Long story short, Stefan's a tzimisce koldun, they allied themselves because something huge was happening ingame. He was consumed with hubris and in the end couldn't channel what he needed to stop a big bad thing from happening. So, she gave him a choice: you either step up or I take your power

He didn't step up because his guilts and regrets kept him from reaching his potential, so he let her consume him But

Once she drank his blood, she didn't let him dissapear. Instead of turning into nothing (as part of him wanted), he is now trapped inside her mind

Because she believes she can get him out of his misery and rebirth him somehow

I mean, stranger things happened because of tzimisce blood. Though we will never know because that was the end of that chronicle

I like to imagine that some centuries in the future she will accomplish what she sent out to do. She's that stubborn
