June Monthly Blog
June was the same as last month but quieter. I was still looking after social media for both Metro Radio and TFM, discussing content ideas with my line manager and the calls with the whole group for the new campaign, ‘Get That Summer Feeling’.
I’ve been creating memes for the campaign what go across all of the group including Scotland, this means I talk to the Head of Marketing in Scotland and Head of Cross Platform to schedule a weekly timeline with the weather for the group and content on what day. Content can include memes, TikToks or local articles.
Tumblr media
July will be my last month at Metro Radio and I’m so sad as the year has gone so quickly. I don’t want to leave such a great company with people who care about my career in the future.

May Monthly Blog
May was very similar to April, as we are still in lockdown. I’m definitely getting used to the idea of working from home but it would be nice to go back and see everyone at work.
There’s calls three times a week with the Metro staff who are not furloughed so it’s great to catch up with everyone to see what the sales team are doing, creative and digital. Calls with my line manager are happening daily as he updates me with what is happening across the whole country, including Scotland.
There’s a new campaign happening this Summer with the whole group and I’m happy to be apart of it. Right now, it’s still in an ideas stage but with calls with the digital content team and marketing staff across the group, it is coming to life.
I’m still doing social media for both companies, creating memes, articles and other content to keep people occupied during lockdown.

April Monthly Blog
April has started off being a very strange time with the pandemic going on, a lot of the staff have been furloughed which means I work with less people from the Metro office and more people centrally.
I am now in a team of people across the UK who distribute ideas for the whole group centrally and I am also in a team who create them ideas through Photoshop or Illustrator. It’s a really fun time as I’m talking to more people who I would never usually talk to.
Tumblr media
I’m on weekly calls with the Head of Digital Content for the whole group to talk about social ideas and also online articles. I have had a training with her to improve clicks and how to capture the audiences’ attention by just a headline.
Several of my posts I have created this month have reached up to 111,000 people with over 700 reactions and shares, so that training has really helped me to engage with the audience more.
Tumblr media
For Clap for Carers, we have created a campaign called ‘Local Heroes’, which is to nominate someone for the local heroes and then billboards across the North East will be shown in honour of them.
I have created the posters for all the billboards and I nominated a care home where I live to say thank you for all the hard work they are doing.
Tumblr media
I have also created videos/audios for all the social media for radio calls on a morning, Night Owls and other stuff.

March Monthly Blog
March has been a very strange month. Starting off working in an office to working at home in self isolation.
It was International Women's Day on the 8th March and we wanted to celebrate everything girl power!
I have been working on Newcastle Speedway and Newcastle Eagles since last month and have been continuing on into this month before the lockdown. I look after their airtime, social media, competitions and digital for the month and then sort out about unscheduling posts and articles due to COVID-19. I also make sure that they are doing everything they promised us at their arena and the same with the Speedway.
The beginning of the month was a lot calmer then now. Coronavirus changed everything. I’ve been working from home until the near future.
I’ve been doing everything what I normally do. Scheduling social posts, creating and writing articles and still communicating with all the teams. We’re all video calling or phone calling to still communicate with each other.
I now help all of the country (group) with distributing ideas and then creating ideas to post on Metro’s & TFM’s social media.

February Monthly Blog
After the very busy January, February was a lot calmer.
I planned, created and produced Metro's first-ever podcast. I got a presenter/host, 5 guests to talk to one another to explain why mental health is important to talk about.
Tumblr media
I also was given some projects from my line manager to look after, including It's Time To Talk:
Northumbrian Water, Cash for Kids installation prop
Newcastle Eagles
Newcastle Speedway
Multi Storey Madness
Gosforth Park
Tom Jones
We love 90s
Hardwick Festival
With the Eagles, I look after their airtime, social media, competitions and digital. I also make sure that they are doing everything they promised us at their arena and the same with the Speedway. I made sure that everything we promised them, we are delivering.
youtube
We also ran a Treehouse Wedding competition worth £3,900 and picking a winner was so rewarding to see. He was so thankful and grateful! Next month, we will be recording the winner’s fiances reaction as he doesn’t know about the prize!
Scheduling social posts for Believe Easter, This is Tomorrow, Speedway, Eagles and Throwback posts is another thing I was doing throughout the month to keep a schedule and keep it consistent.
I’m excited for the month ahead!

January Monthly Blog
January is meant to be a slow month... but it was anything but!
When I started after the Christmas Holidays, there was a meeting set in place to discuss the year and the campaigns we could run and Mental Health was a topic that came up! I am very passionate about mental health so I was totally on board with anything we would do. Then ‘It’s Time to Talk’ was born! I was leading the campaign so I knew I had to do a good job.
The campaign was set to launch on Blue Monday (20th January) with the aims of having 4 themes over 4 weeks.
how to open up - self-admission - how to recognising the signs
coping mechanisms - how to improve - resources
how to help others
how to maintain in the future - preventing relapse
Content:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was writing the blog posts, social media posts, planning and organising Metro’s first podcast, talking to our supporting partners (Tyneside Mind & Mental Health Matters), the clients who are sponsoring the campaign and guests for interviews with news and the podcast. I sorted a social media blackout on Blue Monday to explain to people our campaign.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With this campaign, I was also creating props for the University of Sunderland and Greggs. I was asked by my line manager to create mockups of t-shirts, phone cases, banners, photo opportunities at This is Tomorrow festival.

