-Derek smiles up at her, still somewhat in disbelief that this is real. That they’re gonna have a baby together and Allison Argent’s carrying it for them.
Max had been so excited he’d nearly hyperventilated. And then been briefly confused at how Allison was carrying the baby but after that was explained he was back to bouncing around about how excited he was to be a big brother.
However there’s still an unwanted weight on him. Chris appears to be in a stupor ever since the rest of the story has come out.
Derek pokes him. Hard.
This earns him a completely unnecessary glare but does get Chris to move and help him up, still looking completely unrepentant.-
This October there will be a new Hale. -He can’t help glancing at Peter, but quickly diverts to Allison.- Thanks to an Argent crazy enough to help.
-Allison dimples with an answering grin. The moment is broken by one equally as unexpected to people that don’t know them. Peter hugs Leah. But despite Derek’s own feelings, Peter and Leah are pretty close. When Peter turns to him, though, Derek braces himself.
Congratulations, Derek. Peter’s searching his face for something. What, he doesn’t know. Her blood, it could bring the full shift back to our pack.-
I’m not sure that would be a good thing. For all we know, Leah’s genes could completely override mine. Either way I’m, for once, not gonna worry about it right now.
Tumblr media
Yeah, it worked.  -she supposes since they haven’t been elbows deep in the whole thing like the four of them have for the last three months, they probably deserve some kind of explanation-  Turns out my eggs are just fine.  Not cycling was my body’s way of preventing pregnancy.  Guess evolution decided it was too tricky with the shift.  And I can’t disagree.  But–  She and Allison share a look and a soft smile.  She’s always liked Allison, always been glad the imprint chose to make her a sister, but now they’re bonded in a way that’s deeper, and defies clear definition–
But Allison offered to do the hard part.  And, well, we said yes.
Oh, and two months.  We wanted to make sure it took.  We were gonna wait until the first trimester was over, but Allison’s starting to get sick, and she wanted to tell you before you just guessed.
So…yeah.  Baby!

-It takes a lot longer than it probably should for the meaning of Allison’s words to sink in. And he thinks, no one could have prepared them for any of this. No one could have prepared them for a world in which a hunter would carry the child of two wolves. No one could have prepared them for a Hale to look at an Argent and see anything but a murderer.
To see, instead, a friend. A fellow warrier. Pack.
He trusts her. And he will never find a way to thank her for this.
But, in the end, it’s not his decision alone. Leah’s face is frozen in shock, staring unblinking at Allison. The pads of his fingers graze down Leah’s wrist until they slide between her own, her palm hot against his.-
Leah?
-She calculates how quickly Seth can steal the cake if they strike fast and hard, and it’s the deciding factor in her decision to just go for the kill rather than break it slowly-
I’ll do it. -she says abruptly- If you want me to.  I’ll be your surrogate. You won’t have to worry about an outsider finding out, and you know I’m capable of protecting myself if the shit hits the fan.  Which, lets be honest, it probably will.

-Derek chuckles, watching Leah suck her finger clean of icing with intent dark eyes. Well, eye.
He’s just leaning in to taste what flavor lingers there when a throat clears in the doorway. Derek leans back, slowly; eyes not leaving Leah’s lips then eyes for a long moment.
Allison looks amused and Seth, in complete defiance of the brother stereotype, isn’t looking at them at all. His eye is on the cake. Frowning, Derek pulls it closer to he and Leah.-
Dibs.
-She’s tired, but happy, as she looks around her father and Peter’s living room, littered with wrapping paper and wine glasses and mounds and mounds of presents.  Christmas is almost over, and she’d spent it surrounded by everyone she cared about most.
Evan and Catori are passed out on the floor, Evan’s hand still clutching a stuffed Grumpy Cat, and one of Cat’s hands clutching a child size quiver and the other wrapped securely around Evan’s ankle.  Max is snuggled between her father and Peter, a story book open on his lap that he’s reading to the two of them in a soft, faltering voice.
Isaac had disappeared to Scott’s a few hours ago, and Leah and Derek have retreated to the kitchen to pick at leftovers, but every few seconds soft laughter drifts out.
She can’t imagine a more perfect day, and she nuzzles her head into Seth’s neck and presses a little closer to his side.-
Merry Christmas, baby.
-He kisses her forehead.  Merry Christmas.  He pauses for a beat and then asks quietly, You 100% sure about this?
She answers honestly, as sure about this as she has been on anything-
Yeah, yeah I am.  Come on.  -she stands and tugs him up after her, and they head toward the kitchen-

