Blind Eye

A request for Blind Eye Fiddleford from @inhervisionz that I totally ran with :)

The concept sketch! Totally reworked the pose but you can see the general idea. I still find it easier to get my thoughts down on paper but I’m getting back into digital slowly

Uh now I’m going to talk about the text and a book that literally no one else has read. By which of course I mean Last Exit by Max Gladstone, yet again. Because the parallels between Ish Colby and Fiddleford (specifically if you’re thinking during Blind Eye era mmm.

So, the text in the image is all mine, but drawing directly from some of the dialogue,style and themes of Last Exit.

What if you would follow the person you love(?) to the end of the world, but when you saw what waited out there you knew it would swallow you all whole. You make it back but you need to keep them all safe, you need to keep the darkness out and someone has to walk the line. It doesn’t matter how many people you hurt how many times you have to lie or control them so long as the world stays in one piece, and wouldn’t it be easier if they just listened to you? You hole up in your little world and you close your eyes and surely that will keep you safe. Don’t worry about the gun in your hands. It’s always been there. It’s how you keep the dark away.

Am I talking about Ish or Fiddleford? Oh it’s both! It’s both. Something about men who see alternate dimensions and are so deeply afraid all the time that they’d hurt everyone around them to stay safe. Also ominous literal Chekhov’s guns. Except fuck Ish he made me want to reach through the page and strangle him.

Also I debated writing in alphanumeric D’ni numerals but then decided that that was fucking insane and mixing two disparate pieces of media was more than enough. But in my heart D’ni numerals are there. Stanford Pines you would have loved Riven the sequel to Myst.
