I've heard one of my posts is causing waves
Here's some more things that are normal in DID/OSDD systems, and some weird myths, in no particular order
- Not realizing you're a system until later is normal (average age of system discovery is 18-21)
- It's rare for children to display distinct alters (not impossible, just a rare occurrence in a rare disorder (based on numbers, it's considered rare, yes), alters tend to form in mid-teens)
- Feeling as though you "created" an alter is normal (related to unconscious feelings of control over an uncontrollable situation, and/or tricking yourself into an explanation, also, if you have a need to be filled, the brain WILL provide)
- "mixed origin systems" are totally normal for DID/OSDD. I have a couple alters that could be considered "endogenic", but I'm really just... DID, with normal alters forming in normal ways
- Alters forming at any age/time is normal (you can form a brand new alter at fifty, after having undergone complete fusion, once the ability is there, it's always possible to split)
- Alters don't always appear immediately after a traumatic event (alters can take YEARS to come to front after forming, making it impossible to tie them to specific events unless THEY'RE aware of the connection)
- Alters can form from stress, not just trauma (and the brain is notoriously good at hiding how stressed you are from yourself)
- Comfort splits ARE normal in DID/OSDD
- The amnesia criteria in DID doesn't mean you need to experience amnesia day-to-day, you still have DID if you can't remember childhood events but have good communication now
- The dysfunction criteria is redundant and circular, where the symptoms themselves fulfill the criteria, and as per the DSM, doesn't imply any inherent need for treatment or distress-- so being happy, loving your system, feeling like your system helps you more than it hinders you, all normal (and good!) but still DID/OSDD
- OSDD 1a does not involve alters as they're known, but states or modes that influence you, and amnesia occurs during these periods of influence; OSDD 1b involves "emotional amnesia" only (which is just a stupid, fancy word for dissociation (an emotional disconnect from a memory) that doesn't actually exist in the medical world)
- You can have as many EPs and ANPs as you'd like. The majority of systems with OSDD feel as though the one ANP theory doesn't fit them, and there have recently been updates to theories to acknowledge this
- Integration is the lowering of dissociative barriers to allow for better communication between system members, and is absolutely necessary for functional multiplicity (fusion is the joining of two or more alters). These definitions come from the ISSTD, and it IS recognized by the ISSTD that integration and functional multiplicity are viable and attainable treatment goals. Keep this in mind when conversations about these topics come up-- if you can communicate clearly with alters, you're already well integrated. It's not scary, it's not bad, and no one can or will make you fuse.
- CPTSD, the basis of dissociative disorders and DID, presents very differently from PTSD -- mostly presenting as a negative view of the self and vigilance rather than the flashbacks and nightmares you'd see in PTSD (it's quite similar to BPD, but the view of the self is negative rather than unstable). If you resonate with some aspects of BPD and have a system, and you don't experience the "typical" presentation of PTSD, that's normal. That's CPTSD (complex PTSD, not chronic PTSD), maybe read up on it.
- You don't need to know your trauma to acknowledge that you have DID/OSDD, and no one should be pushing that you search for trauma. Who cares, move at your own pace, maybe you'll never figure it out, and that's perfectly fine. People who push others about their trauma will face my wrath.
- Trauma isn't an action, but a REACTION to an event. What traumatizes one person, may not have any effect on another person, and vice versa. This isn't about what might have happened to you, but how you felt about it. There is no Trauma Olympics, and people who play that way are ridiculous. Trauma reactions are personal and unique, and come from anything-- bullying, isolation and loneliness, abuse. And yes, other disorders can make you more susceptible to trauma reactions. Having autism or ADHD or BPD, EDs, psychosis, schizophrenia-- all of these create more opportunities for trauma reactions, and make someone more susceptible. That doesn't mean you're not trauma based. It doesn't mean those things caused your system. It means those things made it harder for you to navigate life and left you more susceptible to trauma. That's it.
- MADD is typically trauma based
There's so, so many more. Other DID/OSDD systems, feel free to add on, endogenic systems, ask if something is normal.

perennial reminder about the word "plural"
here's the original blog post, from the 90s, that introduces 'plural' as a purposefully non-medical alternative to 'multiple'
Tumblr media
[image text: "This is one reason our clan encourages use of the word "plural" rather than "multiple". "Multiple", even standing by itself, brings to mind MPD/DID, "multiple personality disorder", "dissociative identity disorder", which are specific diagnoses created by the medical/therapeutic community. "Plural" is a much more neutral word, more commonly heard in the context of grammar than psychiatry. (The other reason, of course, is that plural can be construed to have a broader meaning, applying to anyone(s) anywhere on the continuum who experience themselves as plural in some way. )"]
the concept of plurality was always deliberately inclusive. it has been for more than 20 years. there is no diagnosis that makes you plural or not plural. having a trauma history or specific symptoms cannot make you plural or not plural. there is no "real plurals" vs "fake plurals". it is an opt-in community and identity. plurality is not mutually exclusive with psychiatric diagnoses, but as a label, it is intentionally disconnected from medical terminology.

