Changes in the Oil and Gas Industry Mean Changes for Industrial Degreaser Production and Use
The oil and gas industry influence the headlines today. The United States, on the back of expanded oil & gas production, has reclaimed the industry titan status that it held until just after World War II. As other major production nation-states such as Russia, Venezuela, and Iran have fallen into chaos or disrepute, USA-based production has kept global prices stable and affordable.
Impact of Hydrofracturing and Increased Scrutiny
What made the sudden re-emergence of American energy production possible has been the advanced hydrofracturing technology that made it possible to cost-effectively access Marcellus Shale and other deep sources. The Appalachian states, the Dakotas, Texas, and other areas boast massive reserves at the Marcellus depth and even deeper at the Utica level.
Changes in production techniques, however, brought increased scrutiny from government agencies and, occasionally, less than well-informed pressure groups. In response, oil and gas companies have accepted a greater obligation to ensure that their chemical footprint, including industrial degreaser formulation, adheres to strict guidelines designed to protect the environment.
The Importance of Using Proper Degreasers
Degreasers do not merely clean equipment to make it look pretty and shiny. They serve the important purpose of removing old oil and grease, which almost always has picked up dust, dirt, grime, and other substances that affect viscosity and lubricant performance. Allowing heavy equipment and other items to go too long without thorough degreasing can affect performance and even result in damaged goods
Traditional Makeup and Use of Degreasers
Historically, industrial degreaser formulation prioritized effective cleaning solutions and did not take environmental risks into account. When properly used, stored, and disposed of, they constituted a relatively small threat. A handful of irresponsible actors, however, had the potential to cause great harm locally and even distances away.
Some of the problematic substances used included acid and alkali degreasers and toxic surfactants and solvents, but emulsifiers created some of the worst problems. These degreasers use water in the cleaning process, which results in large amounts of wastewater saturated with toxic hydrocarbons. An accidental spill of such substances can create serious environmental devastation.

FOXGEL XV XANTHAN GUM POLYSACCHARIDE GELLING AGENT
The base technology of Fox Chem Technologies FoxGel HT Xanthan gum drilling fluid is Xanthan, a natural polymer, generated by the bacteria Xanthomonas Campestris and produced commercially by a fermentation process. It is composed of three monosaccharides – mannose, glucose, and glucuronic acid, arranged in a highly branched structure with an estimated molecular weight of 5 million. Xanthan’s polar side chains provide sites for extensive hydrogen bonding with water and interactions between polymer chains that give rise to a helical structure in solution. FoxGel HT liquid biopolymer is a high-purity cross-linked Xanthan suspended in ultra-clean mineral oil and biodegradable surfactants for ease of mixing. It is not subject to particle settling or fluid separation under normal storage or transport conditions. Starting with an environmentally friendly fluid and utilizing our unique suspension technology, we eliminate settling of the FoxGel HT while the product remains fully pourable. The long-term stability of the suspension provides for consistent, reliable product properties at your field locations any place in the world. This type of structure allows for a significant increase in solution viscosity, especially at low shear rates. The physical properties of FoxGel HT have led to its use in a variety of drilling and completion applications. It is readily soluble in hot and cold water and brines over a wide pH range. In aqueous solutions, FoxGel HT is highly pseudoplastic and shows stability to a wide range of temperatures and pH changes. FoxGel HT has unique resistance to thermal degradation at temperatures up to and over 300°F, but at the same time is susceptible to degradation by enzymatic and oxidizing agents – these properties are ideal for drilling, completions, and fracking. FoxGel HT was cross-linked using a proprietary ionic process yielding an eco-safe, biodegradable, compound with enhanced pseudoplastic properties required to move large amounts of solids. It’s unique ‘scaffolding’ molecular structure makes the product an excellent suspending agent to carry cuttings from drilling and completion operations. FoxGel HT’s rheological properties are particularly well suited to oilfield applications in that it’s pseudoplastic and produces high viscosity while at rest.