-Thinking about Stiles, crazy flailing Stiles, landing himself not one but two boyfriends...one of which was quite literally the antichrist, furrows Derek’s brow to the extreme. How and why were the obvious questioins but they were quickly forgotten when Leah settles her body fully over his, hair falling in a curtain around his face.
Taking his hand, she pushes it up under her shirt, the heat of her skin never failing to spread straight down to the core of him. Derek palms her breast, then flicks his thumbnail over her nipple. He’s immediately gratified at the way her eyes darken. She rubs against him, no doubt feeling the way she’s already affecting him.
And yeah, Derek thinks, as he tangles his hand back in her hair and pulls her into a kiss, Leah really does have the best ideas.-
-She knows his scar and permanent red eye bother him, but he so very rarely wants to talk about it, much less mentions it first.
She climbs on top of him and grins, pinning his hands to the mattress by his shoulders.  Outside the room she can hear Isaac and Max starting to stir, but they can take care of themselves for awhile.
She leans down and traces up Derek’s scar with the tip of her tongue, then presses an open mouth kiss over where his eyelid has slide down in response to her touch-
Derek, I’m perfectly fine adopting a toddler.  But not because I’m trying to save them some kind of freak out over your scar or your eye.  Because it’s not freaky or scary.  It’s different, and a little badass-  She smirks and nudges at his chin until he’s forced to meet her gaze- but not scary.

-He’s frowning and he knows it. It’s just ...he hates it. It’s ugly and huge and forces him to wear a stupid contact all the time. And if it was just that it would be one thing. But he can’t fucking see out of that eye. It’s messed up everything from still knocking stuff over all the time to how he moves and does things all the way up to his job.
Derek doesn’t want to fight about it though. He doesn’t even want to think about it. So he smiles instead, largely tinted with amusement.-
Well there is a large list of people that say your tastes are kinda screwy anyway.

-Derek imagines Leah holding a little girl that looks like her. Or doesn’t. He likes it. Wants it.-
Yeah. That sounds pretty perfect. -He clears his throat.- I was thinking it might be a good idea to try and adopt a toddler this time. Or a baby. So we’re not thrusting a kid headfirst into everything they’re taught to fear. -He focuses on a point above her left brow.- And I’d probably be a lot less scary looking to a baby.
-There’s a part of him that, after talking with Carlisle and knowing they could do this, is sad. There’s a literal ache in his chest from it. Because…because he wants to see Leah pregnant. He wants to know that that life is something they made together.
And maybe in some weird way, he wants to make his family proud. Because the Hale’s had been rare, even among their own kind. Their bloodline had been pure enough that some could still shift completely into wolf form. Well, he’s never been able to so maybe that line of thought was a moot point. Not to mention Leah not even being the same species. But she is still a wolf. The point being, he and Leah could continue that. Make their line and their pack even stronger. Maybe in some way make up for his own part in thoroughly decimating it to begin with.
But beyond all that, Derek’s chest hurts seeing Leah hunched in on herself for some perceived failure on her part.
Derek wraps his arm around her, tugging her down until her arms naturally wrap around him and he can tangle his hand in her hair.-
You’ve got nothing to be sorry for. I’m just as happy adopting as anything else. I just want to have a family with you. You know that.

-She’s been staring at the ceiling of their bedroom since she got home from work early this morning.  Derek’s off shift today, and Max and Isaac are out for Winter Break, so everyone else is still sleeping, even Max for once.  She can’t, because she can’t stop replaying everything they’d learned in their visit with Carlisle.
Her eggs are fine.  Absolutely fucking fine.  The elders had been wrong.  Carlisle speculated that perhaps the end of her cycle when the shift hit her had less to do with her body being naturally defective and more with the shift actually making it defective.  As a biological measure of protection.  Because wolves, particularly new wolves, often have very little control of their shifts, especially when their tribe, pack, or family are endangered.  Leah had had less than most.  And a shift while pregnant would be disastrous.  So nature, or evolution, or what the fuck ever, had taken steps to ensure it never would.  The shift had made her barren, not the other way around.
But this is the 21st century, and what biology can do, science can undo.  Carlisle thinks there’s nothing to keep them from doing IVF.  That there’s nothing in her body or biology that would keep her from being able to gestate once they implant the zygote.
She can bear Derek’s child.
And she wants it.  So badly.  And she knows Derek does; he’s been practically floating since Carlisle told them the news.  But the sick, knotted feeling in her stomach won’t go away.  Finally she gives up on the idea of sleep altogether and rolls to face him.  She kisses his jaw and works her way up to his ear-
Derek, wake up.

Mmm.
-Leah’s lips press against his skin, hovering him in that place between sleep and consciousness. She keeps sing-songing his name and he thinks he manages a grunt or two in response. Despite her efforts, sleep is just about to win out again. At least until she bites the lobe of his ear hard enough to actually hurt.
He grunts again, jerking his head away and glaring at her as she laughs. It probably ends up looking more like annoyed confusion, though, what with him having to blink his eyes several times to truly focus on her.-
You’re a menace.

