Daily Inspiration
10 posts
Due to my severe lack of creativity and longing for simpler days when imagination came naturally- I decided to try this blog out for the year of 2018. As I am reading the Artist Way by Julia Cameron and doing my morning pages, I am hoping to make some sort of shift in my creative world. Along with coming up with ideas more, I want to be taking more pictures. So every day, I will take a picture of whatever, people, trees, cement, dogs, something that has inspired me and write my little idea or inspiration I had that day. The name began when a Lagunitas 12th of Never beer can was left in the freezer too long and came out slooshy, but when I opened it, it began slowly fizzing out beer as it melted. I continued to slurp it off the top rim and this continued to happen for 5 minutes. It was like Marry Poppins purse but beer, bottomless and I didn't think it would end. I thought- what if there was a can of beer that never ended, and some drunky teens discovered it and there was a whole film about this magic beer can, but someone had to constantly be drinking it in order to keep the magic happening. Also, I guess it could be a metaphor for what I hope this blog will be for me. My brain is frozen and blocked up, but once I open it up the creativity will be infinite. It's dumb, but whatever. I couldn't think of another name that wasn't cliche.

Middle aged landlords, somewhat isolated from the world around them, and without children, decide they would like to learn what the younger generations are up to try to restore their youth .  They decide to rent out their studio to a couple and install cameras to learn about their way of life. They apply their observations to their own life- wearing similar clothing, listening to similar music, using similar slang. The younger couple grows suspicious when the older couple brings up things in conversation no one should know besides themselves.

But there is a new movement in this generation, and they want to see whats outside of their small world and learn from the others. He leads the pack and break from the system to finds out all the ugly truths of it all.

Quirky- Indie -Sundance cue
Two young people find themselves in love. Both have separately made the life decision to abstain from sex. He is celibate and abstaining for God, she was raped by her neighbor.
Knowing their commonality helped their acquaintance become a relationship. They learn their love is strong, though, and their erotic world begins to loom over them in all other ways of expressing it than sex. They can’t get enough of each other. They question their original beliefs as their perspective of sex shifts. Maybe it’s less bad and ugly, and beautiful when it’s with someone you love?
They begin to become intimate. Not just intimate, they have sex all they time. They can't get enough of it.
He continues to go to church, and decides to confess his sins, including the sex. The priest tells him it’s not too late to change his ways.
Struggling to find the words to tell her, he eventually decides to tell his love that he would like to be celibate again. It’s hard for her, but after some lengthy conversation she agrees that she is okay with it. After all, she loves him.
The relationship continues, but the intimacy plummets. It wasn’t just the sex she missed, it was the touch, the seductive looks, the feeling of being craved and wanted.  Their relationship wasn’t the same. There was a space there that wasn’t there before. Even kisses she would be pushed away, he didn’t want to cross any lines like before. It scared her and left her lonely. She tried to talk to him about it but he would shut down.
Slowly, she began fantasizing about other guys. She hated it and tried to control it, but it consumed her, especially when sleeping next to someone that made her feel lifeless. Coworkers became more intriguing, her boss was always cute, Jenna had that one friend she met at the BBQ... no no, she would tell herself, but then think of it all over again soon.
Then she is invited to a work party. She dresses up nicely and put’s on her favorite lipstick. Usually you bring your partner to these things, but she let him know that he wouldn’t enjoy it, she works with a bunch of jack asses and even just talking to them is energy spending.
1 drink, 2 drinks, 1 more, 1 too many. Josh was always cute. He looks at her in her eyes, at her breasts, and then back up to her eyes. He purses his lips in a way she likes. You can see the shape of his body through his formal shirt.
Oops.

A small town in rural Alabama rarely gets government assistance for an old and dilapidated road used by every resident in the town. Pot holes cover every few feet of the road and cars dodge them as if it’s game. The people call and ask for it to be repaved, but every year its “we will be out in a month”
One night, a group of young guys scheme at a bar. They leave the bar picking up spray cans out of one of their cars and walk out to the sad road and begin to paint their magic. They paint vulgar things, things that would offend the entire town.
Next morning, phones are ringing as dozens of locals complain about the horrible profanity and offensive drawings.
The road get’s pave the next day and it’s a victory for the town.

