All these meta posts and in-depth analysis trying to pinpoint and describe exactly what it is about this season that makes it less enjoyable than the previous ones, but you know what? I'm going to be the brave one here and just say it: I don't like this season because I don't like Ismail. There.
Of course no main is perfect, and some are more "problematic" (*shivers*) than others, but I feel like at the end of the day you're at least supposed to somewhat agree with your protagonist so you can root for them. And so far this season hasn't given me any reason to even like Ismail. They're a bad friend, a hypocrite, unreliable, and they continuously shift blame and refuse to take responsibility for their actions.
Yes, they're struggling with gender identity and transphobia/homophobia (relatable) but is that the only reason we're supposed to root for them? Because they're having a hard time? Queer people struggle every day, some more than others – that's true, but your struggles don't give you a free pass to act shitty towards everyone, especially since the people Isi is mistreating and snapping at are their supposed friends and the people who have been nothing but supportive of them.
There are now direct parallels between the way Isi has treated their friends and the way Constantin has treated them. And I want to believe that this is intentional but the issue is the writers keep using fan-favorite characters like Kieu My, Nora, and even Ava/Sascha/Fatou to make Ismail appear more sympathetic, all the while refusing to have Ismail face any actual consequences for their actions. Kieu My snaps at Ismail for ditching his responsibilities (rightfully so) and we immediately get a chat where she's the one being apologetic. Okay. And I know I'm not the only one who's extremely bothered that Ava (and Nora for that matter) seem so chummy with Ismail when their past bullying of the girls has more-or-less been brushed over with a single apology (or no apology at all in Nora's case). It's exhausting to watch and it makes me doubt the writers' intentions for where the season is headed.
Anyway. I hope the season is leading to Isi finally being held accountable for all their bullshit and them realizing they're not much better than Constantin (who they love to blame for all their problems), so they can actively start making an effort to be a better friend/person and communicate their struggles instead of just snapping at people. I'm not holding my breath tho.

You know, I really think people wouldn’t have a problem with Lou if we weren’t forced into that fucking love triangle. Like if Lou was there just to help Ismail with their gender exploration just like we originally thought, and we’d be limited to like 1 clip with her per week then I really think we’d love her (well most of us). gnc fat person who doesn’t give a fuck about how she’s perceived and helps Ismail be more okay with their identity? I’d be down.
But because she’s been connected to the already pretty disliked character (constantin) and in a weird love triangle setting nonetheless, and because she was heavily focused in the first 4 episodes people are naturally fed up with it & by extension her
It kind of reminds me S4 of OG skam where every other clip seems to focus on Noora and her relationship with William but even then the ratio of Noora clips was better than the ratio of Lou clips. And speaking of skam og - we hated the bullshit love triangle with Yousef back then too. Just saying. Love triangles are very very VERY rarely a good idea.
Like I want to know what the writers were thinking. I really want to just like sit down with them and be like okay what did you think you will achieve with this? How did you think the fandom is gonna react? Why did you decide to go down this path? Have you seen the previous seasons? Why did you decide to go against what was already established? Just please writers, hit me and let’s talk about this. I seriously honestly just wanna know what happened there.

Interesting to see how the instas portrayed themselves having fun on their IG stories, while in reality there was so much tension in the clip. Just goes to show how social media gives you a false perception of real life

I feel so disconnected from Ismail. I’ve been asking for an Ismail season ever since season 5 but I just don’t understand what’s going on with them at the moment. I’m not sure if we are suppose to feel disconnected from Ismail since they feel disconnected with their friends (and if we are suppose to feel that way, it’s working). I still have zero idea what the season is about. I don’t know what’s going on. It’s only the third week but I normally connect to the main in the first week but I wasn’t connected with Ismail. I feel like I don’t know them. I feel like they’re not the main this season. It feels like everyone else is the main. I don’t know. I’m hoping that later on I feel connected to them and their season because I love Druck. It’s my favorite remake of Skam and I hate to feel disconnected from the season.

not to keep being a dr s5 and s6 stan but one of the issues this season is also how the themes aren’t really developed and deepened properly? like in s5 and 6 the two major themes (mental illness and alcoholic mother, and the love story and learning disability) have been so clearly set up that we could already theorize about them in episode 1, with ismail, well we kind of know they are nb and there have been hints that their brother is being weird about it but it’s not going anywhere, it’s been almost three weeks and “their brother might act weird bc of isi’s gender identity” just isn’t enough for engaging story telling, by week three we knew nora wasn’t doing well mentally and we knew fatou was struggling more than an average teen at school, their second major themes were definitely a lot more fleshed out by this time

it’s hard to really judge how well one clip works without having seen the rest of the season, but i think i like that the apology happened quite early in the season bc 1) even tho it was the bare minimum ava deserved to finally get one and have her hurt acknowledged by ismail and 2) this opens up the opportunity for the rest of the season to show us ismail is actually trying to be better, because we know they’re still guilty of toxic behaviour. an apology is one thing, but there needs to be a real change, too, especially cause we see that ava is once again trying to be ‘the bigger person’ even tho she really doesn’t have to be. gravitating towards lou and kind of ignoring sascha still stems from that same need to be cool and popular, for example

The instas hanging out and posing for pics is cool and all, but I would love to know about the dynamics inside them. What made them come together in the first place? How did Ismail, Constantin and Kieu My become friends? Who’s closer to whom? What about Zoe and Finn? How did they meet the others? How did their relationship start? Etc.
