FILM EXPERIENCE REVIEW: Elio

Yes, yes, I know, Disney bad, but guess what. I'd wanted to see this for like 2 years, so you bet your sweet ass I'm seeing it opening weekend. THE VENUE: Cinema 13 of the Galaxy 16. This is the Big One. By far the BEST cinema in at least a 20-mile radius. Hooked up for Dolby Atmos (and plays the Unfold trailer before every film; since 2019). Blockbuster house. THE CROWD: Less than half full on a prime time showing, in the middle of a heatwave in the Midwest. The top row was packed, though. As expected for a film like this, it was mainly parents and their children. THE TRAILERS: Trailers in adult-oriented films are passable, in front of blockbusters they're annoying, and in front of family films they are downright unbearable. But you're gonna get the condensed version because not even with those tire fires in wait will I stop my trailer recording streak. Now You See Me: Now You Don't (...why haven't I watched the first two yet? [distant voice: you were too young] right.) Gabby's Blatant Scheme to Siphon Cash from Parents of iPad Kids (it's moments like this where you question why you even came in early enough for the previews. kubrick-staring at the screen is a major indicator that it's going to suck) The Bad Guys 2 (GAAAH I LOVED THE FIRST ONE I AM SO HYPE OMGGGG) $murf$ (and there goes my enthusiasm again) Superman (despite all the major studio hype about this I'm not going. It's the superhero film and I swore myself off from those) Zootopia 2 (I member I had to trick my mum into taking me to the first one. Details may come in another FER if I can remember them.) Fantastic Four: First Steps (Like the faux-retro vibrations here, but the Incredibles did it better) THE FILM ITSELF: Unfortunately I watched part of some guy's YouTube review of the film the night before (it's not Dazz idk who he even is), so that clouded my judgement in some factor. I do believe that had that memo not been put out by Disney that this probably would have been a better film. But it's alright for what it does, and at least the Communiverse looks pretty enough. OVERALL RATING: 5 of 10. But see it anyway. OTHER REMARKS: The 6-year-old next to me kept stealing my popcorn. The heat index read at 105 degrees yesterday, so I was actively contemplating taking the bus and seeing it at the dollar theatre so I wouldn't have to go home in a hot car. And when I did go to the cinema I forgot my key to the house. My mum has a spare at her place so I had to go over there first and get it, and only AFTER I get back do I find out the door was unlocked anyway. And immediately after that the NEWS was on and I lost my faith in humanity again.