As awareness of plurality continues to spread online, that also means more and more people will realize they are plural. And unfortunately, there will be a response from certain gatekeepy exclusionist types, who will push back against these newfound systems and insist on invalidating them. They’ll insist they’re just hopping on a trend, or just fooling themselves, or whatever other justification they can make up to maintain the idea that being plural is extremely rare and being plural means suffering for it.
Don’t fall for it. Being plural presents challenges and difficulties without question, but being plural also can bring joys and clarity that weren’t possible otherwise. Being plural can be hard, and it can be beautiful.
No two systems present and function exactly the same ways. No two systems are plural for the exact same reasons. So we can’t expect there to be an absolute common trait present in every system. So any attempt to weed out the “fakers” is pointless and malicious.
If someone believes themself to be plural, they have good reason to. No further “proof” needed. If someone comes to us believing themself to be plural, we will help them along without critique or question. And above all we will be happy for them. Even if someday they realize they aren’t plural, that process of being allowed to question and experiment is so important, and they should be allowed to do so regardless of where they end up.
Plurality is a spectrum that encompasses a vast swathe of experiences and outlooks. It can be difficult to reckon with, which is why community is so vital. And as that community online grows and becomes more and more visible, we should all do our part, systems and singlets, to make sure these newfound systems feel safe, seen, and welcome.

I don’t mean to say this to make anyone stressed, but this isn’t the time to be endo-neutral,
endogenic systems are being harassed in mass, and if we don’t come together to support our fellow systems we all fall.
bigotry is not something to be neutral on. It only benefits the bigots, and hurts the minority.

Challenge for all inclusive systems!
If you support endogenic systems and all that fall under the umbrella, I want to challenge all of you to write positive posts every time you see some negative hate in #pluralgang to drown out the hate/push it down because that is what we are going to start doing.

Hello! Are you traumagenic? Are you also pro-endo? Are you tired of all the endogenic hate in the traumagenic community? Then boy do I have the blog for you! Yeah it’s what it says on the tin, it’s a culture is blog for pro-endogenic traumagenic systems-
Note: Your submissions don’t specifically have to be about the struggles of being a pro endo traumagenic system, good old traumagenic culture posts are allowed! Just with a pro endo community (If that makes any sense hbgbfh-)
I don’t have any strict definition on traumagenic, if you consider yourself traumagenic, even partly, you’re good enough for me! You also don’t have to start your asks with “pro endo traumagen culture is” because I know that’s a mouthful-
Obviously anti endos dni, just block us and move on ok? Non-traumagenic systems and singlets are allowed to stay, just be respectful! :]
Queue might be slow (plus its my first time running a blog like this) but I will try!
Pfp and banner are both from Project SEKAI (Specifically Mafuyu and Tsukasa they’re plural in my heart </3), with the pfp having the traumagenic flag from Grey Skies
Party inspired by our dear moot @pluralproseka and its culture blogs!
Intro about moi (blog owner) under the cut
Heyo! Uh, you can call us Lune (they/them + just about every neo pronoun-), might sometimes use sign offs, idk- we’re trying to get by-
I made this blog because well, we’re traumagenic (maybe?) and pro endo! (plus it seems like the only other pro endo traumagenic culture blog is dead)

It's okay to not know everything. It's okay to have amnesia regarding basic skills of survival. It's okay to not completely understand what the outside world is other than going through the motions. It's okay and normal to be distressed by it. With enough time, you will be able to.

I think anti-endogenics make endogenic plurality more about DID than endogenics do. This is about the whole "endogenics just want DID" thing as a whole but more specifically about how anti-endogenics just can't see how endogenic plurality is not just relabeled DID and try to see endogenic plurality through the understanding of DID.
Is there information about endogenic systems that just doesn't work for DID? Are there spaces for endogenic plurals that don't work for DID systems? YES. and this has nothing to do with trying to spread misinformation on DID or trying to "lure" DID systems into thinking their endogenic or something. It's just an endogenic system space for endogenic systems.
Stop making endogenic plurality about DID.