Xanthan Gel Drilling Mud Viscosifier Advantages:
Easy to handle and mixes well in low shear environments
The extremely stable suspension provides reliable properties
Freeze/thaw cycle does not affect the stability or performance of the product
Optimized bit hydraulics resulting in higher penetration rates (increased ROP)

Should the Industry Stand Pat on the Environmental Front During a Friendly Administration?
The breathing space created by the Trump Administration has led to a healthy boost in oil and gas production in the US, which has shaken up the global market. Once mighty OPEC has lost the leverage it used for decades against industrial countries lacking their own resources. Even Qatar abandoned the formerly robust association and pledged billions in investment in both oil and gas production in the US. Also, expanding pipeline capacity led to last year serving as the highest oil production year ever in the US. Much of the impetus in the market comes from the confidence that President Donald Trump will not impose unreasonable regulations on the industry, especially in the environmental sector. With a production-friendly president in the White House and US fossil fuel pollution emissions expected to drop this year, should the industry shift resources away from advancing environmentally friendly technology, techniques, and products? This includes everything from drilling to oil rig cleaning services. Or, should the industry continue to push forward to continue the gradual improvement in environmental practice?
Should the Oil and Gas Industry Concentrate on Non-Environmental Issues for Now?
Some may argue that substantial improvements in emissions combined with a reduced threat from the federal government mean that the industry can focus on different priorities. The industry has embarked on a plan of upscaling production and distribution and needs an infrastructure capable of reliable delivery. Like federal and state highways, however, age and neglect have made repairs and replacement necessary. There are also foreign policy benefits from heightened exports. As Russia lurches back into an adversarial position against the US, cheaper American gas can undercut the industry that pays the Bear’s bills. Industry resources are not unlimited. Shifting some away from environmental advancement, at least in the short term, can help to set the foundation for future growth.
Environmental Advancement Protects the Industry in the Long Term
The reality, however, dictates that the motivation of those who oppose natural gas and oil development will not simply disappear. A smart long-term strategy for the industry should lie in enhancing environmental performance as much as possible. This extends even to the use of products such as degreasers and other products and processes. Continuing to strive toward cleaner extraction and production, especially during the Trump presidency, will demonstrate that the industry holds a serious commitment to improving itself.
Why the US Oil and Gas Industry Needs to Keep Striving for Environmental Improvement
For both the long and short-term sustainability of the industry, the industry needs to focus on both infrastructure and environmental advancements. The US oil and gas industry needs to invest more in infrastructure. Additionally, the emerging US dominance of world oil and gas markets takes power and leverage out of the hands of other producers who have used past American weakness to their advantage. However, the good times can end with the passage of a single law or the issuing of an executive order. A future president and/or Congress can pass laws and regulations that can change the US market dramatically. Luckily, today’s economy allows for a somewhat expanded pie compared to previous years. Resources are available to gradually push forward on multiple fronts, ensuring that we can continue to safely and effectively supply America and much of the world with ample and cheap energy while also improving our own environmental protection standards.

Who We Are | Indigo Fluids
Indigo Fluids is a technology company focused on manufacturing innovative chemical products that optimize hydrocarbon life-cycle.
We have developed a complete product line for the drilling and workover segment of the oilfield.
FOX partners with regional service providers to deliver their technology and support the end-user on a localized basis. FOX is Louisiana and Texas-based and was formed in 2013 to bring unique and innovative chemistry to the oil and gas industry.
Indigo Fluids sets itself apart from the others by thinking and doing things “outside the box.” The competition already had gels, polymers, and lubricants, but unfortunately relented to a commoditized way of thinking. They really just sell commodities & raw materials.
Indigo Fluids markets “unique” specialty compounds that are in a league of their own. Let’s face it, in order to grow a business we have to deliver results. In fact, we have to deliver better results than our competitors every day in order to keep growing.
