“Jeff was known to be an intelligent boy— his I.Q. was 117. But equally, his perceptions were blunt and his involvement nil. Though he was capable of a greeting and some small talk, his emotional isolation was impregnable. Thus he was slipped into graduation on very poor grades which ought, legitimately, to have failed him.”
— Brian Masters, The Shrine of Jeffrey Dahmer (pg. 58)

Jeffrey Dahmer received average grades early on in his highschool career. He was also briefly a part of the school band playing the trumpet and a tennis player (his father had taught him to play in an attempt to get his son involved with something). His grades began to decline shortly after his alcoholism began at age 14.
Dahmer was regarded as an under achiever and failure in high school. Though very clearly bright, his excessive solitary drinking and depleting mental state heavily impacted his grades and involvement in school. His drinking was known to scare his other classmates due to frequency and the fact that Dahmer was rarely seen sober. His parents hired a tutor for him but to no avail; he was completely uninterested and apathetic toward academics.
A few weeks prior to graduation, a teacher had actually caught Dahmer with a “twelve-pack of beer in a brown paper bag”, three beers having already been thrown down. Upon threatening to report him, he stated that he was having some issues (his parents were going through a less than amicable divorce at the time) and that his counselor was aware. Though viewed as polite and intelligent, he was severely depressed and indifferent.

The Boy In The Box
Unsolved Murder Case

On the day of February 25th 1957, a college student, Frederick Benosis discovered a nude body of a boy who appeared to be 4-6 years old. The body was wrapped in a flannel blanket inside a baby bassinet. However, this wasn’t the first time the boy was discovered a few days prior, a young man had found him while looking for muskrat traps. He did not report this because he knew that muskrat traps were illegal.

Local news was fixated on the case.

Sadly the boy’s identity has never been found. He had blue eyes, light brown hair, his nails looked like they had been neatly trimmed. He had bruises covering most of his body and face. Experts are not sure on how long he could have been there it’s estimated between either 2-3 days or 2-3 weeks, this is due to the cold weather.
Police had hoped that someone had posted about a missing child matching his description, however, no one had reported this boy missing. All leads that authorities had, didn’t lead to anything. Police had traced the bassinet that the boy was in, however, this bassinet did not track the owner.

The boy was buried in a potters field next to Mechanicsville and Dunks Ferry Rd, the tombstone read “Heavenly Father, Bless This Unknown Boy”.
In 1998 the boy was exhumed so they could extract mitochondrial DNA, however, it was too small. He was reburied in November of 1998.
