Jack chuckled as he spotted Rose, "Hello, beautiful, I was starting to wonder if you got lost," he said, pulling the girl into a hug when she approached. "So, you said you needed my help, and based on our location, I'm guessing Christmas shopping is giving you a bit of trouble," he said. "One thing we still had in my time, Christmas, had some differences, like fruit cake filled with alien eggs, that was a weird delicacy. Didn't taste half-bad, a little unnerving though, when some of them wriggled down your throat."
"But that's beside the point," the immortal said with a light laugh, "Who you having trouble shopping for? Wouldn't happen to be a certain alien turned human, would it?"
Holiday Help || Rose and Jack
The holidays always had been a stressful time for Rose in the past, for the Christmas season had nearly killed her on several accounts, some of them literally. Christmas shopping was not any simpler. She had never really had anybody to shop for but her mother and Mickey, and they were both relatively easy to buy for - make up and maybe a top or two for her mother, chocolates among other foods for Mickey. Needless to say, this year was different. Rose was stranded in a separate dimension from the usual people that required shopping, and she was left with a very different challenge – the Metacrisis Doctor.
What did you get someone who had travelled all time and space, who had seen every single invention the universe had to offer throughout its expansive lifespan? Rose figured chocolates and make-up wouldn’t exactly do the trick, especially considering neither of them were his cup of tea. Speaking of tea, maybe a variety package of tea would work? Rose’s thoughts wander as her feet walk aimlessly throughout the stores scattering the shopping marketplace, and her gaze settles upon Jack. Relief floods her, for before her is standing a man who has experienced something similar to her Doctor. “Hey! Jack!”

Apparently Jack's reputation precedes him, for his Secret Santa gets him a 'Free Hugs' shirt.
Jack grinned, taking a look at the shirt. It's not his typical style, but he quite likes it. "Huh, wonder who it's from?"

"But sometimes you have to treat it that way," Jack said, "You have to treat it like it's a gift because you're stuck with it. Because if you don't treat it that way you just feel like shit and you mope about. You can hate it, you don't have to like it, but you have to at least try to make something of it, rather than giving up. If there's one thing you taught me it's not to give up."
He had lived so many years, so many that he hadn't asked for. Many of them had hurt him, but there had been some, some great years, years that made all the pain almost worth it. He'd tried to enjoy his life, but he understood the Doctor's struggle. It wasn't easy. It was lonely, so lonely, and it made him wonder why they hadn't stayed together. Perhaps because the immortal was a fact, and that repelled the time lord. Being alone must have been better than that.
He jerked up, staring at the Doctor with confusion in his eyes, "Hasn't happened yet," he said, quirking his eyebrows. Then it dawned on him, eyes widened. A time traveler. The Doctor could have seen it, or at least heard about it. "...that's a bit of a relief," he murmured. Normally he'd have added a quip about his good looks, but it felt insincere, so it wouldn't leave his lips.
Tweaked Truths || Ten and Jack
"See!" the Doctor exclaimed, with a laugh. If one had simply been overhearing the conversation at this exact moment, then it would’ve been easy to make the presumption that the man was simply pointing out a simple fact. The sky looks blue, he might’ve said. But it was the furthest that could be from the subject he was speaking of. "You know it just as well as I do, a longer life isn’t a gift.”
Perhaps, once had thought so, but he couldn’t see how he could possibly think it now. Maybe, life for some was a gift. He didn’t think that people deserved to die, that was unreasonable. But a life, like the one he lead, was more pain and misery than he’d ever asked for. He’d said it once to a man, who’d been desperate to live and had altered his own genes to do so. Unwittingly, he’d become that man somewhere along his journey. But a longer life wasn’t always a better one, and it was a fact he’d finally accepted now.
The point was to live your life with the days you had and make the best of those, you didn’t ask for the extra days.  He understood Jack’s point. He really did. But he’d live too many extra days to just be oblivious to the fact that the longer it dragged out, the more pain he’d feel. Not only physically, but emotionally. When you lived, you formed attachments. You cared.
And caring was likely the disadvantage that he had, that he cared when people were suffering, dying. How different would his life have been if he hadn’t tried to go around saving people wherever he went? But it had been his promise, when he’d left Gallifrey.
And the Doctor lied, but he always tried his best to keep to promises that he meant.
"You will die,” he said, without meaning to, again. This speaking the truth thing was becoming a bit ridiculous now, because honestly, if nothing else, he had basic control of what words left his mouth. Clearly, this was not the case today. And if he could simply stop speaking the truth he’d be trying to get to the bottom of it.

