Ryan Adamczeski at The Advocate:
Michigan's hate crime law has been updated to include sexual orientation and gender identity after Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed several bills into law last week. House Bills 5400 and 5401 amend the definition and sentencing guidelines of the state's 1988 “ethnic intimidation” statute to include sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, and age, designating them as protected groups against hate crimes if they are found to be a motivating factor for violent behavior.
State Attorney General Dana Nessel, who is an out lesbian, said in a statement that “it’s incumbent upon those of us with the authority to unilaterally denounce such sentiments; otherwise, there’s no stopping this behavior." “Over the past decade, we have seen not just an uptick in hate crimes, but a normalization of racist, antisemitic and bigoted language, symbolism and actions – including a close adviser to the President giving the Nazi salute during an inaugural rally just this week,” Nessel said. "I applaud the Governor for signing these long overdue changes to the state’s statutes.” The bill amending the hate crime statute's definition was first introduced by Democratic state Rep. Noah Arbit in 2023, but failed to pass after conservatives falsely claimed that the law made it a felony to misgender someone. Arbit noted in a conversation with CBS at the time that the bill did not contain the word "misgender" in its entire text, calling the claims "far-right fiction."
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) signs hate crime laws protecting sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, or age status.

Just shows the "Dumb It Down" movement is working it's magic on the children, where a thoughtful reply once used to hold value as insightful wisdom, nowadays anything that isn't a short, sweet, and instant reply is rejected as hesitant lies. It's truly sad. Children used to be forced to physically have their questions answered by a patient adult, but now answers are expected to be a Google away.

I think it's a leftover of the brutal way they went about forcing immigrants like the Irish AND PoC to behave, dress, and speak Most Proper English like we're fancy trained dogs to show off to the world. I'm one of the few in my generation who was physically forced after adoption to speak, dress, and wear my hair in a certain way according to Colonial-esque standards.
No shorts or skirts were allowed above the knees, Hawaiian Pidgin (which is now accepted as a real language) earned smacks to my head when she got frustrated training me to speak PROPER English (eg: "Yes, M'am/No M'am") and the proper grammar I'd be mocked for when I failed. My culturally long hair was chopped into a very dickhead bob that added to the public school bullying the clothes had already earned, so ALL forms of self expression was stripped from my body and mind. Music was also banned, everything including local music was BAD and only NPR opera was EVER PLAYING. Even though the entire radio is censored, it wasn't good enough for the lady who adopted me.
She's a boomer from North Carolina and I still get frustrated with how repressive her culture is compared to mine, and how extremely psychologically abusive she was very much like how my more recent ancestors on both my Hawaiian and Native American sides endured, even if the physical abuse and restraints were less severe.. it was hell and I ran away after 3 years of this crap, because at that point I had my room stripped of all belongings, was given a trash can to piss and shit in, and a camera I saw the light worked on but swore up and down to my then-therapist that it was never plugged in. Years later she would tell my new teen-era therapists that it never happened, even though in private as an adult she told me how much it cost her to finally steam clean all of my soiled spills out of that old carpet. She was hellbent on trying to smack and smother my indigenous AND ghetto origins out of me, and turned me into an in-house prisoner when that didn't work, switching both locks and the single light switch to the outside of the door so she could control when the light went off.
It's like America is trying to apply this level of self-expressive censorship on a global scale because they own many popular video streaming websites that the world uses. It's been a weird fucking ride, watching what American censorship movements has done to the entire internet. F U C K C E N S O R S H I P
You know what really fucking Annoys Me about internet censorship is stuff like swear words being heavily censored because that's entirely an American cultural hangup being forced on the rest of us. I don't know a single country where swearing is as taboo as it is in America. In fact most languages have swear words that would have the same effect on an American as giving a Victorian chimney sweep a pepsi max cherry.

I'd vote if party loyalty wasn't required, sometimes I like the Green guy or gal even though they always lose by a large margin, which is likely BECAUSE party loyalty is REQUIRED FOR YOUR VOTE TO COUNT.
Tumblr media
I know this makes the anti-voting fandom big mad but this is only happening because Murphy was re-elected by a thin margin in November 2021, bucking a 40 year trend of Democratic governors losing re-election in NJ, because enough people voted for him

If you have a stockpile you are an addict
Btw you have to refill on the same day you run out of medication
Btw you will have seizures and possibly die if you miss your medication
Btw the pharmacy will not order your medication in advance of the one day you are allowed to call and refill it
But you are an addict who should be criminalized if you have a few days stockpiled so you don’t have a seizure and die.
This is a normal way to treat disabled people who need medication that keeps them from dying.

Some reminders about Dr. King before tomorrow:
US government agencies were implicated in the wrongful death lawsuit in a civil trial in 1999 that his family fought for years and which was then buried by the justice department. The full transcripts of the trial and the following press conference are available on the King Center’s website. http://www.thekingcenter.org/assassination-conspiracy-trial
He spoke out against police brutality, capitalism, and war.
He believed that white moderates were and are the greatest threat to civil rights, moreso than any hate group.
He was arrested over 10 times.
He was considered a dangerous radical by the majority of white Americans.
He refused to condemn rioters, because “a riot is the language of the unheard.”
Any white person who voted for Trump who tries to use MLK or his words as a rhtetorical tactic to justify their bigotry and complain about people protesting can personally come to my apartment in the next 24 hours for an ass-kicking.

The active suppression of truths keep hatreds and racism alive, the freeing of historical unbiased truths gives a deeper understanding as to why certain areas are a certain way after being given historical context, and an understanding can heal that anger both from within and without that area.
This is why the American concept of attempts made for Successions from the Union cannot be seen in an equal lighting per geographical location, when some have the Perfect Right to do so while others, like Texas, simply do not. Localised laws make a FAR greater impact on the day to day life of the citizens within.
