It’s always the same, Jack pushing and pushing and pushing and Will crumbing a little more every day. They circle each other like dogs; Jack advances and Will growls, snaps, a warning nip - “Keep backing me into a corner and I’ll bite.” Jack doesn’t stop and Will’s threat proves empty as he cowers, shows his belly, a frightened mutt who’s been kicked a dozen times too many.

I'm Phoenix1294 on twitter and my prompt is "Alana's main motivation for revenge is not for herself, but for Beverly." If y'all are not feeling this prompt for any reason, it's cool, no worries.

She told her once, over a beer in a bar so far away and dirty that neither visited it again, that if Alana lost herself in her field - or in any field - Bev would go Old Testament on whoever made that happen.

They laughed then, giggling into their drinks and considering their options within the Old Testament to use, were the situation to arise. Now, Alana watches the trees sway through the windows of the Verger Estate and wonders if Bev had ever, ever considered that the choice would fall to Alana, and not her.

Wound for wound is a little hard to manifest, and life for life is a false equivalence. Alana reaches for her cane. There isn’t enough life left in Hannibal Lecter to make up for the loss of Beverly Katz.

It’ll have to do.
