned, form-fitting way, as three chapters of a single story. These films? They aren’t a trilogy. They’re more like direct rebukes of each other.

Note
Rey taking Ben's things through the course of the trilogy reads differently now. :///
It SURE DOES
Remember when Star Wars said if you have a “bad seed” kid you should just replace him with a better, “naturally good” kid, to the point where even the “bad” kid agrees with that fuckery, erases himself for her. And the “good, deserving” kid taking over the “bad” kid’s legacy like a damn cucko bird is framed like a HAPPY ENDING and not a fucking horror show
The reason why she had all his family’s shit is because they were supposed to get married, you bastards, not because she was a better, more adoptable child!!! She was a fucking grown woman, she didn’t need to be adopted!!!!

Did Chris really just admit that the best bits of Ben’s characterization in TROS – literally some of the only highlights in the entire movie – came from nothing but Adam himself?? And meanwhile these clowns who get paid milions to write a script didn’t even bother to give him any lines in the second half of the film????
Speechless rn.

I will never not be bitter about Disney not ensuring that this trilogy had a cohesive and agreed-upon storyline before beginning filming. It could have been so good. I don’t care what camp you fall into, I think it could’ve been better if it KNEW the story it was telling.
Instead, it bickered with itself, films undermined each other, and it was incoherent. There were so many good moments or ideas that weren’t developed or played out (or they were retconned).
Tumblr media
I feel like TRoS tried to appease the fans who hated TLJ, but I think there were cleverer ways to address some of those concerns, complete the saga, uphold the themes from the other two films, and continue the character arcs than what we got. I was constantly pulled out of the film because I couldn’t suspend my disbelief any further (which is saying something when it’s a space opera and I’ve had no issue with that in any other episodes of the saga).
I almost hate to complain because I think Disney caring too much about Star Wars The Cash Cow and listening to fans and trying to appeal to majority is what made this storytelling weak and cowardly.
Tumblr media
Yes, it’s great to listen to fans, but at the end of the day the creative team has to believe in their story and bravely tell it. But first, they have to know what that story is.
It could have been so good.

100% agree!
Reasons to believe that Ben is dead: -His body disappeared
Reasons to believe that Ben was transported to the World Between Worlds and is coming back: -No Force ghost -Everything with Leia and Maz: Maz said it would take all of Leia’s strength to do what she had to do next, Leia knew Ben was going to die, Leia’s body disappears at the exact same moment as Ben’s even though she died earlier, Maz smiles -The Visual Dictionary established that Exegol is linked to the World Between Worlds -The fissures on Exegol have a transportative vergence: a high concentration of the Force -Ahch-To, where Rey saw Ben’s silhouette behind the mirror, is also linked to the WBW -Rey’s Jedi texts contain information about the WBW -The voices in the Rebels WBW episode include the following: Rey saying “we’ll see each other again, I believe that.” Ben saying, “Show me grandfather and I will finish what you started.” and Maz saying “the belonging you seek is not behind you.” -Rey looking up at the stars on Exegol and hearing voices is extremely similar to Ezra being surrounded by stars and hearing voices in the WBW. Direct parallels were drawn here. -Ahsoka was one of the voices speaking to Rey even though she’s not a Force ghost. But since Exegol is connected to the WBW this makes sense. -It’s likely Palps was able to come back because of Exegol being connected to the WBW -Speaking of which, Star Wars has a habit of bringing back “dead” characters -The WBW is a collection of doorways and paths that exist between time and space. The prophesized “dyad” connects two individuals across space and time. -A dyad is something incredibly rare and powerful - it hasn’t been seen for generations. You don’t set this up just to go nowhere with it. There is crazy opportunity here for future stories with these two and what they can do with the Force. -“Stand together, die together.” “The lifeforce of your bond. A dyad in the Force. A power like life itself. Unseen for generations.” This entire speech is about the two of them together, alive or dead, and the power of life that their bond is. -The story is continuing on. Kathleen Kennedy literally said that they’re not abandoning the characters created in the most recent trilogy -The setup for the new story is obvious. Besides needing to get Ben back and him and Rey being a dyad, we have Finn being Force sensitive, something he kept wanting to tell Rey but never got around to doing. We have Rey with a new lightsaber. We even have Lando asking Jannah where she’s from and when she said she didn’t know, he said to her “let’s find out”. -At the TROS premiere Kathleen Kennedy also said this: “We’re completing the saga. We’re not finishing the Skywalkers necessarily. They can always, in one way or another, reappear. For right now it is bringing it to a close.“ -Matt Martin gave us this hint: “We’ve seen characters come back before so it’s always comes down to the story being told.” -Dave Filoni, who would know how upset we all are, gave us a lovely Christmas present of Gandalf talking to Ahsoka saying “People thought I was dead too. Look how that turned out
” -Star Wars knows that Ben is their most popular character. I mean he’s winning the poll on their website by around 86-90%. The next highest is Rey at 3%. They can’t possibly be that stupid. Keeping Ben around equals money for Disney, and Disney definitely wants money.
Haven’t we always been right before, about basically everything in this story? Ben being redeemed. Reylo. Them having a Force bond. Ben not slaughtering the students at the Jedi temple. Snoke lying about creating the Force bond and it happening during the interrogation scene. Palpatine speaking through the Vader mask. Star Wars has lied to us about many things before, but they always leave in enough clues. They give you enough information that if you want to figure things out, you can, and as a group we’ve always been the ones to understand these clues.
Also one last thing: didn’t we predict before this movie that Ben would die and be brought back? We literally saw this coming. The one thing we didn’t realize was that this wasn’t the end of the story and that it’s still continuing on. And Star Wars, being extremely evil, just happened to cut off before the resurrection part.

What if..
And I know it’s a long shot (and I’ve had a glass of wine) BUT. What if the reason they changed the ending was that they realized almost in the eleventh hour that they had something huuuuge on their hands. So huge, in fact, that it threatened to overshadow everything in the Galaxy far far away; even to the detriment (in some eyes) of the saga as a whole: REYLO. They *had* planned to end the movie with a happily ever after if we’re to believe the rumors. But the epicness of Rey and Ben, and Daisy and Adam’s magnetic on-screen chemistry, would be an opportunity too good to miss. So they would have asked very nicely* (*đŸ’”đŸ’”đŸ’”) if both would be willing to come back to continue their story. And if they said yes, in would make sense (in a marketing sense. NOT in a satisfying ending of the Skywalker Saga sense, but hey it’s Disney) to leave their love.. unconsummated. Then they rushed through the making of TROS, peppering it with nostalgia to appease the fanbros and thrill the general audience. “DONE AND DONE. Now. Where were we?” (jk or am i)
I‘m aware of how everyone is saying that there isn’t going to be any more with the characters from the sequel, but Ewan McGregor had to keep his mouth zipped for sooo long before he got to say they were making a movie about Obi-Wan..
Hey I know I’m just torturing myself. But a woman can dream, can’t she?