While other companies market fewer product offerings because larger manufacturing batch loads equates to less cost and higher profitability. That trend needs to change. We remain a specialty company that will develop a compound based on one location – one well at a time in order to achieve the results that specializing individual applications brings.
We continually prove that profits and success follow results-oriented product development, not sales & profit-oriented product lines. What happened to the industry is that companies have fox-fed one technology into every possible application… so larger batches can be produced and inventory costs can be spread into fewer compounds.
Now is the time to redevelop and revitalize the specialty chemicals industry approach to providing solutions – one well… one application at a time. Our customers remain loyal because we offer high quality, unique products that are hard to find anywhere else.
Contact us today to find out more about our products and how we can best fulfill your needs.

The Importance of Oilfield Chemicals
The Importance of Oilfield Chemicals
On the oilfield, various kinds of chemicals can help you achieve higher efficiency in your processes and better productivity. While some of these chemicals get used in operations like exploration and oil well drilling, there are many that work for maintenance purposes like protecting your machinery from corrosion.
We’re an oil field company in San Antonio (USA) that specializes in manufacturing and distributing oilfield chemicals including emulsion breakers and corrosion inhibitors.
Corrosion Inhibitors
First up is corrosion inhibitors. Pipelines companies transport oil have very high corrosion risks due to the presence of water. Water has oxygen in it, and this is the main thing that causes corrosion in the oilfield lines. The oil line corrosion inhibitors are essential specialized chemicals that act as oxygen scavengers.
They work to absorb any of the oxygen that is present in the water in the oil. In turn, this safeguards the pipe itself from a reduction-oxidation reaction. This reaction occurs with ferrous and non-ferrous metals that meet oxygen and causes corrosion. Corrosion inhibitors can save downtime, costs, and material costs for replacement and repair.
Emulsion Breakers
When you produce oil from an oilfield, you’ll usually end up with significant amounts of water mixed in that gets added to the oil either through injection or naturally during the processes. You should separate the water from your oil because it can negatively impact your oil’s properties. It can also cause premature pipeline corrosion that can cost you thousands. This is where emulsion breakers come in on oilfields.
These are specialty chemicals that can seamlessly separate water and oil from your crude oil-water emulsions. Emulsion breakers work by a process called crude oil demulsification. This process causes a density change in the emulsion that makes it easier for this separation to happen. In turn, you can increase your crude oil value for exporting it. It also works to minimize your maintenance and operational costs that could spike if you have corrosion in your pipelines.
How Indigo Fluids Can Help
Indigo Fluids is an oil company in San Antonio, TX that manufactures and sells specialized oilfield chemicals like corrosion inhibitors and emulsion breakers. As we are an oil company, we understand the unique challenges that come with the oil extraction and separation process. In turn, we know exactly which chemicals you need to keep your equipment in top shape and how to get the most value out of your crude oil.
We can also recommend the best chemicals for your situation or needs, and we can tailor your order to you. You’ll never worry about quality when you work with Indigo Fluids, we guarantee it.

Oilfield Chemical Technology Trends for 2020 and Beyond
The international oilfield chemical technology market faces a number of challenges from outside of the industry. Iranian ambitions and Trump administration efforts to curtail them could produce instability in the Middle East. This will affect the global market much less than in previous generations, but will still carry an impact. Pressures from some nations to adhere to ever more stringent environmental demands could have a long term impact as well.
That all said, the market for various chemicals used in oilfield production has expanded in recent years and should continue to do so. Products such as industrial degreaser sprays will remain in high demand as production expands globally, particularly in the United States.
What Products the Industry Uses
The oilfield industry relies on a wide variety of chemical products to ensure the smooth and safe functioning of equipment. These products include:
Industrial degreaser sprays
Chemical cleaners
Drilling fluids and other lubricants
Completion and coiled tubing fluids
Various specialty production chemicals
Chemical products specific to hydrofracturing operations
These chemical products mainly ensure that equipment remains clean and lubricated as it drills for and extracts the oil.