"It's no problem, really," Jack told her with a smile, "I mean, I'm guessing you have a good reason for needing to find those two, so I'm all too happy to help," he said. "So, we check out this hotel, and if they're still staying there, we go find them or hang around until they get back," he said.
Flirting With An Angel || Jack and Bridgette
She nodded at him, looking around and picking out little things that probably didn’t have significance but she found interesting.
"Thank you so much." she told the man and began walking out in step with Jack.
"You’re are being very helpful, thank you." she told him again.

Jack watched the Doctor closely, his heart aching at every word. The last time he'd regenerated, he'd left the immortal behind. There had been other reasons, sure, but now would probably be the same. The Doctor would changes faces and disappear, and Jack would be lucky if he ever saw him again. "...if that's the case, all the more reason to enjoy it. To go and see people, to see Rose, Martha, Mickey, go and visit them. If you don't have much time left, enjoy it, Doc, enjoy being this person if you only get to be that way for a little longer."
The next words stung like a slap to the face. It took a moment for him to recover. He gulped, "I didn't ask for this, alright," he snapped, "I was willing to die, for the world, for Rose, for you! I didn't ask to come back to life." The next words came tumbling out, the immortal unable to stop them. "I would have rather died that day rather than live through this hell."
Tweaked Truths || Ten and Jack
The Doctor ran a hand through his hair, causing it to stick up again, even more than it already had. He gave a sigh, and stared at Jack for a few moments before responding again. “Maybe I would’ve before, but it’s not the same this time. I don’t have a choice.”
He looked back at his time machine behind him still withering, before looking back at over at him. “If I leave Jack, it’ll be because I regenerate. Something’s put a hold to my regeneration and left me trapped here. I told you I’m already dead, but I’m living on borrowed time, whoever stuck me here is keeping me here and alive,” he confessed.
He wished that he could just shut his mouth right now, but it didn’t seem to be happening anytime soon. He didn’t want to be telling Jack this. He didn’t want anyone to know this, not really. If there was one thing this regeneration had mastered, it was pretending that things were fine. Somehow this time, it was different.
The comment on their differences did have a bit of a sting to it but the Doctor tried to shake it off. Again, however, his mouth wouldn’t stay shut. “Yes, we’d obviously be different, because I’m fairly sure that you’ve never felt every ounce of you trying to run away because I was a fact.”

Jack nodded his head, eyes skimming over the article. "The picture was taken at a Belford Industries, that's probably where she worked, or at least connected to it." He looked around, "Where are the computers here, I can find more information on the company." He'd just log onto the Torchwood server and do a quick search, no harm done, well, perhaps a bit, but nothing he couldn't deal with. "Maybe I can get a name or a number."
"Shall we look into it than? If you really want to know what happened to her I have a feeling the answers can be found in whatever she was working on." *Maeve turned back to shelf to see if there was anything any else she. It* "It would have been helpful had they mentioned who she working for. Gives you someone to talk to."

Jack rolled his eyes, "Well obviously, you could get seduced by sirens or something, depending on the port, then you wouldn't come back," he said teasingly. "I'd say I'd rescue you, but we both know I'd have some fun with the sirens first," he chuckled. He clapped a hand on John's back, "So, why don't we go back to my ship, have a drink? The crew's handling restocking the ship, we can just relax, take a load off."
He had wanted to explore the land, but now that he'd found John, he was much more interested in spending time with the doctor. He was sure his crew would be groaning and rolling their eyes as soon as they saw the two together. It always meant trouble, in one form or another, and to be honest, Jack quite enjoyed it.
"I offer you a drink in a bar here, but I think it'd be best to avoid the locals after all that running, don't you agree?"
There Are Seven Seas To Sail || Pirate!AU Jack & Ten
John gave him a sympathetic smile. You got so used to travelling, having the sea on either side of you, being on land took a lot of adjusting. Suddenly, the grand adventures and possibilities dwindled. Became more… quaint, as it were.
John had found the whole thing incredibly distressing at first. Being a captain without a crew was about as useful as trying to bargain with the royal guards. Lying his way onto pirate ships had only gotten him so far as here. For months he’d been stranded. Travelling on land instead of water, making a trade as a doctor. But still, he hadn’t been able to stay in one place long.
Travelling alone however, had put things into a bit of perspective. The thrill of adventure remained, but none of the wonders seemed so great without people to share them with. Without a crew by his side or a companion to hold his hand, it was a bit lonely.
"Depends on the port," he joked, but the answer remained as he’d said earlier. He’d stick around this time. He wouldn’t likely be able to resist going off on his own occasionally, but he’d be there when the ship departed from a new location. Maybe, for once, he wouldn’t run.
