Long rambles and extra pictures below the cut

Maybe I got a bit ambitious with the composition, especially since I was scrounging for time to get this done (we had quite a busy month) which meant I couldn't focus on details as much. But I knew I wanted to make something that felt significant for my boi.

I initially planned to include even more characters; the entirety of Gen 1 and a handful of others, but I knew that would've been too much for me to handle.

So I left on the cutting room floor-

The characters who Cody is on more negative terms with canonically (Duncan, Courtney, Alejandro)

Katie and Sadie (Sorry)

All but three of the post Gen 1 characters.

It's also the one year anniversary of posting my Total Drama art. Not that it's an especially significant thing to note, but it's pretty cool nonetheless.

Here are some alternate renders.

The background is mostly just a mix of background tiles & tones in MediBang, as well as overlays and decorative brushes.

Next are the characters laid out individually and transparently (Sans Justin, Trent, DJ and Lightning as they're egregiously incomplete below the shoulders (At least they have a full head, which is more than can be said of Zeke or Sierra))

Cody & Dawn and LeShawna & Beth were drawn on the same layer, so I can't really separate them.

Geoff, Izzy and Tyler are just very small.

Some characters get cool outfits, some get very light redesigns, a couple look pretty much how they do in the show.

Izzy is dressed as a piñata, because why wouldn't they be?

Harold's look is very loosely based on Beat from JSRF

LeShawna's design is based on a look she has in Dramarama.

I can't draw Gwen the same way twice.

Nobody else has any specific inspirations for their looks.

Now that I think of it, the centre of the drawing is not dissimilar to what I drew last year. Similar compositionally, but different contextually.

Kinda embarrassing to look at my older art now, but that just means I'm super happy with the stylistic evolution. You can tell I've gotten more comfortable with the way I draw TD characters.

Anyway, enough of my rambling.

i do enjoy "living weapon" characters but specifically living weapons who did in fact do absolutely horrific things which at least a part of them enjoyed and thought was good and right at the time, and that no amount of not knowing any better or guilt they feel in hindsight will ever make up for. i love living weapons who are "irredeemable", and no it's not their fault that they were made that way or pointed in the directions they were by the hand that wielded them, and yes they are victims, but so were their victims. living weapons who some people will never be able to forgive, but who still wake up every day and try to do better than what's expected of them. a sword that uses its blade to cut wheat to make bread for the people who once lived in fear of its arc falling on their heads.

im really proud of this page! ive been drawing characters alot lately bc i just love exploring their dynamics 😮 been using a wheel spin to pick 2 characters to draw interacting, this page gave me obvious choices but some other pages have interesting pairings!

Izzy and Noah being nerds ft. a very confused Eva

With Izzy's high IQ and 1000 thoughts zooming through her head at light speed, she 100% strikes me as the type of girl who created a whole language just for fun. It sounds like complete gibberish, so when she's using it everyone just assumes it's Izzy being Izzy.

Noah's the first one who starts picking up on a pattern in her 'gibberish' and asks her about it. Izzy denies it because she thinks it's funnier if she does.

Noah knows she's lying. Izzy knows that Noah knows she's lying. Noah knows that Izzy knows that Noah knows she's lying. This is an endless loop of knowing. The point is, Noah is now convinced to call her out on this lie out of sheer spite.

He starts paying more attention. He starts reading books on linguistics. He has a journal with theories and what he's managed to translate so far.

Eva has to be the one to tell Noah to chill for once. Eva believes him because she believes Izzy would do something like that. He can stop. Noah would love to. But his pride and his intelligence have been insulted. He just can't.

Plus, despite all outward appearances, this is actually pretty fun for him. He doesn't get a lot of intellectual challenges. Izzy's also enjoying feeding him clues and being a little gremlin about this. And hearing him have little mental breakdowns such as 'Is she seriously using that monosyllable as both a prefix and suffix with different meanings?!'

Eventually Noah gets confident enough to respond to her when she says something in Izzy Language. She lights up like a Christmas tree and responds in kind. Next thing either of them knows they're carrying a full blown conversation.

Leaving Eva, who has been been standing there this whole time, to go:

Eventually they explain things to her. Eva doesn't really care to learn it herself but won't stop them from going off so long as they don't use it to leave her out of conversations.

She does pick up a few words though: Their names. Yes. No. Stop.

And every swear word.

Naturally.

i love the idea that noah orchestrated his first elimination because, sure, he's arrogant but he's not stupid, his high IQ of 180, excellent coding skills, his ability to speak multiple languages and his role as the "High IQ" are proof of that.

i have a feeling that he realised by the first challenge, them having to go cliff diving into shark-infested waters, then wheel a long box across a long beach, then open the box with their teeth, build a hot tub from scratch made him come to the conclusion that reality tv just wasn't for him.

so when he had the chance to, he amped up his laziness n snarkiness to 100%, making him seem absolutely insufferable n not a team player which would make the team angry n vote for him.

it also works with his original role as "The Schemer", except he didn't scheme against the other campers, he schemed against chris, as i 100% believe that if chris knew noah wanted off, he wouldn't have let him as it would go against chris' love of torturing teens n whats a better teenager to torture than one who doesn't want to be here.
