What is your opinion on the movie Split, if you have seen it, with regards to how it depicts DID? Because like I feel like someone with DID would be offended but at the same time don’t KNOW whether they actually would be? Like when I see anti-asexual or anti-Irish sentiment and think “Hmm. Well that is certainly offensive from an objective viewpoint, but am I personally offended?” I do feel like if the twist behind the ‘Beast’ alter being superhuman was that he had been bitten by a werewolf, because there were so many hints towards him being a werewolf and the whole backstory they gave the protagonist about being a hunter, I feel like it would have suited the story better and avoided the ‘all people with DID are evil’ trope. Am I saying this right?
Sort of I guess? I personally am very offended by the movie since we are already seen as monsters in our every day life. When I tell people I have DID I have had people genuinely be scared of me. It’s horrifying to know there is still content being made like the movie Split.
And no, the movie would not be better if it was like that. It still includes an “evil” alter. It can give an explanation for the behavior but still demonizes the disorder as a whole. /nm
I can totally see where you are coming from though! Thank you for the ask :)!

would you say all "endogenic" systems are traumagenic, but unaware? /curious, not mean
Unsure honestly, probably not all of them (since some symptoms of DID/OSDD are similar to other illnesses like schizophrenia and BPD)
But a decent amount of the time that’s what it is. And if it isn’t? They are probably not a system and have another illness. But it’s okay to be wrong! When learning about yourself things like this happen and I don’t think we should shame people for trying to learn about themselves

Hi! I'm, as far as I know, a singlet (I've had my doubts but that's were I am for the time being) but my friend is starting to realize that she may have did. She doesn't know for sure yet, but it's a possibility she's considering and, from my perspective, it seems kind of likely. I have some mixed feelings and I wanted to talk to someone with experience, but I also don't want to just toss everything into your inbox without consent. Do you mind if I talk about it? ◇
You’re totally free to talk about it!

i have a question. well.. I'm hearing voices that have different personalities, way to act, preferences... etc. but when i hear one of them, if he/she is aggressive, i feel more aggressive and i risk to say things i don't think to people. recently i read about being a system without switching, but only staying in co front and with passive influence. is that actually possible?
(i dissociate and have amnesia, but I'm not able to say if someone switched or if it's simply me with a bad memory)
That is actually possible! I’m not an expert on it as I have DID but I think that falls under OSDD.
Being influenced and/or constantly being in co-front can be totally normal for some systems. It doesn’t make you any less valid.
Since I don’t know a lot about this topic I grabbed some resources for you!

Hopefully this can help you out! Feel free to come back to our ask box whenever. We wish you the best of luck!

not … the random anon lordt i’m SO sorry. i’m in a system who has mainly stayed out of discourse till now & therefore i don’t know most of the proper research etc. uhh what is lancers & pavilion? thanks for all you do
AHHH ily anon 💖
I'M SO GLAD YOU ASKED, BECAUSE I WILL PROMO THIS BLOG EVERY CHANCE I GET, IT'S FANTASTIC
@pluraldeepdive covers a huge amount of online plural history from a neutral standpoint, and they say it better than I ever could. Here's a good overview of these two groups.
But, very quick and dirty history.
The endogenic community largely stems from the natural multiple movement. Also known as empowered multiples. These empowered multiples considered themselves to be... Above those dirty, disordered systems. They were "functioning", as opposed to survivor multiples. They were more intelligent, confident and didn't need therapy or help. They believed that it was impossible to be DID and empowered at the same time. These were the original groups that wanted to demedicalize DID. This was one of the first anti-DID, anti-psych movements. They weren't traumatized. They didn't have trauma. Eventually, it turned into, "you don't need trauma," and now, it is what it is today, but you can still see those core, base concepts in endogenic beliefs and stances.
Astraea, lancers and pavilion were the leaders in these movements, but lancers and pavilion were the... Crueler ones. Flat out hate groups, honestly.
@pluralitycritique also did an amazing post about the empowered multiples. I really recommend reading theirs, as well.
When endogenics can talk about this part of their history, I'll entertain one in my inbox.

Do you support endos
I’m unsure honestly 😰
On one hand I’ve seen people actively claim they are faking for attention under that tag but… they could be misinformed/undiagnosed systems so I can’t be too harsh honestly…
But endos as a whole i dont like it much since the premise of it is taken from another culture and twisted.
This is why we aim to teach. I don’t want people to get hated on just for not having all the rights facts/ not understanding.

People do realize it’s okay to be a dissociative System, right? That it’s okay to be dissociative and to have trauma that other alters hold behind amnesiac barriers? It isn’t some dirty thing, or something to be ashamed of. It doesn’t make you a freak, or a monster, or a danger to/for others. It’s okay to have DID, and even OSDD, because your brain is protecting itself - and you. DID is a dissociative disorder, and it’s that dissociative amnesia between you and your alters that keeps everyone “safe” (to an extent).
DID means “Dissociative Identity Disorder”, and I feel like that’s something that has been forgotten to some people. Dissociation is first, and the identities that come of it are second. You dissociate to forget, to have someone else come front and take the brunt of whatever stress or trauma that is happening. It is a defense mechanism for the mind, specifically to deal with trauma. Dissociation happens to cope with trauma.
We’ll speak more on this in another post, but for now, here’s this reminder:
It’s okay to be a dissociative - a.k.a ‘traumagenic’ - System. You are not a horrible person for this. You are a survivor. You are not a danger to others because of your disorder. It’s okay to be a dissociative System. It’s okay to have DID/OSDD.

Quick question! We’ve been having a hard time not splitting recently, does anyone have any tips on slowing it down and hopefully keeping it from happening? We know the root cause it’s just trying to manage it being the problem;;

I’ve been seeing posts like these on Instagram for other misunderstood mental illnesses, so I thought I’d have a go at making one myself.
I think that one of the most frustrating misconceptions about DID is that it is just about having alters or “multiple personalities” as some laypeople see it.
Alters are just one part of Dissociative Identity Disorder.
The information above is paraphrased and simplified from the book Coping with Trauma-Related Dissociation by by Kathy Steele, Onno van der Hart, and Suzette Boon.
The majority of the information above also applies to people with OSDD, since they have many of the same symptoms and experiences as people with DID.
[ Note: I’m not a mental health professional or educator. I’m just a person living with DID. This post is not intended to diagnose anyone. Please speak to a mental health professional if you need help. ]