State of the Industry
As American production continues to elevate the United States into the top rank of oil and gas producers, most experts predict that the price of oil will remain under $100 a barrel. In many cases, this means that the price of oil is less than the cost of production. Low prices mean thin profit margins, which pushes companies toward adopting measures for efficiency and cost savings.Companies that produce top-quality oilfield chemical products should be able to take advantage of this trend, particularly those that optimize equipment performance and deliverability, as well as those that help to promote environmental compliance. Corrosion inhibitor chemicals, for example, will experience growth because they lengthen the useful life span of pipeline equipment. Corrosion of pipelines represents one of the biggest factors in downtime. These and other products that help prevent costly breakdowns and keep equipment running more effectively should see solid growth in the next few years.Emulsion breakers and other products that help to separate oil from water should also witness solid gains.By 2024, the global market for oilfield chemicals will reach over $37 million, with a little under one-third of that spent in the United States.
What to Expect Going Forward
Oil exploration and field development will continue to move into non-traditional fields, especially offshore and deepwater environments. This new direction in oil extraction will require increased use of chemicals that are different from traditional vertical land well development. The use of horizontal drilling, often associated with deep wells that use hydrofracturing, will continue to expand in the United States. Although the shale sources of oil and gas in Texas, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and elsewhere promise large scale production for generations, the industry will continue to focus on efficiency and optimizing production from each individual well. As was stated before, this commitment requires the use of high-quality oilfield chemical products to ensure the best possible functioning of equipment and other resources.Another major challenge, or opportunity, lies in the increasing global demand for more eco-friendly chemicals, especially in oil and gas production. The new environmentalism not only focuses on the impact of the final product but also its production process. How big of an impact does the company make when making its chemical products will increasingly factor into regulation and awareness. Companies will face tremendous pressure, especially from Europe, to create products that will affect the environment less than has been the case in the past. While challenges abound in the field, companies that look ahead should continue to prosper and even thrive in an admittedly difficult and uncertain environment.

What is drilling fluid? How does it work?
Drilling fluid, also known as drilling mud, has several purposes in the life of a well. Generally, it is used to help drill boreholes in the earth. Drilling fluid provides hydrostatic pressure, preventing formation fluids from entering the well and causing a blowout. It keeps the drill bit cool and lubricated while drilling, and avoids formation damage and limits corrosion. It sounds simple, but how do the drilling fluids really work? Is it as simple as pouring them in a hole and waiting? What do the fluids do? We’ll explain a little as to just how these fluids can assist in your good operations.
What are drilling fluids/drilling mud?
Drilling fluids can be water-based, oil-based, or synthetic-based. At Indigo Fluids, we have all three different bases. Simply put, they are liquids used in the drilling process. The type of fluid used is based on the material of the rock formation; clay, salt, or something else, and the environmental impact the fluids will have in the given area. We recommend water-based drilling fluids for offshore drilling.
What does drilling fluid do in the oilfield?
With the oilfield technology that we have today, drilling fluids can be used for more than one function in the field. Depending on the job being performed, the duty of the drilling fluid changes.Drilling fluids cool drill bits and reduce torque on the pipe. They can reduce drag and move heat away from the entire pipe string. The quality of the fluids can make a difference in how well these fluids work in your well. At Force Chem, we stand by the quality of our products. Here are a few tasks that our drilling fluids are used for each day.
Remove cuttings from the well
In this case, the fluids carry the excavated rock to the surface of the earth. Think of a river carrying sediment to the mouth of a river. This is similar. The size and shape of the rock and the speed of the fluid controls which rocks are carried to the surface. If the fluids are moving swiftly, larger chunks of rock are able to move to the surface, but if it is moving too slowly, the rock chunks will settle in the well. We recommend using Force Fluids Viscosifiers to stop shavings from settling at the bottom of your well.
