         The small amusement from his comment vanished the moment Klaus saw Hope run towards him. His arms instinctively went around her, holding her close ; protectively. So much of their time together had been stolen from them both. Although heaven had turned out to be nice, he knew that nothing could compare to the sweet bliss of holding one’s daughter. Even as she cried silently against his chest, his eyes closed and he took in as much of the moment as he could. It was though he were afraid he could vanish at any second and it would have all been a dream. The smell of her, the sound of her breathing, the feel of her heartbeat–– it was all uniquely and undeniably Hope. His Hope.

         When he heard her speak, his eyes opened, though his arms remained around her. ❝ Freya, ❞ he answered simply. Finally he leaned back, taking her face in his hands as he studied her. There was a deep sadness in her eyes that tore at his very heart. ❝ She doesn’t remember you. She’s called your aunts and uncles, even Marcel, and no one does. ❞ While he was able to watch over her in death, he still wasn’t all-knowing. He couldn’t see everything which always kept him just an arms length from true peace since it seemed she was always getting herself into trouble.

          of course  .  freya  .  she had been so  lost  ,  so undeniably  preoccupied  by the hell she had  fabricated  for herself in mystic falls that she didn’t even  think  about what this could have done to her  family  .  the ones who  loved  her  ,  who devoted their  lives  to her  .  freya  ,  rebekah  ,  kol  ,  marcel  .  they still had pictures  ,  paintings  ,  knick knacks from her  childhood  .  of course they were confused  ,  they were probably  racking  their brains to figure out  who  she was and  why  they had suddenly forgotten a very detrimental part of their lives  .  enough so that her powerful aunt would bring her father  back  from the grave  .  the reasoning was so  believable  that she didn’t feel the need to further  press  on it  .  she was just  thankful  that he was here  ,  that his arms were now  protecting  her from the harsh reality that she had  thrown  herself into  .  literally  .

          his hands are pressed against her cheeks  ,  tears  pooling  against his  touch  .  it was a  constellation  of emotion  ;  she was so  happy  that he was here but so  ashamed  of what she had done  .  she’d only wanted to do  right  by his name  ,  to make her parents  proud  .  ocean eyes can’t help but glance  away  as he explains her loved ones  concern  ,  or lackthereof  .  they didn’t know her  ,  they couldn’t be  concerned  for her  .  what did you do ?  her head  shakes between his hold  ,  lips  pressing  together  .  ❝  i’m so sorry .  ❞  was all she could muster  ,  guilt evident in her tone  .  ❝  i didn’t -  i didn’t think it through .  i just . . .  jumped .  and then -  and then it  spit  me back out and now ,  and now i’m  nothing  .  i’m  no one  . ❞  she didn’t make any sense  ,  she knew that  .  she was only relaying her  own  thoughts to him  ,  the thoughts that had been coursing through her for  weeks  .  ❝  it’s a long  story ,  but . . .  just know that i’m  sorry  ,  dad .  i’m so sorry .  ❞

         she’s doing that  thing  she does when she’s trying to hold back  tears  .  lips pushed together  ,  focus everywhere  but  the wolf in front of her  .  classic  hope mikaelson  ,  making a mess of  everyone  and  everything  .  she was  chaos  embodied within a  super - human vessel and most days she felt more  mistake  than  miracle  ,  today was no exception  .   ❝  you don’t -  you don’t have to  explain  yourself ,  raf .  ❞  she assures him with a nod  ,  a sympathetic smile painted onto her lips  .   ❝  i put  everyone  in a really tough spot and i deserve  everything  thrown at me .  i’m not  afraid  to admit that .  ❞
