I believe that the practice of Kwanzaa is a very positive one. The principles observed help to empower unity, creativity and personal growth. I hope you participated! If not, take note of the principles and start practicing them now (because these principles are valid for more than just the holiday season), in preparation for next year!

Habari Gani Good People!! Happy Kwanzaa!!! Meditate on these 7 Principles for the week and check out @therealuba for our Kwanzaa 2016 Campaign!! #Kwanzaa #heritage #myAFRICANroots #7days #unitedblackamerica

3 Tips On Achieving Your Resolutions
A resolution is defined a decision to do or not do something. As I said previously, I’m not really into New Years Resolutions, however, if you are, here are a couple of tips on how to make sure you fulfill your resolutions:
Set Realistic Resolutions - Now, lets get something straight, when I say ‘realistic’ I don’t mean that you shouldn’t have high standards, I am saying that you should closely examine what you are trying to accomplish and what you are willing to sacrifice so that you set your resolutions accordingly. You can even start small and then adjust your resolution throughout the year. One of the reasons that resolutions often fail is because they are unrealistic. People may start the year with a specific resolution in mind (that is likely unrealistic) and then falter on it and give up. For instance, if you are a person that drinks 5 sodas everyday and then says that they are no longer go to drink any sodas for the whole year, unless you have tremendous will and determination, this may be an unrealistic resolution. However, if you say that you are going to cut that number in half, that might be a more realistic start. Start reasonable and then increase your goal. Reaching milestones can often act as a source of encouragement and inspiration to keep going.
Set Checkpoint Reminders - If you have set a New Years Resolution for 2017 and want to make sure it is achieved, take out your cell phone and/or calendar and set quarterly reminders for the year. Setting checkpoint reminders can be a great way for you to see how you are doing with your resolution. Sometimes, we get so caught up with daily life activities that resolutions are quickly forgotten. If you set reminders now, you’ll be encouraged to revisit what you set out to achieve throughout the year and your current standings.
Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself - If you miss a day or slip a couple of times, don’t be discouraged; keep going. Setbacks will happen, that is just the way that life works but if your resolution is important to you, keep going! If your resolution is not important enough to you to keep fighting, even in the midst of what might feel like failure, then set a different resolution.

2017
Personally, I’m not really a believer of “New Years Resolutions”. I’m more of a believer in adjusting accordingly, no matter what time of year it is. We must continuously be aware of ourselves, our current situations, where we want to be and what we are doing to get there so that we continuously change to accomplish our goals. I think it is good to have resolutions - whatever works for you, do it! But I also don’t think you should wait or feel that the only time to set goals is at the beginning of a new year. Every day we get a new opportunity to set goals and concur our fears. Because of this, I try to adjust myself throughout the year - hell, even throughout the day, if need be. Today marks the beginning of 2017, make it a great and productive year by working on your goals daily.

The Miseducation...of Nicki Minaj
By now, most of us have seen the clip of Nicki Minaj bowing down to Lauryn Hill when they met at the 2016 Tidal X performance. I’ve seen some people criticize Nicki for this show of appreciation for Ms. Hill because they think it was over the top.
While I believe that we are all human and equally flawed, I do appreciate Nicki for humbling herself to someone who came before her and helped to pave the way for her entry into the music business. In my opinion, I think that this type of appreciation for those who came before us, especially in the African American community, is often overlooked and frowned upon. Think about it, how many times have you recently heard people criticize the validity of Biggie or Tupac as two of the best rappers? To me, Nicki’s reaction was a sign of respect. Kudos to her!
Additionally, I’ve seen people criticize the impact of Lauryn Hill because she only had one solo album – to that, I say that this is a testament to what quality music can do. I grew up listening to Lauryn Hill and I can honestly say that no other album has had as big of an impact on my development as The Misedcuation of Lauryn Hill. That album was very well put together and was filled with so much truth. It was more than an album, it was more than music – it was music to the soul and a guidebook to some of the challenges you face when coming of age, especially as a black woman.
For those who criticize Nicki for paying homage because they believe that she is just as talented as Lauryn Hill, I’ll leave you with this quote: “another woman’s beauty is not the absence of your own”. I am very happy to see that Nicki recognized the meaning of this quote and wasn’t afraid to humble herself to the experience.

#SisterSolo thank you for this! Thank you for creating a song (and an album) that is so real, relate-able, thought-proving, reflective, forward thinking and F.U.B.U. Thank you for sharing pieces of yourself and eloquently expressing the feelings that many of us struggle to express. Thank you for reminding us that we aren't alone. As soon as I heard this song and 'listened' to the lyrics, I felt it - to my core. This song reaffirms the need for self-care and self-acceptance. You can hide from many things but you can't hide from yourself. Again, thank you for creating a body of work that I'm more than happy to support, bump in my car and spread the word about. Also, thanks for giving me some music that inspires me to be myself and to keep pushing even when I feel like giving up!