Controlling Formation Pressures
Drilling fluids help control the pressures within the well, keeping the wellbores stable. Fluid density is increased when formation pressure increases, keeping a balance. When formation pressures are not balanced, we’ve seen unexpected influxes of formations fluids, leading to blowouts. The hydrostatic pressure in the well is directly related to the density of the drilling fluids. We know the hydrostatic pressure should be equal to the formation pressure to allow for complete good control. At Force Chem, we use our drilling fluids to make sure there are no uncontrollable formation fluids flowing into the wellbore. Limiting fluid density to the minimum amount necessary reduces the chance of fracturing the formation.
Cool and lubricate the drilling assembly
As with any technology, heat is created when the drill is in motion. The drill string rotates and rubs against the wellbore, causing friction. Our drilling fluids move heat away from the bit and the drill string, cooling them off and lowering the temperature in the wellbore. This allows the bit and the drill string to continue working, with less failure. Poor lubrication can cause torque and heat checking, creating problems in the wellbore. Most often, oil-based or synthetic-based fluids are used in these instances as we know they tend to lubricate better than water-based fluids. We have a Force line of drilling fluids to choose from, depending on the project. With so many uses for drilling fluids, it’s easy to see why oilfield technology is centered around them. We can use this product for so many different processes, simplifying things in an already complex world. With all the uses, we know drilling fluids are likely to become an even more valuable asset to the oil industry.

FoxFree High-Pressure Drilling Lubricant For OilField Applications
Drilling penetration speeds increased by 200% – 400% & thermally stable to >400°FFoxFree is a special high temperature, high-pressure Drilling Lubricant For OilField Applications that are designed off patented technology to reduce torque and drag in the water and oil-based drilling mud systems. FoxFree is perfectly complimented by using our FoxGlide friction reducer when used in tandem, to reduce drilling time as well as eliminate problems like differential sticking and bit balling.FoxFree is a highly complex drilling fluid lubricant designed specifically to speed drilling by reducing torque and lubricating at the high compressive point of the drill bit to formation contact. It does so by lowering surface tension at the interfacial point of force developed between the drill bit and the formation. Capillary forces are controlled for optimum penetration by allowing lubrication surface-active agents and lubricant oils to concur on the substrate. Unlike other lubricants that simply apply the capillary forces of repulsion to lower the entropic repulsion forces, FoxFree establishes a lubrication regime across the complete project by employing unique surfactant molecules that diffuse through the oil in water emulsion to become absorbed by the substrate in order to lower the surface potential. At these shorter interaction times, of relevance to tribology, oil capillary junctions and islands of the adsorbed surfactants coexist on the substrate reducing torque and speeding penetration. FoxFree works well in sandstone, shale, dolomite, limestone, basically, all drilling formations as its torque reducing qualities will prove out immediately upon application. When applied on high compressive strength cement drill outs, penetration speeds are increased by 200 – 400% while avoiding bit failure. The product mitigates drill bit balling and adhesion while yielding a cleaner, more stable drilling regimen. The product is thermally stable to >400°F and is a non-regulated material that can be easily shipped, handled, and stored.Composition:FoxFree is a proprietary blend of non-polluting surfactants. It is non-flammable, improving worksite safety and is biodegradable. FoxFree is used as a drilling fluid or mud additive.
FoxFree Torque Reducing Compound Benefits:
Understudies against many competing products FoxFree outperformed comparable products by 1500psi
The lubricity of drilling muds is improved upon application
It reduces friction between all of the components downhole.
Torque and Drag are common with operations in directional and crooked holes. FoxFree can reduce and minimize the torque and friction
Outstanding, highly-effective drilling lubricant.
Rapidly disperses into the mud system for penetration to the drill bit-formation interface.
The concentrated product reduces logistics costs.
Mitigates adhesion and bit balling.
Compatible with other chemistries present.