A VW bug is traveling down a hot dirt road in Mexico. A mother is in the front seat watching her two little girls in the rear view mirror smiling as the air from the window pushes their hair back and they listen to their iPods. The mother reflects on this great moment and knows it will be one she will remember for a long time.
Interrupting the nice moment is the sudden smell of gas. The rear view mirror is now filled with orange flames above the girls head, coming off the back of the bug. The mother panics as she looks ahead at a long empty dirt road in front of her. She is about to pull over when she sees a small sign of existence down the road, she continues, the girls are still just listening to their music and in their own worlds.
Finally, she pulls up to a small gas station, jumps out of the car and grabs her girls. she runs into the store and yells for help while pointing at her car in flames. A young Mexican boy, around 12 years  old and the only one being the counter of the store, grabs a big bottle of coke and shakes it as he runs towards the fire, and undoes the cap to explode the soda out of the bottle and onto the flames like a fire hydrant, putting the fire out.

A VW bug, manufactured in the early 60′s, sold to a young American suburban family who loved and abused it. Cherished and treats it well for its time and then neglected. moves to the next family, sold for much cheaper, and then the next for practically nothing. Its a catalyst to see different versions of American families and understand that no matter how different we all seem, we are all alike from family issues to deep sadness in our careers, to unspoken insecurities.

Foggy evening view from the tiny house.
Dark Child by Marlon Williams is my inspiration for today. There is a little three year old girl, Cora, that lives in that RV with her Mom. She has blonde curls, plump cheeks and beautiful eyes that look like big blue galaxies. I thought of her when I listened to the lyrics. I imagine her and her father dancing, laughing, but all painful. Trying to keep a small child happy during their short time on earth, but also struggle to hold back tears when as you watch your child fade. I can't imagine that. I hope I never have to go through that.

I cherish times where I can do simple things like cleaning my face with different facial products and make my skin feel bright and soft. Putting on lipstick for whatever outfit I am wearing. Feminine things that seem negligible but somehow give me happiness and comfort when starting my day. I don't know how many other people feel this way, but I assume every woman has some version a routine that helps them take on the day. I thought of women though that doesn't have the space or stuff  to have a routine like this. Homeless, and can’t have any privacy in her own bathroom to freshen up and give herself a sense of femininity. Doesn’t even have to be sleeping on the street. even in her car or borrowing a friends couch, which ever it is, I imagine its hard to find a sense of self and privacy.
A girl wakes up by the sound of a grocery cart rolling past. She is in her car, on a cot mattress and seats folded forward. There is are clothes thrown about the car along with water bottle and protein bar wrappers. She pushes her curly blonde hair out of her face as she sits up. She quickly reaches to the front of the car for her thermos and throws on a lined jean jacket. She walk out into the grocery in front of her and to the cafe in the corner of the store. She waits in line for her coffee as she rubs crust out of her eyes when a tiger taps her on the shoulder.
“Angela? Oh my gosh I haven't seen you in forever. How are you?”
It’s a tall man with a chiseled jaw and just enough facial hair to notice it’s beautiful. Fear comes over her face for a split second but then it is overcome by  a forced smile.
“Jeremy! wow, yes, Im good, just woke up, need coffee. um you?”“I’m good, listen you want to get a drink later, It’s been so long and I actually was just hoping to reconnect with you.”“Totally! yeah.”“Tonight?” They exchange numbers. Throughout the day she tries to figure out what to wear, checks her online banking, $17, she decides to go for a drive.
She drives through the suburban neighborhoods of her town. She comes across the biggest house out of the lane and with the most well kept front yard. She pulls over, grabs the steering wheel, and takes a deep breath. There is someone outside the house  picking up the mail.
Angela gets out of the car and  poops her hood. she puts her hand on her hip and finger to her chin. Let’s out a large sigh while simultaneously looking at the man on his lawn in the corner of her eye.
“Uh oh, something wrong with your car?” he says.
“Hmm, yeah, Im not totally sure what it is.”
“Oh her I can take a look-”
“Oh that would be great.”
He stands next to her hunched looking at the engine. She looks at  the wedding ring on his hand.
“ Say, is it okay if I use your bathroom? I’ve been on the road for a while”
“Sure sure, first room on the left”
She walks inside. She goes in the bathroom but it is obviously the guest bathroom with only a toilet and a sink. She checks behind her before moving into the house further. She comes upon the bedroom, with a bathroom meant for royalty attached to it.  She quickly locks the door behind her and jumps out of her clothes and into the shower. She picks the most expensive looking shampoo bottle of the selection and puts in some conditioning treatment. She hurriedly gets out of the shower and picks something to wear out of the closet, and closes the adventure with ruby red lip stick and a slight curl to her eye lashes with an eyelash curler. she puts her hat back on, big jacket over her nice new dress, and leaves, jumping into the car and ignoring the man who thinks he knows whats wrong with the car and also asking what took her so long.