December Monthly Blog
The final month of the year was a big one!
It was the start of Mission Christmas for Metro’s charity Cash For Kids, so I was helping a lot with them as well as my placement. I was Courage the Cat for the annual Trolley Dash with Steve and Karen, sponsored by B&M.
Tumblr media
https://www.facebook.com/metroradiouk/videos/433443430937703/
I also attended the Tyne Theatre for the Press Night as we are media sponsors for them on the 6th December.
Tumblr media
As TFM are the sponsors of We Love 90s Redcar/Darlington, I was given press releases for the events, images and contacts. I had to schedule social posts, create articles for them to promote the events.
On the 12th December, I was invited to go to a tour of Newcastle’s first skyscraper. As it only has the structure built, it was a great experience to see how much work goes on inside and outside of the buildings. I also saw a great view of Newcastle and Gateshead from the roof.
Tumblr media
Laffs4Kids is Cash For Kids’ annual charity event for Mission Christmas and I was lucky enough to work for the whole day. I was talking to the performers, staff at the O2 City Hall, security and of course the audience. Thousands and thousands of presents came through the door to give children in the North East a present on Christmas morning.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The week after, I worked Street Team for Universal Orlando Resorts for their national Orlando giveaway. It was at the Metro Radio and there was a huge transparent dome and you had to catch as many snowflakes as you could to win the prize. Also on that same day, I was given the task of planning a Treehouse Wedding competition with Ramside Hall Hotel. That included: T&Cs, creating the competition page, liaising with Ramside and Bauer’s legal team.
Tumblr media
During the time I was off for the Christmas holidays, I scheduled a Fat Hippo and pantomime tickets competition until the 2nd of January and talking to the winner and talking to the companies involved.

October Monthly Blog
This month was a busy month for Metro Radio. We had Halloween coming up with PsychoPath and Family Fright Fest, Bonfire Night with Saltwell Park Fireworks and planning the Christmas Lights Switch On across the North East. At the start of October, we were still planning the live bands, entertainment, games for on stage and if Sam Fender would actually turn Newcastle Christmas Lights on.
With PsychoPath, the event had sold out pretty quickly and Family Fright Fest was also selling quick. We started to think about how could our engagement on social media be more, so we came up with an Ultimate Autumn Events Package competition for Facebook (including Family Fright Fest tickets and Saltwell Park Fireworks tickets).
Tumblr media
Planning for Saltwell Park was stressful but really interesting and fun. I got in touch with local band, Moodbay, to see if they were free to perform in front of over 10,000 people. They happily obliged. Whilst liaising with them, I was also liaising with intu Metrocentre’s marketing team to communicate with them about what time the MetroGnomes will be at the event and what time they will be on stage. I was also writing letters for residents who live around Saltwell Park to warn them about the road closures and they would be able to get two free tickets for the inconvenience. I also created adverts for the event on Premiere Pro, After Effects and Photoshop.

August Monthly Blog
Before I started my actual work placement, I got offered to work for Metro’s Street Team to work for a client called ‘Future Me’ at Cramlington and Whitley Bay.
I got to interact with the public, asking them if they want to play the basketball game whilst filling out a survey for our client. Over the two days, more than 50 people agreed to fill out the survey having to make conversations with the people who live in these areas, understanding their lifestyles.
I started my actual work placement on the 5th of August. I began shadowing the intern who was there before me learning how to use the programs the radio station uses, having inductions with different people from different sections of the workplace.
Tumblr media
I jumped straight into my work once the old intern left, I took over the social media platforms, competition winners, writing articles, emailing clients with events we are included in; for example, Elmer, Great North Run and Psycho Path. By starting the work, I learnt quickly that I have to be quick and efficient but also exceptional with it.  With Metro Radio being the official media sponsor for the Great North Elmer parade, we had a reveal for our Elmer with breakfast show hosts, Steve and Karen. The whole event was recorded and it was my job to be the one who edited the footage for social media platforms. I created a timelapse of the people who met Steve and Karen and also the reveal of ‘Our People’s Elmer’!
We had two Russell Howard tickets at the office and I suggested that we do a Facebook competition. The FB post went crazy with lots of engagement. This has to be one of my proudest achievements so far at Metro.
I worked on a few sales pitches on PowerPoint with the Newcastle Christmas Lights and NYE’s celebrations with the Sales and Promotions team. Learning what goes into a sale pitch to a company: schedule and airtime data, benefits of becoming a sponsor with us, branding on the website/social media, emailing to the VIP database.
