MEET QTS MANAGER KIERAN WESTON
IS QTS PLAYER/MANAGER KIEAN WESTON DESTINED FOR GREATNESS? Jamie-lee Weston UCFB Sport
Although Quality Teaching Standards FC are currently bottom of the league, there is a feeling that the team or in particular the team’s manager is going to succeed. This is because history does not lie.
Like many others as a child Kieran Weston joined a local football club named Austin Arrowheads FC. At 6 years old he played a game every Sunday and trained every Thursday. This is where he fell in love with football.
He continued to play for that team until the age of twelve. During that time, he gained a second father in Coach Neil Patterson, was made captain of the team for countless seasons and at the age of eleven he won the club’s Chairman Cup. The Chairman’s cup is a cup that can be awarded to any individual involved with Austin Arrowhead Football Club and is won by players and coaches nominating who they think embodies what the club is about most. So, at the age of eleven he had already become a leader that inspires.
Kieran Weston at eleven years old and winning his first trophy the prestigious Chairman’s Cup with Austin Arrowhead coach Neil Patterson and Chairman Tony Overton.
With all careers Kieran Weston’s has had its highs and its lows. With his leadership qualities and talent on the pitch he had a trial session with Tottenham Hotspur Academy. But failed to impress and therefore, a career in playing football was slimmed down to a dream. But with new team Knebworth FC at twelve he captioned his team to a cup final glory and a double win of the League domestically.
There was also the recurring injuries that any player in football knows, this was ligament damage in his left ankle. This injury came from a common tackle when Kieran was fourteen. But fearing it would stop him leading his team succeed on the pitch he continued to play. His need to lead his team meant he had to play every game in severe pain and had to live with the pain in everyday life.
Due the severity of damage Kieran was given the dreaded order of having to have surgery in order for him to play football again. So, in March 2019 whilst juggling coaching a team and studying in his first year of university to become a PE teacher Kieran had the surgery. For 3 months after the surgery he had to face limited mobility whilst still living away from home. He also had to face the fact the course for being a PE teacher is very gruelling mentally and physically and his injury could have potentially ruined his future.
But the stats do not lie and in May 2019 he passed his first year of university so his dream of leading future generations was not just that a dream. He also inspired his peers as he was nominated to become the Player/ Manager of Quality Teaching Standards FC for another year.
But with four members of QTS’s squad sharing a house with the manager it currently must feel like a challenge for Kieran to get his men to succeed. But as previously proven Kieran Weston does not shy away from a challenge and being bottom of the Parklife League is just one challenge of many he will face in his life. So, let’s see what how he and his team handle the pressure for the rest of the season.

SECOND HALF TWEETS QTS V EASTPORN FC
30’ With Eastporn ahead 1-0. QTS need to start strong if they want anything from this game. 31’GOAL!!!! and its 2-0 to Eastporn QTS GK Sam Johnson tries to come out and clear but Eastporn’s Giles Patterson knocks the ball past him as if he wasn’t there. 32’QTS do not have seem to have a reply with the GK Johnson’s goal kick aimed straight at his opposite number. 33’ Since going 2-0 down the only player likely to create a moment of magic is QTS’s Harry Gunnill. 35’Frustation is evident today for QTS and Player/Manager Kieran Weston is taking no chances by substituting Ryan Bennett. His close call tackle with Eastporn’s Sam Elliott could have cost him the game. He is substituted for Kendall. 36’ QTS FINALLY some possession of the ball. But a miles wide shot from Sperring squanders QTS’s chances of getting back into the game. 38’ A Goal kick to Eastporn has led to Callum Wood testing the QTS defence. But a save from Johnson means a corner to Eastporn. But the corner is dealt with easily. 39’ The bragging rights not to be bottom of the league are a constant factor in this game. With a foul on QTS’s Gunnill. A free kick has been awarded. Is this QTS’s way back into the game? 40’ SO CLOSE! What a ball from Stannard, to give Price the opportunity to square it at the keeper. But it gets knocked over the bar! 42’ With QTS’s best chance coming in the 40th minute it highlights that the team struggle without key players Dan Geal and David Amarteifio. So, will that missed opportunity haunt QTS later? 45’With Eastporn’s Giles Patterson dispossessed in the middle of the pitch QTS look to counterattack but it falls short. 46’ Long balls have been catching QTS’s defence out all game. Another opportunity comes begging for Eastporn to finish the game off. 47’ Eastporn may have the opportunity to do just that with a corner. 47’But the ball is headed to the middle of the park and QTS are safe for now. 48’A substitution for QTS. Bennett has re-emerged will he keep his head QTS need him too. Substitution: Bennett on for Kendall, Jones on for Benson.
