“If you’re a Kanye West fan, you’re not a fan of me, you’re a fan of yourself. You will believe in yourself. I’m just the espresso.” Now, I wouldn’t say or claim that I’m a Kanye “super fan” (friends and family may tell you different 😅). I don’t own every album, know every lyric or weird trivia facts. I have always been drawn to Kanye and inspired by him because of his drive. I love pretty much all of his work as an artist, musician and producer, and I do think he is and look at him as a genius. I’m sure you can hear his influence in a lot of my beats and productions. From soulful sample selections, to little vocal hits, to carefully strategized over production or experimentation. The thing I have always admired about Kanye is that there are no limits to what he is capable of. If he says he’s going to do something, you had better bet Kanye. When I sit down at my computer to start creating, with my yeezus painting looking over me, it’s like that extra push, the voice inside my head, reminding me that I’m capable of anything I put my mind to. I just gotta do it. Is obviously heard the song Spaceship before, though I’ll admit it’s definitely been a minute. When I listened to it yesterday these lyrics really stuck out and resonated with me: “Lock yourself in a room Doing five beats a day for three summers That's A Different World like Cree Summer's I deserve to do these numbers” - Kanye West, Spaceship I’ve been making music for about a decade now, but with XOVID hitting last year I’m going in to my second summer of “lock yourself in a room doing five beats a day”. To be honest I’ve been seeing crazy results, achieving goals and dreams and really creating the life I want to live doing what I love. And that’s the thing with Kanye, there’s always a lyric, or quote or something that pushes, inspires and motivates me. “Can I talk my shit again?” I said this the other day on Facebook and Twitter, but I feel like I need to say it again. Not for anyone else but me. A little daily affirmation. So hear me when I say this. There’s not a doubt in my mind right now that I’m doing, with music etc … is exactly what I’m supposed to be doing. The universe been telling me, giving me signs, subtly whispering “keep going”. With June here we’re almost at the halfway mark of 2021. Almost a full 6 months in. I can promise you I have some incredible things planned for the second half of this year. Not saying the first half hasn’t been! Last year I dropped my first Drum Kit, Gutter Drums Vol. 1. The response from the kit was crazy. ‘Walk With Me’ is a testament to trusting and not rushing the creative process. This song saw a few different verses, potential hooks, revisions, struggles with art and titles but I can say now full heartedly that I am proud of the final version of ‘Walk With Me’ to be released on Friday May 21st. Make sure you hit the presave link in my BIO and add this song to your favourite playlist so you don’t miss the drop. Originally Mickey Factz wasn’t supposed to be on ‘Walk With Me’. The original track had Jacobi the Giant and a verse from another artist. I played a rough version of the song, with no hook, back in October 2020 on the ‘constructive criticism’ show by @breakalegent with @kosannot & @carvomusic with @mickey.factz as a guest. This was Mickey’s response after hearing the rough track. “Aye Nate ... why wasn’t I called for this”. His feedback was that the first artist (Jacobi) “went crazy” but the second artist didn’t bring enough energy. Hearing this from one of my favourite artists you know I had to hit up Mickey for a verse. Once that verse came in the song started to come together, even ended up getting Mickey to the hook.