Saw Lady Bird today. It was beautifully simple and genuine. Some movies push too much plot, or too much reason, too many characters to follow and stories to know. This one was verging on the end of too little. It almost had too little substance to have it be a story, no big moments that I will remember in a year, but it was still beautiful and I prefer it over the “too much” movies.
I thought I would find inspiration from that movie today, but I think it had the reverse effect. Sometime movies do that time me, they will put ideas in my head that are already done and I can't think outside of them.
But I thought of a girl reading seemingly her journal entries to the camera. its about 15 minutes of only reading, and would have to be intriguing enough writing with lots of character in order for the audience to not fall asleep. The journal entries are short little blips of a girls life hitting puberty, having crushes, falling in love, having sex, getting pregnant as a teen, deciding whether or not to get an abortion, the guys distance in the matter, having the baby, it’s a girl, she names her Lily. The girl reading looks up past the camera. It’s a mans voice on the other side of the camera that makes a sigh sound. She continues to read- lily as a baby, lily walks, lily tries lemon for the first time, lily has chicken pox, meeting a man, falling in love, how he loves lily and treats her as his own, has the family she always wanted (some sort of ties from beginning to end in there. and one more punch of a last entry. She looks up, eyes well up with tears and smiles. some sort of connection that tells the audience the mother passed and these journal entries were scavenged by the Dad

A young middle school boy wears a bright purple shirt and yellow bell bottom pants with colorful stripes. It’s my dad, and he is recounting these cringe worthy days. “ You must have had a lot of confidence?” Oh no, I was so insecure I didn’t have any friends”. “Well you didn't not have friends because of the outfit, were you hoping to make friends with the outfit?”
I’m still laughing.
I see a boy wearing this outfit with round glasses entering the gymnasium vibrating from the bass of horribly demeaning rap songs, too inappropriate for his innocent ears. He thinks the outfit will give him confidence but really it makes him shrink up into himself. He goes in and hangs around the red vines as people dance. Boys around him where baseball caps and black pants half way down their butts to show their grey boxers. They laugh at him, bump into him every once in a while interrupting his snacking. He watches the pretty girls dance with these boys. He watches one in particular wearing a red polka dot dress, twirling and making cool designs with her dress in the flashing colorful lights. It’s obvious all the boys are focused on her, but they take what they can get with the other girls. Suddenly the music changes pace to slow dance time. All the guys sigh as they back their crotches away from girls butts. The bell bottom boy always hated that, but now was his time to woo. He was comfortable with slow songs, and his body moved smoothly in those jeans.  Girls stand in one line and boys stand in another. They eye each other with the gap between them. The girls have to choose their partner. The girl with the red polka dots smirks and steps forward and grabs the yellow bell bottom boy by the belt loop and places her hand just above his butt. He pushes his glasses up and does the same to her smiling, and they sway to Fly me to the Moon.
