But basically he starts out as normal Jon, but all his scars and stuff gradually turn into scales as he becomes more of an avatar until the story goes very non canon conforming

Also he can hide in his fish body, if he wants

Popular fanon Jon design (in regards to his hair) reminds me of the ember island play Zuko (as someone especially guilty of this)