Alterhuman Coining: Phoenitrauma & Phoenitraumagenic
[PT: Alterhuman Coining: Phoenitrauma]
Tumblr media
🌀 Phoenitrauma 🌀
alternatively: fenitrauma, phenitrauma
Phoenitrauma refers to any trauma someone has experienced/is affected by that originates from a past life, reincarnation, etc. The term is meant to validate the traumatic experience and the post-traumatic effects one might experience from their past lives, but still distinguish itself from trauma experienced within both this world and life. The word is derivative of "phoenixal" and meant to describe a certain type of exotrauma specific to people whose exomemories are from past lives/reincarnation/etc. The symbol is a combination of the phoenixal symbol and the aqua PTSD ribbon, over the phoenixal flag.
This term is meant for all people/being/etc that experience any sort of reincarnation or past lives, including otherkin/therians, introjected system members, and more. This term does not discriminate between spiritual-based and string-theory-based reincarnation/dimensional concepts.
Tumblr media
🌀 Phoenitraumagenic 🌀
alternatively: fenitraumagenic, phenitraumagenic
A system or system member that is phoenitraumagenic originates from phoenitrauma, a specific type of exotrauma stemming from past lives and other reincarnations. This means that the system/member(s) themselves stemmed from pre-existing phoenitrauma, rather than it simply coming with their exomemories.
Example 1: Member A has a traumatic past life, and Member B forms to cope with a specific aspect of that trauma. Member B is phoenitraumagenic.
Example 2: The system has no existing past life connection to Character C, but when Fictive C showed up, they found themself to be deeply affected by the exotrauma they experienced. Fictive C has phoenitrauma, but is not phoenitraumagenic.
Example 3: Member E has phoenitrauma from a bad experience in a previous reincarnation. Eventually, Member E splits a subsystem specifically centered around the phoenitrauma experienced. Member E's subsystem is phoenitraumagenic.
Some alternative flags & symbols!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
🌀 For use by all alterhumans; these terms are not gatekept, but please only use phoenitraumagenic if you identify as a system/plural/etc. Hate will be removed. 🌀

So like, I can understand why traumagenics would be *confused* by endogenic systems (NOT that that's any excuse to be bigoted against them! It costs $0 to mind our own business!) But I'm confused myself about how some exclus are against mixed origin systems as well. Like, does it really seem so impossible that someone could develop a dissociative disorder from trauma and then just keep splitting? If the brain has adapted to split a new alter in times of stress, what's to stop it from just doing that for other reasons? It already has that skill, might as well use it for convenience

inclusive traumagenic culture is being thankful you have the freedom to use so many terms to describe yourselves because of the inclus community 💙💙 We understand ourselves better than we ever would have!
!!!
just like how autistic ppl help us understand our bpd symptoms, and other queer ppl of different identities help us understand our sexualities/genders (a bit lol, we're still confused for the most part)
it's so hard to learn and grow when only surrounded by the ppl who remind us of ourselves the most. only when we meet others who are like-minded in the places that count but different can we truly be our best selves or even understand ourselves

Microlabel loving systems come get yall juice!!
Ever since @gift-basket-system coined isoscegenic, we've been thinking about how a lot of mixed origin terms could be coined!! So we thought we'd put some out into the world~ based on our own experiences and the input of some others!!
compogenic: a system member that stems from multiple/mixed origins, but said origins are either unclear or they don't wish to be identified.
(Compound - A substance that is made up of more than one atom bonded together)
ixturgenic: a system member that stems from mixed origins and feels that their origins affect their identity or functioning in prominent, separate "parts".
(mixture - a combination of two or more elements or compounds which have not reacted to bond together; each part in the mixture retains its own properties)
divergenic: A system that has subsystems or sidesystems of a different origin, making the system as a whole mixed.
(Divergent - tending to be different or develop in different directions)
hazygenic: A system that knows they are of mixed origins, but can't discern the origin of most of their members.
(Haze - a slight obscuration of the lower atmosphere, typically caused by fine suspended particles)
ethergenic: A system that has both thoughtforms/tulpas and soulbonds in prominent enough amounts that the system as a whole feels like their origins are both.
(Ether - space, stillness, that which contains and holds. The implication being that both thoughtforms and soulbonds come "from the ether" of sorts)
Diformogenic: A system that has thoughtforms/tulpas of both psychological and metaphysical emergences, and feel the two are separate enough to consider them different origins.
(Formo - derivative of "thoughtform". Di - a prefix meaning “two,” “twice,” “double”)
morphogenic: A rough synonym for Originflux. A mixed system that started out as one origin, however a majority of members identify with a different origin, making the original one much less prominent.
(Metamorphosis - a change of the form or nature of a thing or person into a different one)
Free for any systems to use! Sysmeds dont touch 💙
- 🌘