49’ With a 2-0 cushion it seems that Eastporn are prepared to see this game out. But are they playing into QTS’s hands? Eastporn’s Elliott is dispossessed but to no avail. 50’A loose shot by Gunnill is easily saved by Eastporn Goalkeeper Connor James. With Substitutes available Eastporn are choosing not to use any. Could this benefit QTS? 52’ It would seem not. As Eastporn are as strong as ever. 53’ QTS’s defence has been poor all game. Who is to blame for that the captain or manager? 54’ With time ticking QTS players are willing to try everything. Gunnill creates some space but no-one is with him. Which leads to a loss in possession for QTS. 55’ The careless loss of possession from QTS handed over a clear-cut opportunity for Eastporn to finish off the game. But it stays 2-0. 56’ After the near miss it continues to seem like Eastporn have an extra player on the pitch. Despite not making any changes. 58’With 2 minutes left on the clock and the loser bottom of the league, it’s all becoming to much with both sets of players and managers. With a slide tackle on QTS’s Jones and the player going down it causes temporal chaos of players stampeding the referee. 59’No players were punished due to the referee not seeing the tackle as a bookable offence. 60’ With a freekick given to QTS could they get a goal back and put any pressure on Eastporn? It didn’t with the ball being cleared out for a Goal Kick. 61’ITS EXTRA TIME and After the Goal Kick was taken place Jones gets his own back and fouls Connor James. A free kick in the centre circle given to Eastporn but James is quickly dispossessed. 62’GOAL! 2-1 QTS With every Eastporn player in shock from the dispossession Sperring goes through 4 players easily and slots a goal that ruins Eastporn’s chance of keeping a clean sheet. This is QTS second shot on goal all game. Poor Stat. 63’With seconds left to play the goal will count for nothing. Both teams are full of frustration. The ball is being sent all over the pitch to not one player in particular. It’s gone out for a throw in to Eastporn. 64’The game has ended 2-1 to Eastporn. QTS are now bottom of the league. With a performance as poor as this from QTS it comes as no surprise that Eastporn came out on top.

FIRST HALF TWEETS QTS V EASTPORN FC
1’The game needs to be won’ Player/Manager Kieran Weston of QTS FC is wanting a bright start from his team in the opening minutes. Both teams passing show their hesitant to make a mistake. 2’WHAT A SAVE! ’First chance for Eastporn FC. Giles Patterson finds space outside QTS’s penalty box but QTS’s captain Sam Price is able to block the shot. Let off for QTS. Still 0-0 3’Eastporn has the corner. It’s swung in and its too easy for QTS’s goalkeeper Sam Johnson. He releases the ball to defender Bennett who releases to Gunnill, but his pass is blocked Eastporn player Cameron Holland. The ball is knocked out for a thrown in. 5’ The thrown in leads straight to the arms of QTS’s Goalkeeper. Wasted opportunity for Eastporn. QTS 0-0 Eastporn. 6’The QTS Goal Kick is gifted straight to Eastporn defender Dan Aaron. Aaron’s creates a clever long ball that goes past 3 QTS players to just inside their penalty area. But Eastporn’s striker Patterson misses the ball and QTS can gain possession of the ball. 9’After a battle in the middle of the park both teams do not get far without the other team intercepting the ball. 10’The battle for bottom of the league is super tight. But on chances created thus far Eastporn are coming out on top. 12’ SO CLOSE, another long ball from Eastporn defender Aaron. This time Callum Wood gets on the end of it but his shot is miles high away from goal. one thing is for sure Eastporn’s long balls are threatening. Still 0-0. 13’ QTS’s Goal Kick comes straight out to Harry Gunnill and he passes the ball to Sperring whose shot is blocked. First clear chance for QTS! 14’ The corner is easily dealt with and the dominance in the middle of the park continues. 15’ With key players missing (Geal and Amarteifio) for QTS it seems that the team are coming second best in the battle for dominance. 17’ QTS seem afraid to make a mistake or better yet make a chance without fear. 3 passes have been intercepted easily in midfield. But no final product from Eastporn within the final third. This is a huge relief for QTS. 18’The ball has gone out for a throw in to Eastporn. A nervous ball from QTS captain Sam Price sent the ball out of play. QTS needs to keep their head if they are to win this game. Still 0-0. 