Do you prefer to watch stuff in english or spanish?

english most of the time, unless the source material is in spanish or has a spanish dub i particularly like. if the source material isn't in english or spanish, i watch it in the original language with whichever subs i find first (so usually english)

even though i speak spanish everyday irl, i default to watching/playing media in english a lot of the time out of habit. back when i was a kid videogames rarely were translated to spanish, and if they were it was only castilian spanish (which i never liked) so i got used to playing all my games in english. nowadays there's translations for everything but i don't see any point in switching to spanish versions now if this is what i'm used to. english isn't any harder for me to understand at this point, and back when i was still learning i enjoyed practicing! if anything playing a game in spanish would make it a bit harder to talk about it online because i wouldn't know what they call some items or terms in english, and almost all of my interactions online are in english, so...

that's another thing, things are usually easier to find in english because of how expansive the anglosphere is online. you reach a lot more people that way, and i learned that pretty early on when i first started using the internet. sometimes english is the only option, especially back in the day.

my family and i have been watching netflix's wednesday in spanish so my grandma doesn't have to read subtitles and i've caught so many awkward or forced translations in the dialogue that it bugs me LOL i've been rewatching some scenes in english on my own so i could hear the dialogue the intended way

Apologies if anyone has asked this before, but just in case, here goes a hypothetical scenario. Starting with the Lydia in your comic, now 47, caring for Astrid, reunited with BJ. Their inevitable shenanigans aside, since this Lydia and Beej are platonic soulmates and besties, Lydia is trying to get back into the dating scene now that she and Richard are divorced (and presumably he hasn't died in the Amazon yet).

Imagine she's gone on a frustrating number of dates with plenty of guys and nothing works out. And she feels like it must be her that's the problem, that something about her is wrong. That even after she thought she found "the one" with Richard, it fell apart. And in her moments of post-failed date vulnerability, she feels like she's undatable. Unworthy. Unlovable. If all of those types of thoughts came tumbling out in front of Beej, what would he say or do to comfort his best friend and get her through her moment of doubt?

I have some ideas, but would love your take as a fellow Beetleverse enthusiast. 👻❤️

that's pretty much what i have in mind for her! i haven't gotten around drawing that comic yet but there's this doodle from a while back

where she leaves bj and astrid to babysit each other while she goes on a date with a guy she doesn't have a lot of faith in. she's trying though. she can't quite connect with anybody so she feels very alone (required lydia character trait) and so she tries again and again with no success. she always hears people talk about how finding someone new helps with getting over past failed relationships but all she ends up with is even more failed relationships.

beetlejuice doesn't really get that. he's all YUCK RELATIONSHIPS and doesn't understand why lydia would even feel alone when he's right there, not grasping how it's...not the same lol. she's not sure he has the emotional maturity to handle that sort of conversation and fears that she'll just feel even more frustrated and like nobody gets her so she just avoids the subject with him

BUT

i may be planning a little something where she opens up about it and vents to him after having a couple of drinks. a little wine n' whine if u will 🍷

Do you have a cartoon Lydia pose reference sheet? Her cloak drives me nuts sometimes and I feel like I never know how to draw her making sweeping motions/arms out poses with it on.

these are the official reference sheets you'll see online but they might not be very intuitive and the web pattern makes it a bit difficult to make out what you're looking at

so here's some notes:

edit: i meant 2 rows, not 3. i mean i guess there's 3 rows if you're talking about the spaces between each line but i was talking about the lines lol 😭

for me personally, poses where she has her arms out are easier to draw than when her arms are down, because her poncho is splayed and the shapes are more straightforward. like for example if we're looking at her from the side and her arms are stretched out forward, the poncho will look kinda like a paper fan 🪭

the web pattern tends to trip people up so it's best to ignore it until you have figured out the basic shape of the poncho. what trips me up is always the opening and how the lower part of the poncho should hang if she's like sitting or something lol

I know you’ve been a fan of Beetlejuice for a long time! But I’m just curious if you’ve ever dabbled with making an oc/fan character for BJ? I think I saw back sometime that you had like a BJ persona?

a BJ persona, me? not really. i'm not much for making fan characters...what i do have is a couple of AUs with my own versions of BJ and lydia but i haven't done much with it (i'm thinking of merging them)

and like one time where i had one of my ocs be beetlejuice for fun (he was just like the bj in the second image above)

Y'know, seeing toon Astrid makes me wonder... what if there was a Toon Jeremy, who's still kinda messed up (can tilt his head a full 90 degrees because of his broken neck, wears scarfs and such to hide the bruise) but stays nice like BJ and together he and Astrid go on whacky Neither world adventures
