Tribunal Sacks Dino Melaye As Senator, Orders Fresh Election, Dino reacts.. . . The Kogi State National Assembly and State Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal has sacked Dino Melaye as the Senator representing Kogi West senatorial district. . . This was in a judgement delivered on Friday 23rd,August,2019, by a three-man panel led by Justice Anthony Chijioke. . . The tribunal in a unanimous judgment ordered fresh election in the senatorial district. . . Senator Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was declared a winner in the February 2019 National Assembly election but Senator Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) approached the tribunal and challenged Dino’s victory. . . Dissatisfied by the declaration, Senator Smart Adeyemi, cited irregularities, over voting and non-compliance with the electoral acts as his reasons for challenging the election outcome. . . The tribunal in a unanimous judgment on Friday, therefore, upheld Senator Adeyemi’s ground and ordered for fresh election in the senatorial district. Melaye in a reaction has however vowed to appeal the ruling. He noted that he is confident in the Appeal Court. . . President Buhari on Thursday August 22, revealed that he gave Kano and Kaduna two ministerial slots because of the votes he got from the states in the 2019 Presidential election. . . The President disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Zazzau, Dr Shehu Idris at his palace in Zaria, Kaduna State. . . . “Kaduna and Kano are the only two states I gave two substantive positions in my council. So, I have appreciated your votes and paid you back by giving you ministers of environment and finance”, he said. . . Police arrest two suspects who killed Okada man in Ogun, buried the corpse in shallow grave and sold his motorcycle for N120,000 . . The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the death of a commercial cyclist and theft of his motorcycle. . . Spokesperson of the command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confimed the arrest said the suspects, Lekan Odusote and Monday Molipa, lured the bike man to Ikangba area, Obalende in Ijebu-Ode, where they killed him and took his corpse to an uncompleted building, dug a shallow grave and buried him there. . . They subsequently took his motorcycle to Ijebu-Igbo where they sold it at the rate of N120,000. However, their inability to agree on a sharing formula for the money led to a serious altercation between the suspects and involvement of the Police. . . Upon the information, the DPO Obalende division, CSP Sunday Omonijo swiftly dispatched his detectives to effect the arrest of the two suspects. . . On interrogation, they confessed to luring an Okada man to an isolated area where they killed him and took possession of the motorcycle which they sold, and that the sharing formular of the proceed from the sale of the motorcycle resulted in serious disagreement between them. . . The suspects took policemen to the uncompleted building where the victim was buried, and the corpse has been recovered and taken to mortuary for post mortem examination. FBI announces arrest of large number of Nigerians for fraud . . The US' Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Thursday August 22, notified the general public of a mass arrest which ensued after a breakthrough in its investigation of some fraud cases. . . US attorney, Nick Hanna said in a press conference that the arrested fraud suspects conspired with some federal and state agents to perpetrate the crime. While the FBI's dragnet for 57 other suspects has been extended globally, the 80 arrested suspects (mainly Nigerian citizens) have been charged to court. . . “FBI agents along with federal and state law enforcement authorities arrested a total of 14 defendants in the US, all named in a sweeping fraud and money laundering case. . . “Those arrested today are among 80 defendants charged in a federal grand jury indictment that alleges that millions of dollars were taken from victims through a variety of scams and online frauds. . . “We believe this is one of the largest cases of its kind in US history. BEC scam is used to hack email accounts to convince businesses or individuals to make payments that are either completely bogus or that should have been otherwise paid to legitimate companies. . . “Indictments showed very specific allegations against this suspects many of whom are based in Nigeria in terms of stealing money from victims. The indictment also focuses on those responsible for enabling these fraud schemes including operatives in Los Angeles" he said. . . . Suspected herdsmen kill pregnant woman in Enugu . . An unknown pregnant woman has been killed by suspected herdsmen in Nchatancha Nike in Enugu East Council Area of the State. . . The pregnant woman was killed while returning from the farm on Thursday August 22nd. . . Punch reports that the woman's stomach was ripped opened in an attempt to remove her baby. . . Alleged N537m debt: Court orders AMCON to seize Donald Duke’s property . . A FEDERAL High Court in Lagos has ordered the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) and United Bank for Africa (UBA) to seize a property of former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke over an alleged N537,334,360.77 debt. . . Vacation judge Justice Chuka Obiozor also authorised AMCON and UBA to, in the interim, take possession of funds in the accounts of Duke and others in any bank. . . The judge made the order pursuant to AMCON and UBA’s August 8 ex parte application. . . The applicants listed Stonehedge Investment Limited, Duke and his wife, Owanari Bob-Manuel Duke, as first to third defendants in the suit. . . The applicants had prayed the court for “an order of interim attachment, possession and custody of the property being Number 3, Temple Road, Ikoyi, Lagos”. . . They averred that the property was mortgaged by Duke “as collateral in securing the first respondent’s indebtedness to the applicants”. . . The applicants urged the court to grant them possession of the property “pending the institution and disposal of proceedings for recovery of debt against the respondent, pursuant to Section 49 of the AMCON Act 2010 (as amended)”. . . They also prayed the court for an interim Mareva injunction to take possession of funds in the accounts of Duke and others in any bank “pending the institutional and disposal of proceedings for the recovery of a debt of N537,334,360.77 made up of the principal debt and interest against the respondents pursuant to Section 50 of AMCON Act 2010”. . . The judge granted the prayers, in addition to an order restraining the respondents from “transacting, transferring, changing or howsoever dealing in any manner or interfering with the applicants’ possession” of the Ikoyi property. . . The judge ordered AMCON and UBA to ensure service of substantive originating processes on the respondents within 20 days of the making of the order. . .