20’ FREEKICK against the run of play QTS have their best opportunity of the game so far. The opportunity has come from Patterson taking out Bennett on the edge of Eastporn’s penalty area. Bennett steps up to take the free kick to feet and it’s knocked out for a corner. Best chance of the game for QTS. 21’Poorly taken corner from QTS captain Sam Price and it has given Eastporn the chance to counterattack. With one QTS defender defending against 2 racing Eastporn players the script was already written. 22’ GOAL 1-0 to Eastporn. A simple pass from Sampson to Ryan and Lock is out of the game. One on one Ryan gets the better of Goalkeeper Johnson. A goal before half time is vital in the battle for bottom of the league. 24’ A sense of shock has come over QTS FC. Time to see what this team is made of. A hit and hope from the centre circle from a frustrated Ollie Sperring is all QTS have in their locker. 25’ The Eastporn Goal kick is up in the air and has landed nicely in front of Patterson just in QTS’s half. But before he can take a shot Palmer blocks it with everything he has. It goes out for a throw in in the middle of the field. Still 1-0 to Eastporn. 26’ Another long ball is put into the air after the throw in. But this one is easy to catch for QTS goalkeeper Sam Johnson. what a relief for QTS still 1-0 to Eastporn. 28’ The goal kick gives both teams some breathing space. Out of both teams QTS will look forward to the break. The goal kick is picked up in Eastporn’s box. 29’ The ball is given to Adams who breezes through midfield. But it stopped there by Stannard and the ball is flying up in the air with no sense of direction apart from away from QTS goal. 30’With the ball being brought back down by Gunnill the team look for options to counter. They are met by none. So the ball goes out of play and whistle means that at half time it is 1-0 to Eastporn

QTS 3-3 Below Average FC
Below Average’s Scott Walker equaliser snatches away QTS’s first win of the season Jamie-lee Weston at Eastbourne Sports Centre UCFB Sport
Even a six-goal thriller couldn’t help QTS FC to their first win of the season. With two penalties awarded, a handball not given and enough extra time to make the game feel like a cup final, it is safe to say both teams were disappointed to come away with just a point.
With 10 minutes left QTS were leading 3-1 and it seemed an upset was on the cards. But the game was far from over, with a penalty being awarded to Below Average FC 4 minutes from full time. The score line was now 3-2.
With the pressure on, QTS failed to clear a simple ball from their box which enabled Below Average’s Scott Walker to capitalise in the 62nd minute and even the score to 3 goals each.
But a controversial handball decision in the Below Average penalty box in the 41st minute could have enabled QTS to lead the game 3-1. But due to the referee not having a clear view of the incident the penalty was not given. So, the game stayed at a one goal advantage. This decision proved costly for QTS and their chance of securing their first three points of the season.
Although the team squandered a two goal cushion the Player and Manager of QTS FC Kieran Weston had this to say to his players in his team talk after the game: ‘All played well, all controlled the game… the goals we scored and game play we had today was by far the best we’ve ever done, against the best side we’ve played so far”. This would seem he is proud of his team’s mates/players performance and that the game could get their season on track.
With Below Average FC second in the Parklife League 2019/20 and, QTS FC sitting rock bottom before the game. It would have come as a surprise for both teams that QTS were 2-0 ahead before the break.
In the 22nd minute Ryan Bennett headed his side into the lead. QTS didn’t have wait long for their second as Dan Geal slotted home a penalty in the 28th minute. This was after a Harry Gunnill shot was deliberately hand balled right in front of the referee and left him no option but to give the penalty.
After the break Below Average showed why they are second in the Parklife League with a goal in the 37th minute from Greg Peterson. The two-goal advantage being reduced to one spurred both teams to get the next goal.
But it was QTS FC that answered first to make the score 3-1 when Striker Ollie Sperring shot in the box in the 34th minute. The striker would have been happy to redeem himself after missing a clear-cut chance moments earlier.
(The team celebrate after QTS’s third goal was scored)
In the 56th minute Otis Sinclair tackled Below Average’s Ben Hampshire to gift the team a penalty. Scott Walker put the penalty away with ease. The score was now 3-2. Then with the game deep in extra time Ben Hampshire got his chance to equalise and you bet he took it.
The final result means that QTS FC are now second to bottom in the Parklife League with 1 point. Whereas opponents Below Average are sitting comfortably second 3 behind leaders The Cricket Boys.
