another underappreciated tumblr feature that you dont get on other sites is the queue. i love it when something i thought was funny six months ago and then forgot about a week later crawlts its way out of the processing vortex and i get to see it all over again.
i was in the grocery store and saw an onion on the ground and picked it up, absently saying “poor little guy.” behind me a teenage girl started laughing and then stopped and went “aww. i’m sorry for laughing. that’s nice actually.” and the cycle of cruelty is broken for another generation as a young person realizes that it is not embarrassing to have empathy for another thing that was once living, because certainly to be a lone white onion rolling on the ground in a supermarket would be terrifying to anyone
adults are always talking about how “kids will do anything to get out of school” and okay, first of all that’s not true, but I think we really need to ask why that idea holds so much sway.
children’s brains are hard-wired to take in new information and acquire new skills. consider, for a moment, just how thoroughly our society had to fuck up the concept of education for it to be a normal thing to assume kids are universally desperate to avoid learning.
We're on a new platform with a totally different audience...we have to prove ourselves all over again...convince a totally new group of people to think we're funny and worth your attention....so allow me to drop some of my "A" material....the funniest thing I got.......here goes.......

He and I play on a lore-heavy SMP together with some friends, and we have left little signs for each other while one is AFK or offline if the other also has to go AFK or is going to grab something from another location. Just a little "hey don't panic when you get back!" sorta gesture.
Some of the signs we have left each other include:
A sign that I originally put down saying something along the lines of "Hi pretty boy, if I'm AFK when you get back, I went to grab my doordash order", and when I returned with my food, the side of the sign facing me said "hi pretty boy, I went to make myself food."
A good morning message on our living room table saying that he was going to the volcano (there was a build he was working on there). He remembered I logged out there, so it was the first thing I saw when I logged on.
Another good morning message, this time in a friend's cabin where we had logged off. His character had fainted the night before, and mine fell asleep looking after him, so when he woke up and hopped on before I did, he left a note so I didn't panic that he wasn't in the cabin anymore.
Many, many signs pointing at the AFK one that just said "<- Gay".
And a bonus related thing:
Many permanent signs on the SMP have had the backs of them vandalized (or plundered, as they usually say) with various pirate-speak phrases by a pirate crew that some players created. It's not just the pirates doing the vandalizing anymore, and it's odd to find a sign that hasn't been edited in this way.
Rant over, I'm gay, silly little notes on signs are great
i love minecraft waiting behaviors. Writing on a sign and you can vaguely see your friend hopping around making spontaneous parkour out of the terrain while they wait for you to finish. writing a message in chat and having the person you’re talking to crouch right in front of you or stand as close to you as possible while they wait for you to finish. Finally finishing writing in a book only to see your friend has made several new furniture pieces and/or surrounded you in a cobblestone cube that may or may not have a sign on it. theres something so charming to it