Introducing Sarah Connor
Tumblr media
Sarah Connor’s entire goal in life is to protect and prepare her son for Judgment Day. Which was hard enough with just terminators to worry about. But now Derek’s telling her that the creatures from stories are more than myth. So either Cameron’s been slipping something into his drinks or life just got even more complicated.
Either way, it’s time to check it out. They can either learn how to use them or, if necessary, learn how to defeat them.
Follow her and audition to play the role of her son, John.

-Derek kisses her full on the mouth, tasting the coffee/toothpaste combo lingering there until her body relaxes fully against his. Sometimes, even after all this time, he's still shocked anyone trusts him enough to let their guard down around him.-
I have to run Max to school. But -he eyes down her dress- you should leave this on. Let me take it off when I get back.
-Derek finds Leah in their bedroom trying on a slinky dress that fits every curve of her body perfectly. Which just makes him want to peel it right back off of her.-
What’s the special occasion?
-It’s my dress for the wedding. What do you think?-
I think it’s a good thing I’m not responsible for saying anything Saturday. Because I’m definitely not gonna be able to keep my eyes off you.
-Leah’s mouth upturns in a pleased smile and she turns back to the mirror while making a comment about what else he can keep on her. Derek doesn’t take being told twice, slipping arms around her waist and resting his chin on her shoulder.-
So I’ve decided what I want for my birthday.
-She cocks an eyebrow at him in the mirror. Derek avoids his own gaze. He hasn’t put in his contact yet so his blind red eye stands out all the more starkly with his scar. He doesn’t look like he belongs at her side.
Have you? Because I bought your present ages ago so you may be out of luck until next year, bud.
Derek smiles, a little nervous as he strokes his thumbs across her stomach. In the end he just says what he’s thinking flat out because he’s never been good at knowing how to ease into subjects.-
I want us to have another kid. A little girl, maybe. And I was thinking, if you wanted, we could try IVF. Or if that ends up not being an option, we could still look into surrogacy. We could get an embryo and you could carry it. -Leah’s eyes are wide but otherwise her face is closed down and Derek doesn’t know how to read that.- Or we could adopt again. I just …we talked about wanting three or four kids and I realized I don’t really want to wait.

-Derek cups Leah's cheek, shaking his head.-
You're not broken. -She goes to argue but Derek talks over her.- You're not.
And I was thinking Margaery might know some people. Or that wolf with the treaty pack. We have connections now.
And money's not that tight. We can make it work. Our insurance will cover some of it. Not all of it, but some.
-Leah looks like she's so used to disappointment that she doesn't even know how to be hopeful.-
Hey. If it doesn't work, we know we can adopt. Either way, we get to be parents.

-Processing the scene takes time. Derek hopes that once they pull the slug from Chris' chest, they'll be some kind of identifying feature tying it to another crime. Even if it's an unsolved case, it will give them an area of reference.
This wasn't an animal attack. This isn't how supers kill. Unless they're trying to throw off suspicion. Or unless they're like Peter and married to a hunter. Peter and Allison had made a trip to the basement before they left so that they had not only Derek's sidearm but Chinese ring daggers (for Allison) and two guns that he had seen Chris carry on more than one occasion (for Peter).
Derek supposes even he doesn't fit the typical mold of weapon choice these days. Didn't anyone ever tell you not to bring claws to a gun fight? Pushing the memory aside, Derek pulls out his phone.-
Where are you?
-Peter and Seth are tracking their scent. We're headed east on 99 out of town. Danny said he could try and trace any calls made from the house to get a location that way. Get here, Derek. We won't wait when we find them.-
Allison...
-She hangs up on him.-
Dammit. Turn right here. They're on 99. Do you want me to call Ellen?
-She can't be handling this well. Chris has been her friend for years.-
- Soon after Peter and Allison left, the house is crawling with people and Mike is glad about it. Going through the standard operating procedure of processing a crime scene distracts him from thinking too much about *who* is lying there on the floor.
Questions about how Peter had been able to grab Derek’s gun he simply answers with a icy glare.
This is something he knows, something he can do blindfolded, and it helps him to keep his wolf from showing. It’s only when the coroner’s assistent closes the bodybag that he feels the all too familiar heat creeping up his back again. Chris was his friend, too.
Derek touches his arm and wispers a warning Sheriff! and Mike nods thankful. He takes a deep breathe and goes outside, where he takes out his phone to call Ellen. He needs to hear her voice right now. After he talked to her for some minutes and filled her in on what had happened he feels a little calmer again and hears Derek inside talking to another deputy. “Uhm, Morris, could you wrap this up in here, while Sheriff Stilinski and I go talk to the vict… to Mr. Hale-Argent’s daughter?”
He waits for Derek in the car and quietly hopes that Allison had made it home alright by now, and that Peter is with her and hasn’t done anything stupid or murdered anyone yet.. Although he wouldn’t bet on the latter.
