This "specially designed protective envelope" is merely the same paper envelope all other record companies used for LPs. Branded "TOPS" with the somewhat meaningless "ultra-phonic sound" designation. The old album I found this in did sound very nice, but it may not have originally been paired with this pretentious inner sleeve.

Opaque plastic Windham Hill Records and Tapes sleeve found within 1985 "A Winter's Solstice" compilation album. Showcases other albums on label in white print, listing them with catalog numbers and noting whether they are available on CD in addition to BASF chrome cassettes. Notes A&M as distributor.
Inside sleeve was a tri-fold pamphlet offering their mailing list, a defective records return slip, and a statement from the Windham Hill CEO on the then-controversial issue of taping your records onto a mini cassette tape at home. Sleeve printed in Canada.

Literally titled "The Inner Sleeve", this newspaper/ gazette-style marketing sleeve from Columbia solicits music lovers to send $3 to become a Columbia/ Epic adviser in what always to be a focus group who will receive and respond to sampler records supposedly containing "unreleased, or just-released songs". Displays a massive amount of text of questionable interest, even to an avid reader of liner notes like myself. Undated, but shows as edition 71 / 204 with a code on the reverse bottom of IC-3. Found within the 1957 album "Warm" with artist Johnny Mathis with Percy Faith and his Orchestra, catalog number CS 8039 from Columbia Masterworks - likely a reissue from the 1970s.

1976 Warner Records sleeve selling sampler album for $2 by mail. The coupon interestingly refers to the inner sleeve as a single word ("innersleeve"). Looks like a pretty cool, if extremely diverse, album.
