It’s almost here! Ahead of the first chapters of Radiance & Gloom, here’s a little concept doodle of the main party of our adventure! From left to right: Scias, Cray, Fou-Lu, Ryu, Nina, Ursula, newcomer Pamoja, and the beloved Ershin!
Tried my best to reimagine what they’d appear like four years after the end of Breath of Fire IV’s story (both game and manga are converged into a singular continuity for my fanfic, hence Fou-Lu is present).
I changed up Scias’s outfit to give him trousers and a hooded tunic. Cray has grown out his golden mane, Fou-Lu got a haircut and fancy silks gifted by Nina (as a former emperor, he’s actually quite picky about his garments), Ryu doesn’t have a raggedy shirt anymore—I based his outfit’s color palette on BoF III Ryu. Nina’s got both a new outfit and longer hairdo. Ursula’s new outfit reflects her status as captain for a new unit of the military. Newcomer Pamoja is dressed in the colors of Capcom’s logo. And Ershin is Ershin!

To commemorate Breath of Fire IV’s 25th anniversary, I will post the first chapter in my fanfic on Archive of Our Own. Set four years after the events of Breath of Fire IV, this fanfic will be a convergence of both the video game and the manga versions of the story. Gear up for the next journey that awaits our beloved characters in “Radiance & Gloom”!
