Although the invisible creature does lash out at its reflection, the distraction isn’t enough, so the Inspector, Belinay and the security team don’t have the time to fully escape it.
Menaya Flinders rushes back at the entity, expecting that it will attach to her, so she can fling herself into the depths of the mine, taking it with her.

The Inspector rationalises that if the entity behind Areeth always attacks whatever it behind it, that it would attack its own reflection.
So, all they have to do is put up a giant mirror behind the creature.

Knowing that they had been on the planet Noon before,
the Inspector rushes back to confront Areeth about what she experienced, and why everyone in the mining station was dead except her.

The nucleonic radiation from the nearby dying star is the key fact that leads the Inspector to realise that they were on Noon.
Even with the water that had covered Noon, the radiation had contaminated the entire planet and put everyone at risk of cancer from prolonged exposure.
‘I know this planet. I visited it once, half a million years ago.’

Despite squad leader Menaya Flinders’s lack of knowledge, the fact that Planet 6-9-6-9 was covered in so much water reminds the Inspector of some place they’d visited in the distant past,
a place where they’d crossed paths with an evil entity that had toyed with people before they flung themselves to death in the irradiated waters of the planet Noon.

While everyone is busy not seeing things that are actually there,
the Inspector learns something very important.
‘What was it that covered this planet?’
‘Dihydrogen monoxide.’
‘Water?’
‘Yeah, water. The planet used to covered with it, leagues deep.’
‘What was this planet called?’
‘It’s 6-9-6-9.’
‘No, what did they used to call it?’
‘I have no bloody idea! It’s been 6-9-6-9 for as long as anyone can remember!’

It’s strange how Areeth turned in a full circle and nothing happened,
yet she immediately insisted that if anyone were to go behind her, they’d die.

Should it really take the Inspector a full five minutes to scan the terminals with their optic pocketknife in order to figure out what’s blocking the computers from working?
And another five minutes to fix whatever’s wrong with it in order to get the clear video feed of the last recording?

It would be Belinay, as the Inspector’s Associate, who would be the first to spot (or at least believe she’s seen) something odd.
Naturally, everyone (including Areeth) doesn’t notice anything out of the ordinary. Considering that they’ve only just arrived, who would expect them to see anything unusual?

How odd is it that no one seems to know what Earth is.
Both the Inspector and Belinay mention it, and the security team members have never heard of it? Even if Etruro is supposed to be in a federation with Earth in the year 602025?

Rather convenient that the sole survivor of whatever catastrophe happened in the mine
turns out to be blind and nearly mute.

The Inspector, Belinay and the security team land on a barren planet that appears to have been completely strip-mined,
yet there’s an operational mine deep inside the planet, which is what the security team has been sent to check into.

After yet another failed attempt to return to Earth in 2025, the Inspector and Belinay find themselves aboard a ship with what appear to be human beings.
Only to be thrust out into space. How fortunate that they had spacesuits on already.

Light arrives upon the scene and attempts to steal the Inspector’s life energy to turn him into a physical being.
Fortunately, the time that the Inspector and Belinay had spent escaping from Light’s games had caused so much time to elapse that the sun had risen.
Having been bourne of moonlight, Light was not prepared for what would happen to him if sunlight landed upon him. It burnt him to a crisp.

Having jammed the film inside the projector simply by holding on to its edge and breaking it,
the Inspector and Belinay find themselves in the projection room above the auditorium in which Light had captured them, putting them face to face with the projectionist, who’d cooperated with Light. And, they discover the true fate of the audience that had been in the cinema when Light arrived.

It came across as rather an attack on the fans when the Inspector and Belinay find themselves climbing out of a telly in the parlour of a group of fans of their show,
only for the Inspector to have to insist that the fans were the ones who were fictional, not them and Belinay.

The Inspector realises that Light’s use of film to trap them and Belinay
actually gives them both a way out: all they have to do is use all the animation tropes they can think of to break out of the film.