Environmentally safe; USDOT Non-regulated.
Thermally stable downhole (>400°F) in drilling & completion environments.
Penetration speeds are increased by 200 – 400% while avoiding bit failure
Bit Balling Treatment
Aids in stopping bit balling. Prevents mud and scale build-up by forming a protective barrier around the drilling bit. As a result, drill bits and drill collars are preserved and noticeably more productive when FoxFree FR  is present in the drilling mud.Application:FoxFree should begin being applied shortly after spudding in order to avoid drill bit wear and torque at the onset of drilling. The optimum amount of FoxFree in most applications will require mixing 0.5 (two quarts) to 1.5 gallons (six quarts) per 5  barrels of aqueous or oil-based drilling mud fluid present. The product can be added to a pill or sweeping fashion depending on needs and conditions.Source:

FoxGlide Pipe On Pipe Friction Reducer & Differential Sticking Lubricant For Oilfield Applications
Outperforms every competitive chemistry tested to date. Thermally stable downhole (>400°F).
FoxGlide is a highly complex, water dispersible, lubricant designed specifically to reduce frictional resistance (drag) encountered with coiled tubing, drill out, and completion operations in horizontal wellbores. The extreme pressure lubrication qualities of FoxGlide coupled with the capillary repulsion fox of its complex nature enables heavy filming on metal surfaces that contact other metal and dense surfaces thereby giving the product its nickname – “Pipe-on-Pipe”. Friction is measured as the coefficient of friction (μ). The coefficient of friction (μ) between two solids is defined as F/W, where F denotes the frictional fox and W is the load or fox. When FoxGlide was tested for lubrication coefficient results based on the surface to surface drag apparatus at the equivalent forces of 5,000 psi it outperformed every competitive compound applied. The same results are field-proven daily to underscore the practice of repulsion tribology applied in its development.
Helps Prevent Differential Sticking
FoxGlide lubricant is a drilling mud/fluid additive. It is recommended when torque, drag, and the possibilities for
differential sticking
are present. This is a PIPE-ON-PIPE version of our industry-leading
FoxFree drilling lubricant
. The viscosity of FoxGlide is tailored to assist in metal to metal friction situations and can also be used as a spotting fluid for stuck pipe applications. It is a proprietary blend of non-polluting surfactants and is non-flammable in addition to being biodegradable.
Pipe on pipe Lubricant Advantages
Outstanding, highly effective lubricant for horizontal wellbores.
Rapidly disperses into the mud system for penetration to the point of frictional resistance.
Outperforms every competitive chemistry tested to date.
Compatible with other chemistries present.
Environmentally safe; USDOT Non-regulated.
Thermally stable downhole (>400°F).
A Great All-Purpose Pipe-on-Pipe Friction Reducer
It reduces friction between all of the components down-hole
Torque and Drag are common with operations in directional and crooked holes. FoxGlide can reduce and minimize torque and friction.
Helps Prevent Stuck Pipe Due To Mud Ring
Drill bits and drill collars are preserved and noticeably more productive when FoxGlide is present in the drilling mud.
Assists in the prevention of bit balling.
FoxGlide has been tested against many competitive products. Under these studies, it was shown to outperform comparable products by 1500psi
The lubricity of drilling muds is improved upon application
Keeps your drilling operation productive by keeping the drill bit clean and free of debris
ApplicationMost applications of FoxGlide occur when frictional resistance problems are encountered to prevent helical buckling. FoxGlide should be added at the rate of 1.0 % by volume or 2 gallons to 5 barrel pills for sweeping immediate lubrication. The total system can be operated well at 0.5% by volume for a complete lubrication paradigm. Most operators have found the addition of mechanical lubrication based on minute glass beads found in our
FoxBeads drilling beads
gives them the ultimate form of lubrication – chemical and mechanical. It also works well with our Fox K-Chlor KCl Substitute – Clay & Shale Stabilizer.
